OUR STRENGTHS UTAH IS AN IDEAL HOST FOR A FUTURE OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC GAMES * * * UNIFIED SUPPORT & UNMATCHED PASSION Utah loves the Games with recent polls showing 82% of residents favor hosting a future Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. That passion and support extends to political unity with support across state and local representatives. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY & CLOSE PROXIMITY Our Games would not require any state or local taxpayer funding. Our 2002 legacy is lasting with 100% of existing venues vibrant and ready to host again. All our proposed venues are within a one-hour drive of Salt Lake City – great for fans to see multiple events in one day and reducing athlete travel time. EXPANDED INFRASTRUCTURE & UNRIVALED EXPERIENCE A new airport and expanded public transportation enhance the Games experience for visitors. An experienced 2002 team with a wealth of knowledge is in place to plan a future Games. Utah’s volunteer base is the best in the world and is ready to welcome the international community. A LASTING LEGACY BUILT FOR THE FUTURE Salt Lake 2002 created "Living Legacy" and "State of Sport" initiatives that continue to thrive today in Utah. Over 20 years later, the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation has inspired generations of Utahns to try winter sport and lead active, healthy lifestyles, and the Utah Sports Commission has attracted thousands of world-class competitions year-round. INTEGRAL ATHLETE INVOLVEMENT Olympic and Paralympic athletes play an integral role in the Salt Lake City-Utah leadership, with four-time Olympian Catherine Raney Norman as Board Chair. Olympic and Paralympic champions including Lindsey Vonn, Ted Ligety, Bill Demong, Apolo Ohno and Chris Waddell serve on the board ensuring athlete voices are central to the Games plan. The athlete-centered planning process is based on thousands of hours of experience on the slopes and ice. Utah has the community of former and current Olympians and Paralympians to shape a total approach featuring mental health resources, advanced training and recovery strategies, and optimized athlete transportation.
