ENJOY COMPLETE AGILITY IN EVERY ASPECT OF
YOUR ADC DEPLOYMENT, WHILE CUTTING COSTS
with Alteon Global Elastic License
Alteon Global Elastic License provides a radically new ADC purchasing model
which not only
cut costs but also eliminates planning risks, ensures complete agility in
deploying ADC services
wherever and whenever you need them, with any number of ADC instances you need,
limited
only by the total ADC capacity you purchased for your entire organization
With the growing use of ADC services in front of applications, security devices
and services;
planning, sizing, licensing and managing the right number of ADC devices and
their respective
capacity licenses becomes a challenge, which has big cost implications. Moving
ADC
instances from one environment to another such as in a transition to the cloud,
which require
ADC capacity to transition with them, also implies additional spend for new
cloud ADC licenses
(instead of saving costs).
THE CHALLENGE
Planning your needs around ADC needs and its corresponding infrastructure, while
looking 3-5 years ahead
can be extremely challenging. On one hand, inadequate ADC capacity with low SSL
processing power, may
result in bottlenecks in the applications’ infrastructure or hurt the agility of
the organization. Down the line, if the
ADC appliance reaches its limit it will probably require a forklift upgrade,
losing the investment on the previous
appliance purchased.
On the other hand, overprovisioning means spending on ADC capacity that isn’t
planned to actually be used, at
least not right away. However, to avoid forklift upgrades, and to ensure the ADC
device purchased will not become
a bottleneck, the majority of organization today buy ADC capacity that is more
than twice the ADC capacity they
actually need.
Even when the ADC appliances are properly sized and appropriately licensed, new
market trends will ultimately
require shifts of this capacity from one environment to another. One such
example is when applications transition
to the cloud. In this case, the ADC service that ran on an appliance in the
datacenter is no longer needed there,
and is now required in the cloud. However, one can’t move that ADC capacity to
the cloud – it is only licensed
to be used in the appliance on which it was purchased. So, additional ADC
capacity must be purchased for the
cloud deployment.
The above challenges are a result of the evolution of the growing use of ADCs
across various environments and
form factors - physical, virtual and cloud appliances. When coupled with the
traditional way of ADC purchasing,
which forces organizations to buy ADC instances associated with specific
capacity, which is the main reason
why planning is so complicated, and over-provisioning is a must, the result is
overspending on ADC capacity
organizations probably won’t use.

THE SOLUTION
Radware’s Alteon Global Elastic License is a new purchasing model which allows
organizations to purchase the
exact ADC capacity they need for the entire organization, while providing
complete flexibility on how to distribute
it across applications, different datacenters, and cloud environments.
As an example, an organization that requires a total ADC capacity of 40Gbps,
would only need to purchase a
single Alteon Global Elastic License with that capacity. This license enables
spinning up as many virtual ADCs as
needed as long as total combined throughput of all instances does not exceed 40
Gbps.
The Alteon Global Elastic License supports mix and match of virtual ADCs on all
Alteon form factors:
ÐÐ a virtual appliance running on a general-purpose server
ÐÐ a virtual appliance running in the cloud (such as on AWS or Azure)
ÐÐ a virtual ADC instance running on a dedicated Alteon D-line appliance
Each virtual ADC, in any of its form factor can be spun-up with any combination
of the Alteon D-line advanced
ADC service such as Global Server Load Balancing, Application Performance
Monitoring, FastView Web
Acceleration, Web Application Firewall, SSL Inspection and much more.
DESIGNED FOR AUTOMATION
Alteon Global Elastic License was designed from the ground up for automation.
Radware’s vDirect server, the on-
premise component that is responsible for spinning up new virtual ADCs,
distributing and validating their licenses,
also enables high degree of automation:
ÐÐ vDirect enables advanced scripting, to not only spin up new virtual ADCs, but
also provisioning high
availability setups, distributing their configuration, as well as validating
that the service is active
ÐÐ vDirect can also integrate out of the box with most leading orchestration
systems such as Ansible,
OpenStack, Cisco’s ACI, VMware vRealize, and others
ÐÐ vDirect enables moving vADC workloads seamlessly across form factors and
environments, eliminating
manual resource allocations and manual reconfigurations. It also enables moving
application delivery services
from the private datacenter to the cloud at a click of a button, while
leveraging the same Alteon Global Elastic
License pool
