RETURNING TO THE EARTH & BECOMING AN ANCESTOR

Tuesdays in October & November

Whether we wish to be returned to the belly of the earth or released by fire,
our reflections on life and death and our preparations for the journey onward
matter.

In this eight-week series, we’ll seek more intimacy with death while imagining
our most beautiful return to the earth and to the greater mystery.

Death can be an ally; mortality a compass.

SHRINE TO WATER SOULS

One of the few in the country, this shrine is consecrated and dedicated for
those who don’t fully incarnate. Whether a pregnancy ends by circumstance or
choice, this a place for remembrance and ritual for people of all gender
identities, races, ethnicities and faiths to honor this passage. The Shrine is
located near the Ancestral Grove.

DIVINATION

As dedicated students and practitioners of the art of divination–an art which
has shaped the genesis and development of Heartward Sanctuary from the start–we
are currently offering several kinds of readings to members of the public. Each
is a unique expression of this age-old, uniquely human practice. Readings take
place in person or virtually.

are currently offering several kinds of readings to members of the public. Each
is a unique expression of this age-old, uniquely human practice. Readings take
place in person or virtually.

SACRED DANCE

All are welcome at our ecstatic dance-inspired Temple Dances, held most Sundays
at noon in the barn temple. Our dance community began its journey over 13 years
with the Flow-Jo. Since that time, we have cultivated a rich depth of practice
and multi-generational community. All are welcome regardless of experience or
ability to move and dance.



JULIA HARTSELL

Julia is Co-founder, Director and Liturgist at Heartward Sanctuary and tends
several shrines and gravesites there. With an animist worldview, her work is
focused on reclaiming relational ways of living and ancient forms of medicine in
service of personal, ancestral and cultural healing.

JONATHAN EDWARDS

Jonathan is a writer, herbalist and NC state-licensed acupuncturist with over a
decade’s experience in Asian medicine and related healing arts. As the
co-founder of Heartward Sanctuary, Jonathan is Heartward Sanctuary’s resident
gardener, apothecary, and incense artisan.
