INTODUCING MINDFULNESS

The original concept of mindfulness is based on the Buddhas teaching of
Satipattana which means introspection or awareness about self by placing
attention inside. The practice of original mindfulness aims to purify the mind.
Similar to water, the human mind can become polluted, which is why it is
essential to practice mindfulness in its original form. By doing so, we can
effectively eliminate any contaminating particles and achieve a clear and
peaceful state of mind.

HOW [NORMAL LEADERS] BECOME SUPERNORMAL

ManoLead, after years of research into the original form of mindfulness (better
termed as “introspection”) and centuries-old meditation techniques, has
developed the model “Supernormal Eightfold Process for Introspective Leadership”
to assist individuals to become better leaders who are driven by wholesome
values.

Supernormal Eightfold Process for Introspective Leadership [Hewawasam, 2022]

UNDERSTANDING IS KEY

THE [SCIENCE] BEHIND OUR TECHNIQUES

It is vital to understand that although the “Supernormal Eightfold Process (SN
56.11) for Introspective Leaders” is grounded in authentic teachings from the
Buddha, it does not attempt to summarize or conclude the Buddha’s central
outlook on experience. Instead, the “Supernormal Eightfold Process (SN 56.11)
for Introspective Leaders” adapts selective insights from Bhante Punnaji’s
interpretation of the Buddha’s teachings. These ideas have then been researched
and modified to serve the distinctive role of corporate leaders.

HAVE YOU SEEN YOU?

[Giving up the awareness of existence and taking up the awareness of experience]

Introspective individuals should be aware of what is happening within: what is
happening in the body? What kind of feelings are there? What kind of emotional
reactions are there? And what thoughts are being entertained? Attention should
be focused on those—similar to watching a movie inside. You can experience this
through the exercise of practicing doing things slowly.

COGNITIVE CONSONANCE

THE ID, EGO AND SUPER EGO
[SIGMUND FREUD]

Famous for psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud introduced the concept of ego and id
and their relationship which are in parallel with the relationship between
emotions and intellect found in Buddha’s teachings (on which the original
practice of mindfulness is based).

PHENOMENOLOGY OF EXPERIENCE
[DAVID HUME]

The Scottish philosopher introduced the concept of sensory experience which is
related to the effects of external senses discussed in the original practice of
mindfulness.

STRESS WITHOUT DISTRESS

The relationship between stress and disease is now well established but was not
always recognized. Everyone has it and talks about it, yet few people have taken
the trouble to find what stress really is.

THE ART OF [MINDFUL] LEADER

CONFLICT CAN BE RESOLVED ONLY BY UNDOING THE PERSONALIZATION (ANUPADANA) –
BUDDHA (MN.24)

The cognitive gets subordinated to the affective. The cognitive splits into two
– one taking the side of emotions and the other taking the side of thinking.
Conflicts arise when people tend to personalize either the affective emotions or
the cognitive reasoning, resulting in power resting on the side (cognitive
reasoning or affective emotion) that is being personalized.

A [GROWTH] TECHNIQUE

CONSCIOUS RELAXATION OF TENSION FOR [LEADERS]

Our aim is to raise the leaders’ consciousness to a level beyond a normal leader
– [WE NURTURE]

METTA
[CULTIVATION OF UNIVERSAL BENEVOLENCE]

For a leader, a healthy way of leadership is to maintain a tranquil mind and be
dominated by reason and not by emotion. As explained by both Buddha and Sigmund
Freud, all our emotions are self-centered. Unselfish good behavior is possible
only when the mind is free of selfish emotions. Emotions are disturbances to the
mind and body. When we practice cultivation of universal benevolence, a leader
becomes interested in the welfare of others for their sake. True love and mental
health is the absence of self-centered emotions.

SELECTIVE THINKING FOR [LEADERS]

It is important to understand that the emotion when aroused accompanies tension
and discomfort in the body. Become aware of the tension and relax the tension
consciously instead of releasing the tension in action unconsciously.

THE PRACTICE

DELIVERING THE [PRACTICE OF MINDFULNESS]

WE HELP YOU WITH THE ORIGINAL TECHNIQUES OF PRACTICING MINDFULNESS

We bring our full range of original teaching and talent at the service of each
and every one of you. We want to bring a splash of colour into a seemingly grey
world and become a global leader in practice of mindfulness in the business
world.

ADD PRACTICE OF MINDFULNESS TO YOUR DAILY LIFE

When the cognitive process is able to gain control over the blind but powerful
affective process, the cognitive process experiences freedom from guilt and
remorse, and therefore experience a sense of satisfaction and delight.

HELP YOU TO UNDERSTAND WHO YOU ARE

It is important to understand that normal leaders started with a conflict
between their blind emotions and the reality observed by the rational. The
irrational emotions are playing havoc and the rational cognition is attempting
to gain control over the difficult emotion.

BIBO [BREATHING MEDITATION]

This is not an exercise in concentration but one of relaxation of body and
calming the mind. When the body is relaxed and the mind is calm down, attention
automatically goes to the breathing. We watch the breathing to find out the
extent to which we are agitated or calm. By relaxing the breathing, we relax the
whole body and we calm the mind.

OUR Path

MINDFULNESS IS THE [SEVENTH STEP] OF THE
EIGHT STEP PROCESS

Our practice of mindfulness is a progressive ascending of a flight of steps in
the Supernormal Eight-fold Way known as The Noble Eightfold Path (ariya
attangika magga). Aligning with Bhante Punnaji’s teaching, ManoLead uses the
word Supernormal instead of the common term “Normal” because of the term
‘Ariya,” used by the Buddha, means something above the normal. Our services and
people set us apart. Everything we do to transform leaders are meticulously
planned down to the finest details.

WHAT OUR [LEADERS] SAY

(P14)

GLOBAL LEADER

I learned that it is not cliché to take time for meditating as a way of setting
the table for the day ahead of me. The degree of focus I have experienced is
game-changing...

(P12)

GLOBAL LEADER

Once mindfulness has been practiced and the mind has developed its ability to
relax in the present moment, it is no longer a courtesy. It is the normal
function of your mind

(P10)

GLOBAL LEADER

I have gained a new and deeper relationship with impermanence and the idea that
everything is changing, nothing stays the same, and therefore, there is no need
for me to be angry, greedy, envious, or overly attached to my ambitions and
things....

(P21)

GLOBAL LEADER

I find myself now many, many times throughout the day, pausing, centering
myself, getting my mind clear, sometimes in the middle of a conversation with
people

(P20)

GLOBAL LEADER

Because of my past education and exploration into Buddhism, I cannot say that I
gained new insight. It did, however, encourage me to find ways to establish a
regular meditation practice ...

OUR [PURPOSE] REDUCE YOUR STRESS

Unhappiness is mainly attributed to destructive thinking patterns as we let
thoughts dominate our experiences. Once thinking patterns are improved,
self-centered emotions disappear and happiness increases. “What is insecure or
stressful is not as I wish, thus not under my power What is not under my power
is not mine, me, or myself – impersonal. Seeing the self and the world in this
impersonal way is a great relief”
