The Pacific Spaceport Complex – Alaska (PSCA), located on Kodiak Island, is a gateway to space for vertical rocket and stratospheric balloon launches. Owned and operated by the Alaska Aerospace Corporation, PSCA boasts a history in space access since its inception in 1998. As the first FAA-licensed spaceport not co-located on a federal range, it represents a significant stride in commercial space endeavors. PSCA’s unique geographical position allows for a wide range of orbital inclinations, making it an important site for a variety of missions. The spaceport has supported numerous launches, primarily for the U.S. government, enhancing the nation’s capabilities in space exploration and satellite technology. Its economic model operates solely on earned revenues since 2015 and without requiring state or federal funds for operations and maintenance. This approach not only benefits Alaska’s economy but also fosters a customer-focused environment. The complex is equipped with multiple launch pads and state-of-the-art control centers, providing a comprehensive range of services for both commercial and military needs. With its expansive launch azimuth range, PSCA can access high-inclination, polar, and sun-synchronous orbits, contributing to its status as one of only four orbital vertical rocket launch sites in the United States. PSCA continues to evolve, adapting to the changing demands of the aerospace industry and maintaining its commitment to providing low-cost, responsive access to space.
