Fact: Netflix's La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) is full of so many twists and
turns that it's quite likely you'll get hooked after the first episode. The
streaming record smashing Spanish language series is about a group of charming
thieves, and the fifth and final season premieres on September 3—before a South
Korean remake comes to Netflix.

If you're looking for an equally captivating watch to tide you ever before Money
Heist takes its last bow, Netflix and other streaming services are home to a
trove of international content, including French shows, Korean shows, Spanish
shows, and...Emily in Paris. Below, we've pieced together a list of programs
that are stacked with storylines similar to La Casa de Papel's, including the
popular Lupin and crime shows like Heist. Expect complicated plots and lots of
criminal activity.

HEIST

Courtesy of NETFLIX

The title of this true crime documentary series on Netflix says it all: It's
about heists. But unlike Money Heist, the three escapades depicted in this show
are all completely real. Each crime unspools over the course of two episodes.
One segment follows the story of Heather Tallchief, who stole $3 million from
Vegas casinos alongside her boyfriend—and actually got away with it. Until she
turned herself in, that is.

SKY ROJO

TAMARA ARRANZ

When you're craving another clever, high-octane watch, your best bet is to head
towards another show created by Money Heist's Álex Pina. Sky Rojo is about three
sex workers on the run from the men who put them in danger and controlled their
lives. Their destination is unknown—but hopefully, they'll find the freedom and
financial independence they crave.

WHITE LINES

Chris Harris

Another Álex Pina creation, White Lines showcases a different part of Spain than
Money Heist. Instead of the grand institutions of Madrid, White Lines is set
amid the gorgeous beaches and packed clubs of Ibiza, a Balearic island. The show
alternates between the '90s and the present-day, when Zoe Walker (Laura Haddock)
returns to the site of her brother's disappearance, and tries to find out what
happened. Like all shows by Pina, the mystery element of this show is fueled by
a real sense of character.

KILLING EVE

BBC

Like the Professor's crew in La Casa de Papel, Killing Eve's main characters
can't be reduced to "good" and "bad," even if they seem like they can at first.
Created by Phoebe Waller Bridge, Killing Eve is about the cat-and-mouse game
that unfolds between an assassin, Villanelle (Jodie Comer), and Eve Polastri
(Sandra Oh), the agent on her trail. Their relationship becomes symbiotic as
each finds meaning and emotional fulfillment in the hunt.

SHERLOCK

BBC

If there's a show that can rival La Casa de Papel in terms of intricate plots,
it's surely Sherlock. Like the Professor, Sherlock—played here by Benedict
Cumberbatch—is a mastermind. Instead of crafting schemes, though, he can solve
other people's through feats of deductive reasoning. Each episode features a
delightfully intricate mystery, which could only be solved by Mr. Holmes (with
the help of John Watson, of course).

ORPHAN BLACK

BBC

Tatiana Maslany plays at least half of the cast in this thrilling sci-fi series
about a woman who discovers she's actually one of many clones. Like La Casa de
Papel, the show's focal point are the bonds of people in extraordinary
circumstances. But the over-the-top plot lines regarding scientific conspiracies
are fun, too. By the end of the show's five seasons, you'll be able to name all
the clones, guaranteed.

WHO KILLED SARA?

NETFLIX

This Mexican thriller starts with an obvious question: Who killed Sara? The
answer is anything but clear-cut. Alex (Manolo Cardono) is framed for his
sister, Sara's, murder. After getting out of prison, he seeks answers about what
happened during the fateful boat ride in which he lost her. Two seasons in, and
the mysteries are hardly solved.

VIS A VIS

Netflix

Vis a Vis—a Spanish drama set in a women's prison, a la Orange Is the New
Black—is a natural follow-up after watching La Casa de Papel. For one, it's from
the same creator, Alex Pina, and stars familiar faces, like Alba Flores
(Nairobi) and Najwa Nimri (Alicia). The show empathetically tells stories about
women in their lives' most difficult chapter. But yes, there are multiple prison
escapes involved. After all, it's made by the creator of Money Heist—what else
did you expect?

LUPIN

Emmanuel Guimier

Similar to La Casa de Papel, this French heist series on Netflix is an
international hit. Assane Diop (Omar Sy) is a skilled and charming thief who
learned the art of the steal from Maurice LeBlanc's Arsene Lupin, Gentleman
Thief novels. He's been working for himself until this moment. But now he has a
chance to use his skills to enact revenge on the family responsible for his
father's death. Like La Casa de Papel, the show features heists, but is held up
by deep relationships. Plus, Netflix has other French shows where Lupin came
from.

EL SEÑOR DE LOS CIELOS

Telemundo

In English, the show's title translates to "The Lord of the Skies" and it is a
series based on the life of Amado Carrillo Fuentes, the former leader of the
Juarez Cartel in Mexico (and Narcos: Mexico character). The award-winning show
is a bit more dramatic than Money Heist since it is a telenovela, but if you're
looking for similar levels of action—give this a try.

BREAKING BAD

AMC

In Money Heist, the Professor keeps his real identity hidden as long as he can
just like Bryan Cranston's Walter White in AMC's Breaking Bad. The series is
about a high school chemistry teacher, Walter, who after getting diagnosed with
inoperable lung cancer turns to cooking and selling meth with the help of Aaron
Paul's Jessie Pinkman in an effort to secure his family's financial future.

OZARK

Ozark is a show molded in the vein of Breaking Bad: A man who lives a previously
ordinary life gets pulled into a criminal underworld only to find he's not too
bad at navigating it. Instead of being a teacher like Breaking Bad's Walter
White, Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) is an accountant who occasionally does the
books for a Mexican drug lord. When things with this high-stakes client go
haywire, Marty is forced to move to his family to the Missouri Ozarks and
launder money for the cartel. His wife, Wendy (Laura Linney) rises to becomes
his partner-in-crime (literally). As the show goes on, the comparisons to
Breaking Bad wear out–and Ozark stands alone as its own twisty crime drama.

BODYGUARD

Netflix

Starring Game of Thrones's Richard Mardsen, Bodyguard is a political thriller
about David Budd, a bodyguard who is tasked with protecting British home
secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes). In the beginning, the six-part series
appears to be about Budd and Montague's relationship, but the themes of
terrorism and corruption among the secret service and police eventually begin to
unfold.

NARCOS

Juan Pablo Gutierrez/Netflix

Although Money Heist isn't based on a true story, Netflix's other original
series Narcos is. The raw, gritty show chronicles the real-life story of how
Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar rose to power before his ultimate demise.
Season 3 moves on to tell the story of the real power players: the Cali Cartel.
The series is in English and Spanish, so if you're accustomed to using
subtitles, then you'll be fine.

PRISON BREAK

FOX

A main storyline in Money Heist is the relationship between The Professor and
Inspector Raquel Murillo. The two have this cat and mouse game that becomes very
personal. That chase is very apparent between Inspector Mahone (William
Fichtner) and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) in Prison Break. The show
tells the story of Lincoln "Linc" Burrows (Dominic Purcell), an innocent man
sent to death row while his brother, Miller's character, tries to rescue him by
getting himself sent to the same prison.
