DYNAMIC MATRIX

Dynamic Matrix is a powerful way to organize brainstormed ideas so you can
derive meaning and insights, plan your work visually, and take action more
quickly. You can gather a variety of shapes, sticky notes, and Lucidspark Cards
into a Dynamic Matrix and organize them as desired. Read on to learn more.




CREATE A DYNAMIC MATRIX


CREATE FROM SCRATCH

To add a Dynamic Matrix to the canvas, follow these steps:

 1. Click the Shapes icon from the Primary Toolbar.
    
 2. At the bottom left corner of the pop out menu, click  the Dynamic Matrix
    icon.  

An empty Dynamic Matrix will then be added to the canvas. You can then drag
shapes from the canvas into the matrix.

If you click on the matrix, the Context Toolbar will appear, which can be used
to format your Dynamic Matrix and pivot it on multiple axes to sort and view
your content.


CREATE FROM SELECTED SHAPES

To add a Dynamic Matrix that includes shapes selected on your canvas, follow
these steps:

 1. Select the shapes, sticky notes, and Cards on your canvas that you would
    like added to the Dynamic Matrix.
 2. From the Context Panel, select the Container options icon.
    
 3. From the options, select the Dynamic Matrix icon.  

A Dynamic Matrix will then be added to the canvas. The selected shapes, sticky
notes, and Cards will be moved into the Dynamic Matrix. You can also drag shapes
from the canvas into the matrix, after you have created it.

If you click on the matrix, the Context Toolbar will appear, which can be used
to format your Dynamic Matrix and pivot it on multiple axes to sort and view
your content.


FORMAT A DYNAMIC MATRIX

Click on a Dynamic Matrix to see the Context Toolbar appear above it.




Select:

 *  the set row icon to select the row filter from the dropdown options.
 *  the set column icon to select the column filter from the dropdown options.

From this interactive table you can also click and drag to move shapes around
within the Dynamic Matrix, or to add additional shapes from the canvas into the
matrix. Shapes may automatically adopt attributes of the row/column they are
placed in.

Note: If you are unable to move a shape into a different row/column, it is
likely because you do not have access to edit those properties. See the FAQ
section for more details.


FAQ

Can I change shape properties?

Some shape properties like fill color or tags are general and can be changed by
anyone with edit access on a Lucidspark board. 

However, other properties like emojis or votes are tied to a specific individual
on a Lucidspark board. For instance, emoji reactions cannot be edited by anyone
except the person who placed them. 

Can I move shapes within the Dynamic Matrix to another cell?

Yes. If the column or row uses general shape properties, you can drag shapes
into that column/row and they will adopt those attributes.

Why am I receiving an error when I try dragging a shape into another cell?

There are a few reasons you may be running into this issue. 

First, if shape properties that are tied to a specific individual are used (like
emojis and votes), these cannot be changed by moving shapes between cells in a
Dynamic Matrix. If you would like to change an emoji reaction or vote that you
have added to a shape within the matrix, you should add or remove them on the
shape itself, like you would if the shape were outside the matrix.

Second, while the Dynamic Matrix works with all shape types in Lucidspark, not
all shapes have the same fields or properties. For example, a sticky note shape
has far fewer possible fields than a Lucidspark Card. For this reason, there are
times where dragging one type of shape into a cell with properties from a
different shape type will not work.
