The brutal and savage Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip for the past 10 months represents a “real and serious test” for all of humanity, stressed the leader of the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement, Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi. In a speech on Thursday, Sayyed al-Houthi considered that silence regarding the crime of genocide in Gaza means that human societies are wasting existence, human dignity, and the right to life. He emphasized that what the Israeli occupation is committing is a violation of everything, based on a false and offensive view of human societies. Sayyed al-Houthi underlined that the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza should awaken the human conscience and the individuals’ sense of responsibility. The Yemeni leader pointed out that solidarity movements with the Palestinian people in the United States, Europe, and elsewhere were driven by human conscience. He considered that student movements and protests condemning what is happening in Gaza are part of singling out those who still possess and adhere to human conscience. According to Sayyed al-Houthi, the tragedy of the Palestinian people has had a significant impact on raising awareness and getting rid of all the covers that the Israeli occupation had plagued the peoples with, especially in the United States and Europe. The leader of the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement added that the injustice in Palestine and the Israeli crimes have had a resonating impact in raising awareness within societies “where the doctrine of glorifying Zionism has been deeply rooted for centuries.” He lamented as “dangerous” the fact that there are some sides who underestimate what is happening in Palestine, collaborate with the enemy, and play a destabilizing role to weaken and subjugate the nation. Meanwhile, Sayyed al-Houthi said the United States and other supporters of the Israeli occupation are betting on the weariness and silence of the peoples, affirming that despite this, pro-Palestine protests in the West continue. He pointed out that the Americans have labeled pro-Palestine protests a war crime for which individuals are held accountable, tried, and punished. ‘ISRAEL’ KILLS WITH AMERICAN TOOLS The Yemeni leader said that displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are targeted with large American smart bombs usually used in confrontations with major armies, highlighting that the Israeli occupation forces are targeting the displaced in areas they claim are “safe”, always leading them into a trap. He also noted that for over two months, the enemy has continued to close the Rafah crossing to Egypt, preventing the arrival of any food or medical supplies, while stockpiles of food are on the floating American dock, leaving the Palestinian people to starve to death. RESISTANCE AND TRIBES Touching on the Resistance in the Gaza Strip, Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi said that despite their simple means and suffering and amid widespread Arab negligence, Palestinian Resistance fighters are enduring the current situation and rebuilding their capabilities. He added that the fighters and the community in Gaza remain steadfast and resilient, actively resisting the enemy on all fronts. The Yemeni leader noted that the past week was marked by the intensity and quality of operations carried out by the al-Qassam Brigades, the al-Quds Brigades, and various other Palestinian Resistance factions. He indicated that, despite the magnitude of aggression and siege, the factions are drawing lessons from past experiences to improve their performance. He highlighted that one of the strong surprises was carrying out 14 operations in the first hours of the invasion of western Gaza by a unit of the al-Qassam Brigades, which the Israeli occupation military had previously claimed it dismantled. According to Sayyed al-Houthi, the unit rebuilt itself and resumed its operational activity with high effectiveness, skill, and impressive tactics. Al-Houthi compared the suffering and resilience of the Palestinian people and their fighters with the reality in “Israel”, clarifying that comparing the two makes the consequences and outcomes of the intense battle clear. He said that, despite the oppression faced by the people of Gaza, they have maintained their steadfastness and exhibited utmost patience and continue to carry the banner of jihad, while, the Israeli occupation military is facing a serious recruitment problem, dealing with demoralization, frustration, and reverse migration. Sayyed al-Houthi also saluted all Palestinian tribes for their steadfast and insightful stance, which reflects awareness, foresight, and resilience in rejecting all Israeli schemes. He stressed that the Israeli occupation has failed to blackmail the Palestinian tribes and exploit the famine in Gaza to force a non-governmental administration to the Strip. SUPPORTING FRONTS ARE OF HIGH IMPORTANCE Regarding the support fronts for the Palestinian Resistance, Sayyed al-Houthi emphasized that there has never been such military support from Arab countries for the Palestinian people and their fighters as there is now on the support fronts. He stressed that the support fronts in Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq are of high importance and have imposed a new equation in this stage of the battle against the enemy. Despite this, he noted that the Palestinian people’s inalienable front remains at the heart of the battle. He confirmed that all the support fronts are in full coordination with the Palestinian brethren and strive for further escalation against the enemy. Sayyed al-Houthi stressed that the steadfastness, effectiveness, and sacrifices of the support fronts are evident despite skepticism amid the ongoing media campaign supporting the enemy. He pointed out that the support fronts have faced and continue to face various pressures aimed at stopping them and isolating the Palestinian people. Regarding the Lebanese support front, al-Houthi pointed out that one of Hezbollah’s notable operations this week was targeting the Israeli reconnaissance center on Mount Haramoun for the first time since the 1973 October War, affirming that the Lebanese group’s operations have significantly disrupted Israeli industrial production, especially in northern occupied Palestine. RELATED NEWS * Sayyed al-Houthi: US failed in facing Yemen at sea, escalation ongoing * Sayyed al-Houthi: Exposed spy network reveals US breach of sovereignty The Yemeni leader explained that Hezbollah’s front destroyed enemy positions in northern occupied Palestine and displaced tens of thousands of Israelis from settlements. He reiterated that Hezbollah’s front is active, effective, and strong, adding that the Lebanese Resistance group has offered martyrs on this path, including great and virtuous leaders. On the Iraqi front, Sayyed al-Houthi said the Islamic Resistance in Iraq carried out three operations against vital and sensitive Israeli targets this week. He pointed out that one of the impacts of the joint operations between the Islamic Resistance in Iraq and the Yemeni Armed Forces was the announcement by the European Animal Organization that a ship carrying livestock to occupied Haifa was attacked by drones in the Mediterranean Sea, describing this announcement as a significant development. The Ansar Allah leader emphasized that the impact of these joint operations will grow stronger and larger, becoming a major factor of pressure in the Mediterranean Sea. He noted that the extent of this impact is evident in statements from international and official entities. In this context, Sayyed al-Houthi mentioned that the UN-affiliated ReliefWeb website reported that the joint Yemeni-Iraqi operations have already affected shipping movements in the eastern Mediterranean. SUPPORT FRONTS STAND FIRM WITHOUT INTERFERING IN NEGOTIATIONS Regarding the negotiations, Sayyed al-Houthi stated that support fronts continue to steadfastly back the Palestinian Resistance without interfering in the details of the negotiations, affirming that “the decision in the negotiations belongs to the Palestinian people and their Resistance, led by Hamas.” He further emphasized that the position of all support fronts is aligned in every sense with the Palestinian people and that of their Resistance. On the other hand, Sayyed al-Houthi noted that the US, as well as Western countries in general, are very disturbed by the important new equation imposed by these support fronts. A LOSING BATTLE FOR ‘ISRAEL’, US AGAINST YEMEN The Yemeni leader recalled the operations on the Yemeni Armed Forces, saying that the most important one this week was targeting an American ship northeast of Socotra Island. He stressed that the “Hatem” hypersonic missiles terrified the American aircraft carrier and Western destroyers in the sea. Sayyed al-Houthi reiterated that the United States wants Yemen to stop supporting Gaza and allow Israeli ships to pass through the Red Sea, stressing that any repercussions or steps will not divert the Yemenis from prioritizing support for the Palestinian people. He affirmed that “against every traitor’s will,” Yemen shall remain steadfast in its position and shall continue its operations with ballistic and cruise missiles, drones, and the Toophan unmanned surface vehicle (USV), as long as the Israeli aggression persists. Regarding the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, Sayyed al-Houthi mentioned that some Americans likened its withdrawal from the Red Sea to “an elephant running away from a mouse,” describing it as “an unprecedented event in the history of wars” that wrote new history. He cited the Americans as saying that the Eisenhower aircraft carrier was prepared to fight major powers but ended up in a losing battle against a guerrilla warfare group with no naval power. On another note, he said that Britain has announced the withdrawal of its last warships from the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden after facing the greatest aerial threat to the Royal Navy. The Ansar Allah leader highlighted that the Israelis speak with astonishment and fear about the Yemeni Armed Forces’ massive and lethal military capabilities that surpass all the technologies possessed by the enemies. He recalled an INSS study, which confirmed that Yemen possesses weapons capable of executing lethal attacks. In a related context, Sayyed al-Houthi pointed out that the chemical and oil products tanker Valor turned off its automatic identification system while in the waters around occupied Haifa to conceal its route, in fear of being targeted by the Yemeni Armed Forces. Touching on the repetitive American-British aggression on Yemen, the Ansar Allah leader mentioned that there have been 570 attacks, including airstrikes and naval bombardments, killing 57 and injuring 87. He vowed that the American-British aggression “will never affect the Yemenis’ principled stance,’ revealing that the number of mobilization forces has reached 372,174 trained fighters ready for combat. SALUTATIONS TO THE FREE PEOPLE IN THE FACE OF ARAB BETRAYAL Under that headline, Sayyed al-Houthi specifically mentioned Bahrain, explaining that “in Bahrain, there are protests and calls for sit-ins under the title of boycott as a support front per se and a model of loyalty and steadfastness in supporting Palestine.” He saluted the Bahraini people who have washed their hands of the “traitor position of the Al Khalifa regime,” considering this an important lesson for other peoples who fail to jump on the bandwagon of the boycott, especially since the process of boycotting the US and Israeli goods is very important and within the power of all people in all countries. Sayyed al-Houthi also wished that people in many Arab countries would mobilize like the Moroccan people are doing and derive lessons. Furthermore, Sayyed al-Houthi saluted the Moroccan people who refused to follow in the footsteps of “their traitorous regime, which is loyal to Israel and has normalized relations with it.” He added that the Moroccan people have demonstrated their loyalty, authenticity, humanity, values, and ethics by widely taking to the streets in many cities to support the people of Palestine, unlike “the Moroccan regime [that] seeks to domesticate the Moroccan people and divert their loyalty and position, but there is awareness and vigilance [among the people].” Sayyed al-Houthi spoke about the negative role of some Arab regimes, stressing that this role reflects a past position that prevailed before this battle, namely through their normalization [with the Israeli enemy], which the Yemeni leader explained led to “allegiance and alliance with the Israeli enemy.” He noted that some Arab regimes have entered into a partnership with the Israeli occupation aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause, pointing out that some regimes even have a clear pro-“Israel” stance with their media outlets directed against the Palestinian people and the Resistance movements. That is why, according to al-Houthi, the peoples of some “Arab regimes” do not dare to openly support the Palestinian people. SAUDI ESCALATION WILL FALTER IN THE FACE OF OUR STEADFASTNESS Regarding the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the leader of the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement emphasized that regardless of the Saudi escalation and its consequences, “it will never affect our firm stance in supporting the Palestinian people.” Sayyed al-Houthi then assured the Resistance in Gaza, the people of Palestine, and all the free people of the nation and the world that “Saudi Arabia will never succeed no matter what it does.” He also emphasized that the declarations, statements, and stances of Saudi Arabia and some Gulf countries echo the Israeli, American, and British logic, pointing out that “the Saudis converge with the Americans in terms of halting the support operations,” describing this state of affairs as “sheer stupidity”. He pointed out that the US sought, after realizing the futility of its operations, to implicate the Saudis to carry out unprecedented aggression and escalation against Yemen through the economic sector. Sayyed al-Houthi clarified that Saudi Arabia’s decision to block flights from Sanaa airport is completely unacceptable. He also criticized the British and American incitation against the port and slammed the Saudi actions targeting banks, private financial institutions, and companies as unjust and aggressive measures that should not be tolerated. Sayyed al-Houthi addressed Saudi Arabia, emphasizing that “your aggressive actions are in line with American directives aimed at benefiting Israel, and all attempts to compel us to withdraw our support for Gaza are futile.” He continued, “Our warning to Saudi Arabia at the start of the new Hijri year is serious in every sense of the word.” In conclusion, Sayyed al-Houthi addressed the Yemeni people, saying that “the Saudis want you to watch the suffering of the Palestinian people and dance like them and ignore the cries and pain of the Palestinian people,” adding that “the enemies want you to retreat from your stance in support of Gaza, to fail the Palestinian people, and to stop supporting operations.” RELATED VIDEO The American wants to remain in Syria and is manipulating the negotiations in the hope of disrupting the new Turkish position What is less and more || Hoopoe 2 for Hezbollah || Ali bin Masoud Al-Maashani RELATED STORIES * Riyadh for Sanaa: Sayyed Al-Houthi’s equation against Saudi aggression * US presidential candidates competing to appease ‘Israel’: Al-Houthi * Sayyed al-Houthi warns US: Our missiles can’t be evaded or prevented * Israeli-Palestinian mediated talks led to no results: PIJ Deputy-Chief * Israeli soldier killed as Hezbollah targets IOF sites, buildings * Palestinian Resistance inflicts heavy losses on IOF, vehicles in Gaza * Kamamji in dire condition, isolated: Detainees Affairs Commission * Israeli settlers leaving sees 150% increase since October 7 amid fears * US imposes sanctions on Israeli ‘extremists’ over West Bank violence * Russia, Iran ties to develop as they did under Raisi admin.: Putin * Zelensky urges NATO leaders to lift all limits on striking Russia * Iran’s support for Resistance strategic, firm: IRGC’s Qaani * At least 60 bodies found under rubble after IOF withdrew from Shujaiya WAR ON GAZA SHARE THIS: * Share * * Facebook * Twitter * Email * Like Loading... Since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza, 46,000 Israeli businesses have closed, according to the Israeli Coface Bdi company. The company, specializing in business information for credit risk management, has been analyzing and ranking businesses and companies in the Israeli economy for approximately 35 years. According to Maariv, Yoel Amir, the CEO of Coface Bdi, explained to Maariv on Wednesday that the number is considered a high number encompassing many sectors, with about 77% of the businesses closed since the beginning of the war, around 35,000, being small businesses with up to five employees. WHICH INDUSTRIES ARE AT THE HIGHEST RISK LEVEL? Israeli media reported, citing Coface Bdi’s risk rating, which is widely utilized by many companies in the Israeli economy, including the banking system and international credit insurance companies, that the most vulnerable industries are the construction industry and its surrounding ecosystem. This includes sectors such as ceramics, air conditioning, aluminum, and building materials, which have been significantly impacted. Additionally, the tourism industry faces nearly no foreign tourism, exacerbated by “declining national morale and tourist areas now resembling combat zones”. Furthermore, the agriculture sector, predominantly situated in confrontation areas in the south and north, grapples with manpower shortages, as reported by Maariv. EXPECTED DAMAGE TO THE ISRAELI ECONOMY According to the Israeli newspaper, “The damage to the Israeli economy is extensive on all fronts. When companies close and cannot meet their financial obligations, it ripples out to affect customers, suppliers, and others within their ecosystem.” They added that aside from business closures, there has been a significant decline in activity across various sectors since the outbreak of the war. “In a special survey of managers that we conducted recently, this is the third time since the war, it appears that approximately 56 percent of the managers testified that there has been a significant decrease in the scope of their activity since the beginning of the war,” the report added. The detailed breakdown shows that the construction industry was affected to the tune of 27%, the services industry by about 19%, and the industrial and agricultural sector by around 17%. The trade sector saw an impact of approximately 12%, while high-tech and advanced technologies experienced an 11% decrease. That said, the food and beverage sector was affected by only around 6%. According to the report, “We estimate that by the end of 2024, approximately 60,000 businesses in Israel are expected to close.” The Israeli newspaper highlights numerous challenges, including labor shortages, declining sales, high interest and financing costs, transportation and logistics issues, shortages of raw materials, restricted access to agricultural areas in combat zones, absence of customers impacted by conflict, supply chain disruptions, increased procurement challenges, and more. The Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, speaks to supporters at the Central Ashura Ceremony in the Southern Suburb of Beirut, on July 10, 2024. (Hezbollah Media Relations) Listen By Al Mayadeen English The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon – Hezbollah will remain steadfast on its decision to launch operations in support of the Palestinian people until it achieves the intended goals, the Secretary-General of the Lebanese Resistance movement, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah outlined on Tuesday. “The Resistance in Lebanon will carry on [with the operations it launched] on October 8 until we reach the goal that we aspire to on all supporting fronts,” Sayyed Nasrallah explained. Refuting all scenarios of de-escalation on the military and political supporting fronts, which include South Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, and Syria, Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that the Resistance would not back out of its position and its proactive fight in the ongoing battle. The Resistance leaders said that despite the martyrs, destroyed homes, and continuous threats of war on Lebanon, Hezbollah will not abandon its responsibilities. Sayyed Nasrallah took note of the disparity between the stances of the aforementioned countries and factions supporting the Palestinian people on the one hand, and the stances of the Arab and Islamic worlds, which he described as “sad”. Sayyed Nasrallah spoke at the Central Ashura Ceremony, as Muslims remember the journey of Imam Hussein ibn Ali, his relatives and companions, and the Battle of Karbala. Imam Hussein’s struggle in Karabla is seen by many as a historic event where a few defended a righteous cause until martyrdom and is intrinsically linked to Hezbollah and other Resistance factions’ traditions. In this context, Hezbollah’s Secretary-General quoted Imam Hussein, relating his statement to the current struggle experienced in the region. “Do you not see that the truth is not being acted upon, and falsehood is not being avoided? Truly, a believer should desire to meet his God. I see death as nothing but happiness, and living among oppressors as nothing but distress,” he said quoting the martyred Imam. Sayyed Nasrallah proceeded to directly reprehend the inactive Arab and Muslim government saying, “Where are the funds of Muslims being spent today while two million Muslims in Gaza are dying of hunger? For whom are the tanks, planes, and enormous resources being amassed?” Hezbollah has launched thousands of operations from South Lebanon in support of the Palestinian people, taking a swift decision on October 8, 2023, to attack key Israeli targets and enter into a battle of attrition with Israeli occupation forces. At the same time, Hezbollah adapts and improves its intelligence, keeping the conflict in a relentless cycle of surprise and counteraction. (Photo Credit: The Cradle) Khalil Nasrallah In addition to the escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, the occupation state has intensified its assassinations of Lebanese resistance leaders at various levels, specifically targeting field commanders directly involved on the frontlines. These assassinations are part of a longstanding conflict between the two sides, not merely a reaction to the events following Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on 7 October. The elimination of these resistance leaders is often framed within the occupation state as a significant achievement. However, it often serves more to influence perceptions within the settler community and the security establishment than to achieve strategic victories against Hezbollah. Intelligence-driven warfare The ongoing war between the Lebanese resistance and the occupation army differs fundamentally from conventional military conflicts. This confrontation’s asymmetric nature necessitates intricate intelligence operations and adaptive strategies. Both sides continually enhance their intelligence capabilities to support direct military engagements. In southern Lebanon and northern occupied Palestine, the security dimension of the conflict is clear. The resistance has notably advanced its knowledge of Israeli positions, surprising Israeli intelligence and creating a heightened state of alert within the occupation army. The recent killings of key figures like Abu Talib, head of the Nasr unit, and Abu Naama, leader of the Aziz unit, demonstrate the complexities of the conflict. Frontline commanders remain vulnerable targets despite stringent security measures. Their deaths do not equal a significant victory but rather a tactical maneuver within the broader scope of the war. In addition, security clashes become easier during military warfare for both sides and not the occupation army alone. Israel’s objectives behind assassinations The primary objectives of these assassinations go beyond mere score-settling. Israeli officials have historically debated the effectiveness of targeting resistance leaders, recognizing that the resistance operates as a system rather than a set of individuals. Amit Saar, former head of the research unit in Israel’s military intelligence, emphasized this point, noting that targeted assassinations do not fundamentally change the resistance’s trajectory. > The assassination of the Secretary-General of the Allah Party, Abbas > al-Moussawi, did not change the course of Hezbollah in Lebanon, and there are > those behind him, and the confrontation is over. As well as the assassination > of Palestinian leaders, whether military or political. When asked about the possibility of assassinating Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, he said: “Should we kill him? I don’t focus on assassinating one person in a confrontation with a system. But he could be a target in any future battle.” What Saar, who resigned after Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, said helps to understand the objectives of the assassinations carried out by the occupation army in Lebanon now. Despite this, the Israeli security establishment pursues these assassinations for several reasons, chief among them psychological impact, boosting the morale of the Israeli military and public. Another reason is internal competition, showcasing achievements within the establishment. Additionally, these actions compensate for the occupation forces’ “defensive” posture, unprecedented since the establishment of the occupation entity in 1948. Lastly, there is an element of settling historical scores by targeting leaders with long records of resistance. Resistance adaptation and intelligence Contrary to Israeli narratives, the resistance, whether in Lebanon or Gaza for that matter, has not been significantly impacted by the assassinations. Instead, these events have driven the resistance to enhance its reconnaissance capabilities. Many of Hezbollah’s recent successes stem from intelligence gathered after 7 October, demonstrating its ability to adapt and respond effectively. Public statements align with behind-the-scenes assessments, revealing that the assassination of several field commanders did not deter the resistance. Instead, these losses catalyzed the development of operations, particularly in intelligence gathering. Gathering intelligence on new points and headquarters requires extensive security efforts. According to some reports, this intelligence work is what troubles the Israeli security establishment the most, as it directly impacts ground operations. While Israelis might see targeted assassinations as achievements, these are often just tactical points scored in an ongoing conflict. Meanwhile, the resistance strengthens its intelligence and security capabilities, maintaining mobile and fixed target banks. This dynamic affects Israel’s operations, especially in scenarios where clashes may expand – something the occupation army fears. Hezbollah’s fierce retribution Examining the response to the assassination of Abu Naama, commander of the Aziz unit operating in the western sector of southern Lebanon, reveals several strategic considerations. The resistance chose to retaliate from the eastern sector, specifically from the Nasr unit’s area, whose commander, Abu Talib, was also assassinated. This tactical decision was intended to deliver several critical messages to the enemy: First, Hezbollah’s response from an unexpected area caught the occupation army off guard, as it anticipated retaliation from the area controlled by the Aziz unit. This highlighted a failure in accurately predicting the resistance’s reactions. Second, by responding from the Nasr unit’s territory, the resistance aimed to convey that the assassination of Abu Talib, followed by its counteraction, did not disrupt its operations. So, the assassination of Abu Naama would similarly not impact the resistance operations. The recent retaliation for the assassination of Abu Naama, coupled with a response to another resistance fighter’s death in the Bekaa, demonstrated the resistance’s resilience. Notably, for the first time since 1973, it targeted a long-range technical and electronic reconnaissance center in Mount Hermon, within the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. The resistance’s capabilities remain robust and evolve to deliver more impactful military and security responses. It is committed to ongoing support operations as deemed necessary until the aggression in the Gaza Strip ceases. The response to the assassinations of its leaders indicates that Hezbollah’s structure and operations remain largely unaffected. Its actions, whether within the ‘security belt’ in northern occupied Palestine or in more distant areas targeted by its strikes, continue to impact the occupation army. This is evident in both the current confrontation and potential future conflicts, as inferred from Israeli military performance and statements from senior officers, particularly former ones. The views expressed in this article do not necessarily reflect those of The Cradle. (World Economic Forum, Flickr, CC BY-NC-SA 2.0) It is a matter of record that the Zionist project has had extensive territorial designs on the lands known as Palestine since at least the early 20th century. As others have argued, the Israelis’ openly racist assault on the Palestinians of Gaza is to be understood not as a sudden eruption of violence, a departure, but as an especially savage continuation of Zionist conduct for more than a century. When history is brought to bear in this fashion, it becomes increasingly apparent that the invasion of Gaza since the events of last Oct. 7 ought not be seen in isolation. The more pathologically disturbed members of Benjamin Netanyahu’s freak-show regime — notably, but not only, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben–Givr, the finance and national security ministers — have never been shy on this point. They are entirely dedicated to the restoration of Eretz Yisrael, the mystical Land of Israel, which, variously interpreted through the ages, could extend at the extreme from the Red Sea all the way to the Euphrates Valley. But the crazed ultras to whom Netanyahu owes his political survival have not yet got far enough to turn their visions into articulated policy. Is this changing? This is our question, along with another: Is the Biden regime — or at this point its successor — prepared to “stand with Israel,” as American leaders like to put it, if extremist dreams of violent conquest turn into real, live political and military plans?I have been convinced for some time, as I gather that many Palestinians are, that when the Israel Occupation Forces are done in Gaza they will next turn to the West Bank. On this point I now correct myself: In my interpretation the IOF, in close collaboration with brutish Israeli settlers, has already begun its assault in the West Bank. Attacking Hezbollah Of late the Israelis have also been openly threatening to launch a full-scale attack on Hezbollah, the political and military movement that controls southern Lebanon. This, too, bears interpretation. Douglas Macgregor, the retired colonel and now an energetic commentator on politico- military affairs, has no trouble putting together the 2–and–2 of this moment. Here he is last week on “Judging Freedom,” Andrew Napolitano’s webcast program: > “Whatever happened on the 7th of October, and I’m still not convinced that was > not allowed to happen, … the decision then to attack had very little to do > with what happened on the 7th of October and everything to do with a long-term > strategic plan to begin the process of ethnically cleansing, expelling, or > murdering, whatever you want to call it, the Arabs in Gaza and, ultimately, > the Arabs on the West Bank.” This seems right but short of the emerging reality. A few minutes later in his exchange with Macgregor, Napolitano played a clip of Netanyahu addressing a table of officials, at least some of whom are American, last Friday: > “Iran is fighting us on a seven-front war. Obviously, Hamas and Hezbollah. The > Houthis, militias in Iraq and Syria. Judea and Samaria on the West Bank. Iran > itself. > > They’d like to topple Jordan. Their goal is to have a combined ground > offensive from their various fronts, coupled with combined missile > bombardments. We’ve been given the opportunity to scuttle it. And we will. > > The first requirement is to cut that hand [he gestures as if to cut through > his right forearm], Hamas. People who do these things to us are not going to > be there. We will have a long battle, I don’t think it’s that long, but we’ll > get rid of them. We also have to deter the other elements of the Iran terror > axis. We have to deal with the axis. > > The axis doesn’t threaten only us. It threatens you. It’s on the march to > conquer the Middle East — conquer the Middle East — conquer. That means > conquer Saudi Arabia, conquer the Arabian Peninsula, it’s just a question of > time. And what’s standing in their way is a small Satan, that’s us, on the > road to the middle-sized Satan, that’s the Europeans — they’re always offended > when I tell them that — ‘You’re the great Satan!’ And we have to stop that.” So far as I know — and more in this line may be said regularly in Netanyahu’s closed-door cabinet meetings — this is the Israeli prime minister’s most explicit statement to date of how apartheid Israel understands the Middle East and its place in it. The danger of this vision will be immediately obvious. In perfectly clear language, the Netanyahu government has effectively announced that its policy is to widen what is now the assault on Gaza, the IOF’s escalating aggressions in the West Bank and Israel’s provocations along Lebanon’s southern border. However much these statements reflect political pressure the extremists in his cabinet are exerting on Netanyahu, official policy is moving in their direction. We already see this pattern, as noted, in the West Bank territories. As The New York Times reported last week, illegal settlers, under IOF protection, have stolen more land from Palestinians so far this year, typically at gunpoint, than at any time since the Oslo Accords were signed in 1993. West Bank sources report that up to 9,000 Palestinians have been arrested since the events of last October — mostly boys and young men, those typically inclined to organize an armed resistance movement. In my read this is the West Bank’s version of the assault on Gaza. No F–16s, tanks, or heavy artillery this time: Deploying these would risk serious international opprobrium. No, the West Bank campaign will be waged more or less invisibly — a farm or an olive grove, a village or a murdered teenager or a kilometer of road at a time. The US & Israeli Supremacy The larger war, the war beyond the West Bank, is of course another matter. Israel knows full well it is incapable of waging anything like a “seven-front war” on its own: It is failing in the Gaza Strip as we speak. Netanyahu has chosen this moment to mount a go-for-broke attempt to bring the U.S. into some kind of once-for-all conflict that would leave Israel supreme in the region — and so would instantly threaten to be the world’s most dangerous war — since who knows when. We come to the second of the questions noted earlier. If Netanyahu proceeds to provoke his many-front war, will the Biden regime or the administration that follows it continue to offer the “unconditional support” the U.S. has extended to Tel Aviv for many decades? I wish this were a more interesting question than it actually is. If Donald Trump retakes the White House, whatever modest restraints Washington may now feel — as the barbarities in Gaza continue — will disappear. But what about Biden, on the very off chance he runs in November, and the very, very off chance he wins? What about a Democratic successor who defeats Trump? A couple of week ago, as things heated up along Lebanon’s southern border, Biden told Netanyahu — or says he told Netanyahu — that if Israel invades south Lebanon it will do so without American support. Another red line, it seems. Biden has drawn as many of these as there are stripes on Old Glory. There is the obnoxiously pronounced confidence Netanyahu displays when describing a wider war well beyond Israel’s capabilities. And there is the power the Israel lobby exerts in Washington, not least over Biden, who has received more funds from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, AIPAC — more than $4 million during his Senate years alone — than anyone else holding elected office. Late last month the U.S. Navy made one of those quiet logistical moves that sometimes seem to reveal more than intended. It sent an amphibious assault ship, the USS Wasp, into the waters of the eastern Mediterranean off the Lebanese coast. Among its other capabilities, the Wasp is designed to manage large-scale evacuations. But an American official told The Associated Press, a little defensively I’d say, “It’s about deterrence,” implying the deployment is part of Washington’s diplomatic effort to prevent a dangerous war between Israel and Hezbollah. Wait a minute. Just who is the Wasp intended to deter? Neither Hezbollah nor Iran wants a war with Israel any more than the U.S. wants to see one. No need of deterrence there. And a ship off the Lebanese coast is not going to deter Israel: It stands unambiguously to encourage “the Jewish state” in its effort to bait the U.S. into the big war for which it spoils. While one ship near Lebanese waters does not signal any grand new commitment to a grand new war — let us not over-interpret — the message seems clear: We don’t want a new war on our hands, Bibi, but if you provoke one, well, we’ll have to be there for you, “standing with Israel.” I have written this previously but it bears repeating now: In Israel the U.S. has a Frankenstein’s monster on its hands, and there seems little prospect of anyone in Washington having the intelligence and courage to disconnect the electrodes. However dangerous the Netanyahu regime makes the Middle East, will be precisely the danger in which the U.S. will find itself. The number of Palestinians killed in the massacre committed by Israeli occupation forces east of Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, has risen to 29, Al Mayadeen‘s correspondent confirmed on Wednesday, with the number likely to rise. On Tuesday evening, Israeli occupation forces bombed al-Awda school in Aabasan in Khan Younis, which shelters thousands of displaced civilians. According to its latest figures, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that more than 53 Palestinians were injured, including serious and critical cases, as a result of the latest Israeli massacre. Our correspondent said that the Israeli occupation is committing more massacres in Rafah amid the collapse of the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip. He highlighted that more than 70% of Gaza City is subjected to relentless aerial and ground bombardment. Elsewhere, he noted that signs of famine were worsening, leaving the people in Gaza with nothing to eat but the remaining leaves on the trees. AABASAN MASSACRE SIGN OF ISRAELI DEFEAT: HAMAS Hamas said the massacre represents a continuation of the genocidal war and heinous massacres against the defenseless Palestinian people. In a statement, the movement urged the people of the occupied West Bank to activate all means of support and assistance, to confront the Israeli occupation, and to boost participation in the Al-Aqsa Flood Battle. It also called on the Arab and Islamic peoples and the free peoples of the world to renew their uprising (Intifada) in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and to immediately take to the streets with massive demonstrations and protests in all cities around the world. Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, said the Aabasan massacre is a “crime of genocide and deliberate ethnic cleansing.” He pointed out that the targeting of civilians and all aspects of civilian life by the Israeli occupation is a sign of its defeat, not a prelude to victory. This comes as Israeli occupation forces continue bombarding different areas across the Gaza Strip. Al Mayadeen‘s correspondent said that two Palestinians were killed and six others were injured in an Israeli strike that targeted a house in the town of Bani Suhaila, east of Khan Younis. Our correspondent pointed to a number of injuries in an Israeli airstrike on a house in the al-Daraj neighborhood in central Gaza City, in addition to artillery shelling on al-Zaytoun neighborhood. GAZA CIVIL DEFENSE DECRIES ISRAELI TARGETING OF CIVILIAN SITES In a related context, the Directorate of Supply and Equipment at the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Gaza denounced the continued massacres carried out by Israeli occupation forces and the targeting of civilian sites and institutions designated as shelters, which puts at risk the lives of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with US-made weapons. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the directorate condemned the Israeli occupation’s use of prohibited bombs in densely populated areas, amid an increasing humanitarian blockade, the halting of fuel supplies to civil defense teams, and the reduction of fuel to other humanitarian institutions. The directorate also called on the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to allocate fuel for civil defense teams to continue providing services amid the intensifying airstrikes and bloodshed that exacerbate the humanitarian crises in the Gaza Strip. It is noteworthy that the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Gaza announced that the number of its crews killed since the start of the Israeli aggression has risen to 76 martyrs. PRCS UNABLE TO RESPOND TO DISTRESS CALLS DUE TO ISRAELI BOMBARDMENT Similarly, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) stated that its crews are unable to respond to dozens of distress calls in Gaza due to the intensity and danger of the Israeli bombardment. “Field reports from Gaza Governorate indicate that the situation for residents is extremely dire,” the PRCS indicated on X, adding that “the occupation forces continue to target residential blocks and displace citizens from their homes and shelters.” The PRCS had earlier announced that all its “medical points and emergency clinics in the Gaza Governorate are out of service due to the Israeli occupation’s forcible evacuation measures in various areas of the governorate where these medical points and clinics are located.” Read more: ‘Israel’ kills 33+ children through malnutrition, starves all of Gaza RELATED STORIES * Extermination, destruction in Gaza can only be ‘genocide’: UN expert * Day 277 of Israeli aggression on Gaza: 38,243 killed, 88,033 injured * ‘Israel’ kills 29 refugees in Khan Younis school massacre * Israeli occupation kills 13-year-old Palestinian child in West Bank * From academia to defense, ‘Israel’ growing more and more isolated * 9th House Democrat this week calls for Biden’s candidacy withdrawal * Pezeshkian’s swearing-in ceremony set for July 30 * K-Pop World Festival under fire over Israeli participation, artwashing * ‘Israel’ to suffer ‘severe damage’ in war with Hezbollah: INSS report * Hoopoe – Part 2: Hezbollah over ‘the eyes of Israel’ in occupied Golan * Meta shields Zionism amid global outcry over Israeli genocide in Gaza * Le Pen’s 2022 campaign finances under probe by French authorities * Forging futures: Venezuela, Iran deepen strategic ties WAR ON GAZA SHARE THIS: * Share * * Facebook * Twitter * Email * Like Loading... According to the information provided in the video, these Israeli sites are tasked with espionage, guidance, long-range monitoring, and electronic attacks involving jamming and deception. Moreover, the sites contain key nodes for communications and data exchange and house forces from the 8200 and 9900 units, as well as the electronic warfare unit. Additionally, the six Israeli sites include forces responsible for securing the bases, their equipment, and the border area. It is noteworthy that the intelligence and early warning bases filmed by Hezbollah’s Hoopoe are referred to as “the eyes of the state of Israel,” and the footage released included multiple scans of these sites. Additionally, the footage revealed command centers and camps belonging to the Israeli occupation military: * Habushit and Ma’aleh Golan barracks, along with newly established points during Operation Al-Aqsa Flood * Yoav barracks, which includes an artillery and missile battalion operating on the al-Jalil and Golan fronts * Southern Revaya barracks, which includes the 71st Armored Battalion headquarters in the 188th Brigade * Northern Revaya barracks, which includes the 74th Armored Battalion headquarters in the 188th Brigade * Alika barracks, which includes the main headquarters of the 188th Armored Brigade * Kirin barracks, which includes a camp for ground units training in the Golan fields * Southern Gamla barracks, which includes a training and readiness camp for ground forces the size of a battalion and a base for the 77th Armored Battalion * Keila camp, which includes a primary training base for regional command and a key facility for troops training in the Golan training camp * Zaura artillery position, which includes a permanent artillery battery site belonging to the 769th Brigade * Odem artillery position, which includes another permanent artillery battery site belonging to the 810th Brigade * Odem border site, which includes a Raz artillery radar and a three-dimensional air radar for aerial management * Sha’al headquarters, the alternative command post for the 210th Regional Division * Nafah base, which serves as the headquarters for the 210th Regional Division and its 366th Communications Battalion * Southern Keila barracks * Yarden barracks * Nafah base * Tsnobar base * Katsavya barracks * Ofek airport * Ofek camp RELATED NEWS * The “Hoopoe”, the Lebanese Resistance’s eyes over occupied Palestine * Hezbollah rockets rain on occupied Golan Heights in double-operation The video also showcased new points and roads for Israeli forces outside the aforementioned sites, established during Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, along with fortified shelters for soldiers. Experts have previously explained to Al Mayadeen that the missile illustrated next to the target card has guiding fins at its front, symbolizing a precise missile, which is a message Hezbollah intended to convey in the video. A screengrab from a video published by the Military Media of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon shows the identification card of the six strategic electronic reconnaissance sites in the occupied Syrian Golan Hezbollah’s video concluded with the word “to be continued,” followed by additional aerial reconnaissance footage from Safed and Tabarayya, to be featured in the next episode of the series. This episode of the Hoopoe follows the first nine-minute-and-a-half episode, titled “This is what the Hoopoe came back with,” in which the Military Media of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon released footage showing its reconnaissance drones flying over swathes of occupied Palestinian land, including Kiryat Shmona, Nahariya, Safad, Karmiel, Afula, all the way to Haifa and its port. The published footage included intelligence about Israeli sites inside occupied Palestine and clearly showed that the drone arrived at the port of Haifa intact. Hezbollah’s drones brought back footage and information about sensitive sites they captured over Haifa starting with the port itself to oil refineries and military factories, not to mention the locations of military battleships and important economic hubs in the port. Five days later, Hezbollah released a video showing vital Israeli targets only known to the occupation’s security apparatus, suggesting that these sites would be targeted in case of a war against Lebanon. The video included snippets of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s speech, in which he warned the Israeli occupation that the Resistance would fight with no restraints or limits if war were imposed on Lebanon. MAINSTREAM MEDIA HAS SMEARED THE GRAYZONE FOR EXPOSING ISRAEL’S “HANNIBAL DIRECTIVE” SCANDAL MONTHS AGO. Editor’s note: The Washington Post and Israel’s Haaretz have published numerous scurrilous and error-filled attacks on The Grayzone’s Max Blumenthal and other colleagues for helping expose the Israeli military’s deliberate killing of Israeli civilians while held captive by Palestinian militants on October 7. The Israeli army investigation and a June 12, 2024 United Nations report are the latest official investigations which corroborate our factual reporting. The following article was originally published by Antiwar.com. A review by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) set to be released this summer will conclude that Israeli soldiers killed many of their own people on October 7, Israeli media reported. The inquiry is expected to identify multiple failures of the IDF during the Hamas rampage in southern Israel. According to Israel’s Channel 12 News, the IDF report due to be released in mid-July found “many casualties due to our forces firing on our forces.” Tel Aviv has been accused of ordering its soldiers to kill hostages rather than allow Hamas to use them in negotiations, a policy long known as the ‘Hannibal Directive.’ The IDF’s October 7 review appears to point to incompetence rather than the intentional killing of its own civilians. However, Israeli outlet Ynet’s investigation of the IDF’s conduct found Tel Aviv had ordered troops to follow the Hannibal policy. Still, the conclusions from the forthcoming report will amount to an official admission that scores, if not more, of Israelis were killed by IDF soldiers, not Hamas. On October 7, Hamas launched a large-scale assault on southern Israel that left hundreds of attackers, 767 Israeli civilians, and 376 members of the Israeli security forces dead. The Jerusalem Post recently reported that many of the Israeli deaths were caused by IDF overreaction or inaction. “According to the report, the probe will find numerous cases of friendly fire errors leading to tragic deaths, groups of IDF soldiers who were too hesitant to confront Hamas invaders (as still others rushed to fight without being formally summoned),” the outlet noted, adding that “higher-up commanders ordering some groups of soldiers to remain in a reserve second-line capacity – when they should have headed into the front, and not knowing how to handle complex battlefield questions involving a hostage.” While Tel Aviv has denied that the Hannibal Directive was put into effect and insists it is no longer used, evidence has emerged of Israeli forces firing on homes knowing civilians were inside. One incident in Kibbutz Be’eri left 12 Israeli civilians dead. There are multiple probes investigating the IDF’s actions on October 7, though one Israeli government-led inquiry was shut down by the country’s top court this week amid objections from the IDF and a number of senior officials. This adds to a mounting series of reports indicating the issue is widespread and systematic. The United Nations report, released on June 12 under a Human Rights Council resolution, revealed that Israeli forces “systematically targeted and subjected Palestinians to SGBV [Sexual and Gender-Based Violence] online and in person since October 7, including through forced public nudity, forced public stripping, sexualized torture and abuse, and sexual humiliation and harassment.” The report noted specific types of sexual violence perpetrated by Israeli soldiers targeting men and boys during ground operations and arrests. Soldiers took videos and photos of Palestinians after stripping them partially or fully naked. The captives were also “coerced to do physical movements while naked.” Families of men and boys taken captive were made to watch as they were paraded in the street, either fully naked or in their underwear while being subjected to sexual harassment. The commission concluded that the gender-based violence “directed at Palestinian women was intended to humiliate and degrade the Palestinian population as a whole.” The report asserted that “forced public stripping and nudity and other types of abuse by Israeli military personnel were either ordered or condoned.” “Sexual violence has been perpetrated throughout the OPT [Occupied Palestinian Territories] during evacuation processes, before or during arrest, at civilian homes and at a shelter for women and girls,” the report stated. > > From Humiliation to Rape: The Untold Story of Israel’s Abuse of Palestinian > > Women > > “Sexual acts were carried out by force, including under threats, intimidation > and other forms of duress, in inherently coercive circumstances due to the > armed conflict and the presence of armed Israeli soldiers.” > > In February, a UN panel of experts stated there was “credible evidence” of > sexual violence against Palestinian women in both Gaza and the West Bank. Photo Credit: The Cradle Pepe Escobar MOSCOW – Something of extraordinary magnitude happened in Moscow on 23 May. Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa personally asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to help organize a peace conference on Palestine, at which Russia would be the first non-Arab nation invited. Al-Khalifa and Putin had two rounds of discussions – one of them closed – during which the main focus was always Palestine. The Bahraini monarch noted that in a rare show of unity, the Arab world had finally come together in agreement to end the war in Gaza. It was implied that Russia was subsequently chosen as the most reliable mediator to end the brutal conflict. Bahrain – and the Arab League – recognize that the Russian position centers around what Putin had previously defined as the “UN formula”: an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem. That happens to be the position of the BRICS-10 nations and virtually the whole Global Majority. Crucially, it is also the common position of China and the Arab world, reaffirmed in Beijing only one week after the Russia-Bahrain meeting. The problem is how to implement the “formula” when the US hegemon, Israel’s unconditional ally, has a virtual stranglehold on the United Nations. By 2020, as Tel Aviv was openly announcing the inevitable annexation of the West Bank, the Abraham Accords were smashing a major Arab taboo on openly supporting Israel, via the normalization agreements signed in Washington DC by Bahrain, the UAE, Morocco, and Sudan. Nine months ago, Palestine was virtually isolated, and destined to extinction via quiet Israeli policies to incrementally force expulsion. But never underestimate the power of a genocide committed in broad daylight, on video. Today, the Russia-China strategic partnership, BRICS, and the Global Majority have been mobilized to enshrine Palestine as a sovereign state – faithful to the recent super-majority UN General Assembly vote to accept Palestine as a UN member. It will be a long, winding, and thorny road that has the potential to split the world in two. Lavrov lays it all out The St. Petersburg forum last week offered three crucial messages to the Global Majority, focused around BRICS. The crux of the sessions may have been geoeconomics, but a now-unavoidable message of support to Palestine crept into the sidelines. After a panel ostensibly debating the supply and demand of oil and gas, and which touched upon the principled role of Yemen in the Red Sea directed against the Gaza genocide, support for Palestine, amidst friendly smiles (but off the record), was emphatic from everyone – from OPEC secretary-general Haitham al-Ghais to the UAE’s Minister of Energy Suhail Mohamed al-Mazrouei. Same on a Russia-Oman panel, coming from Minister of Commerce Qais bin Mohammed bin Moosa al-Yousef. Earlier this week, the Palestine tragedy was addressed in detail – on points 34 and 35 – in the joint statement of the BRICS 10 Ministers of Foreign Affairs, who sat at the same table for the first time in Nizhny Novgorod, preparing for the extremely important annual BRICS summit next October in Kazan, under the Russian presidency. Three very important points were made there: First, the Ministers “reaffirmed their rejection of any attempt aiming at forcefully displacing, expelling or transferring the Palestinian people from their land.” Second, they collectively “expressed serious concern at Israel’s continued blatant disregard of international law, the UN Charter, UN resolutions and Court orders.” And third, the ten foreign ministers: “Reaffirmed their support for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and reiterated their unwavering commitment to the vision of the two-state solution based on international law including relevant UNSC and UNGA resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative that includes the establishment of a sovereign, independent and viable State of Palestine in line with internationally recognized borders of June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital living side by side in peace and security with Israel.” This is BRICS speaking with one voice – including, crucially, representatives of major Muslim-majority states: Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE. and Egypt. Then Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, at an expanded BRICS session defined as BRICS+/BRICS Outreach, offered extra, important, context. “We held an intra-Palestinian meeting in Moscow. We did this repeatedly. The last time it was held in late February and early March of this year, all Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Fatah, were present. For the first time, an event of this kind ended with the adoption of a joint statement in which everyone, including Hamas, expressed their readiness to unite the Palestinian ranks on the basis of the platform of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Previously, it was not possible to achieve this.” Lavrov explained why, for Russia, it is essential to restore Palestinian unity: “Only a united Palestine can be a partner in negotiations aimed at achieving the maximum desired outcome. As long as the Palestinians are divided, this is unlikely to work. Now, without any Palestinians, they are beginning to think about what to do with the Gaza Strip next: either to establish some kind of protectorate of Arab countries, or to introduce some kind of peacekeeping force, or to artificially declare that these will be territories governed by the Palestinian National Authority. These are all initiatives that are imposed by external players.” And that brings us to the kernel of the Russian position: “The most important component of our long-term policy in this area will be to support the movement for the creation of a Palestinian state in full compliance with UN resolutions.” How to respond “symmetrically” All of the above sums up the carefully calibrated, official Russian position. Moscow abhors Israel’s non-stop, irrational escalation while ceasefire proposals are on hand galore. At the same time, it won’t take sides – either with Hamas or with Yemen’s Ansarallah. It is a consensus diplomats and Russia analysts routinely express: Russia will not get into a war thousands of kilometers away when it is fighting a US/NATO existential threat right at its western border. After Putin’s answers in the Q&A following his address to the plenary session in St. Petersburg, debate raged on what sort of “symmetrical” responses Russia’s ministry of defense would come up with to counterpunch NATO’s green light for strikes with long-range missiles inside the Russian Federation. West Asia, predictably, features in the favorite scenario: advanced strike weapons deployed in Syria, described as “Syrian weapons” to mirror the west’s “Ukrainian weapons” subterfuge. These would supplement arms already deployed at Russia’s Khmeimim and Tartus bases – covering the Eastern Mediterranean, Lebanon, Israel, and US bases in Jordan, occupied Syria and occupied Iraq – and would be operated by Russian personnel, much as US/NATO personnel operate “Ukrainian” weapons. A BRICS thorn Now we come to the thorn in the BRICS flower arrangement – Saudi Arabia. A discombobulated White House and US Deep State seem to have found a formula to wean Riyadh away from its new role as strong BRICS player: a landmark defense treaty, dubbed the Strategic Alliance Agreement, in the wings awaiting Riyadh’s formalization of relations with Tel Aviv. The Strategic Alliance Agreement would need to get a two-thirds majority vote in the US Senate. Yet insistence on “normalization with Israel” may well kill the deal, as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (MbS) now has options to carefully consider, not only regarding the Gaza tragedy, but over his new BRICS alliances. Riyadh’s official position on Palestine is tied up with BRICS; end of the war/genocide in Gaza, and the establishment of a Palestinian state. And every grain of sand in the lands of Islam is fully aware that a Tel Aviv ruled by an ethnocentric mob of extremists won’t accept a two-state solution. Moreover, a Saudi-US military alliance is totally incompatible with Riyadh becoming an influential member of BRICS. Chessboard moves are instead pointing to sooner or later a possible Global Majority military alliance to counterpunch the escalating US/NATO war – Hybrid and otherwise – against the dawning of a multinodal, polycentric, and in Putin’s terminology in St. Peterburg, “harmonic” multipolar world. Add to it the expiration earlier this week of the US-Saudi agreement signed 50 years ago to establish the petrodollar, essentially in exchange for US military protection. Already last year Riyadh made it clear the agreement would not be renewed when it clinched a deal with China based on energy trade using the petroyuan. So in theory we are advancing further on down the road towards the demise of the petrodollar, coupled with the expansion of the digital yuan. The Central Bank of Saudi Arabia is now a “full participant” of Project mBridge, which unites the BIS Innovation Hub, the Central Bank of Thailand, the Central Bank of the UAE, the People’s Bank of China, and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Essentially, mBridge is a multi-Central Bank digital currency (CBDC) platform shared among Central Banks and commercial banks, and enabling instant cross-border payments and settlement. Thailand, for instance, is buying oil from the UAE using mBridge. There are no less than 26 mBridge observers – quite a mixed bag, including the China-led Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the European Central Bank, the IMF, and the World Bank. As Saudi Arabia joins mBridge, Saudi Aramco – after opening itself to foreign investors with a huge IPO – has just ceded an extra 0.64 percent of its capital, with 60 percent of the buyers American. Aramco is a humongous fountain of dividends for shareholders: this year, that will amount to a whopping $141 billion. Guess who are the top new investors? The Big Three – Vanguard, BlackRock, and State Street – now all wallowing in Saudi oil. Arabs, CENTCOM, and Israel: in bed together? And now for the ultimate complicating factor. On Monday, military officers from Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Jordan – which includes three BRICS members and Russia-friendly Bahrain – met with Herzi Halevi, the IDF’s Chief of General Staff to discuss…defense cooperation. The meeting was facilitated by none other than the US CENTCOM. Although as low-profile as it gets, the meeting still leaked, given the juxtaposition of the Gaza genocide alongside a meeting of top Arab leaders sitting with the Arab world’s worst enemies. A post-modern epigone of the cynics dwelling in the Agora in Ancient Greece would remark that with CENTCOM Arab “friends” like these – three of them BRICS members – Palestine does not need enemies. Meanwhile, the tragedy persists on so many levels. As Chinese high school students all across the civilization-state show their support for Palestine after taking their university entrance exams, the US-Israel axis homogenizes terrorism, linked to the debacle of Project Ukraine, coupled with the non-stop killing of Palestinians. Everything is being sucked into the black hole of terrorism – complete with NATO now openly re-arming the neonazi Azov Battalion, and Kiev targeting civilians in Belgorod with drones and scattering mines in parks where kids play. All the components of the Hegemon-fed Terror Foreign Legion are coming together, in lockstep with Israel, which is essentially ISIS with nuclear weapons. But for all their lofty ideals and sacred belief in the UN, the BRICS still have not come up with a solid, practical strategy to fight the horror. He has reported from and lived in the occupied Palestinian territories and hosts the show ‘Palestine Files’. Director of ‘Steal of the Century: Trump’s Palestine-Israel Catastrophe’. Follow him on Twitter @falasteen47 Robert Inlakesh President Joe Biden’s long-overdue demand for both sides to accept a Gaza ceasefire proposal appears to be faltering under Israeli refusal to comply, an escalation of Israel’s offensive in Rafah, and contradictions between the proposal and the president’s speech. On May 31, President Joe Biden issued what many considered a long-overdue call for both Israel and Hamas to accept an Israeli ceasefire proposal to end the war in the Gaza Strip. In the speech, he briefly outlined the phases of the proposal, stating it would be “a road map to an enduring ceasefire and the release of all hostages.” According to unnamed officials in the Biden administration, the timing and manner of the president’s announcement were designed to pressure Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept it. Shortly afterward, however, Benjamin Netanyahu publicly stated that his regime’s ceasefire was aimed at the destruction of Hamas. He affirmed his intention to continue the war in Gaza until victory is achieved against the Palestinian resistance movement. This directly contradicted the spirit of President Biden’s speech, implying that despite the ceasefire agreement with Hamas, it would still enable the dismantling of the group. The confusion resulting from these conflicting narratives triggered an adverse reaction from ministers within the Israeli premier’s ruling coalition, including members of Netanyahu’s Likud Party. Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir announced that his Jewish Power Party would suspend its role in the ruling coalition until the terms of the ceasefire proposal were made available to him. According to polling data released in March, around 50% of Israelis support the idea of Israel taking control of the Gaza Strip in a post-war situation. Only 10% approved of the Palestinian Authority running Gaza, and none of the respondents favored Hamas remaining in power. While most Israeli Jews do not believe that Benjamin Netanyahu is winning the war in Gaza, the polling data suggests that the majority of Israelis want the war to continue and feel that Israel has either used enough or not enough force in Gaza. > Sold to the Highest Bidder: Trump to Greenlight Israeli Annexation for > Campaign Funds On the other hand, Hamas officials heavily criticized President Biden’s portrayal of the group as obstructing the deal. They pointed to what they labeled as blatant Israeli intransigence and highlighted contradictions between the actual proposal and how the U.S. president represented it. Majed Al-Ansari, Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesperson, said, “We are waiting for a clear Israeli position that represents the entire government in response to the U.S.’s Gaza proposal.” Hamas initially received the Biden administration’s initiative “positively” but maintains that any viable ceasefire proposal must lead to the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the end of the war. Meanwhile, Israel has ramped up its offensive actions in the Gaza Strip, advancing with its invasion of Rafah despite the International Court of Justice’s ruling ordering Tel Aviv to halt its offensive there. Not only has Israel continued its military actions in the Rafah area, but it has also launched new incursions into the central region of the besieged coastal enclave as the daily death toll continues to climb. On Thursday, an Israeli airstrike targeted a UN school in the Nuseirat Refugee Camp, killing around 45 civilians, half of whom were women and children. A recent leak of the details of the ceasefire proposal, as reported by The Economist, appears to contradict President Biden’s presentation of the Israeli deal being offered. The article noted that the proposal would be much more difficult to conclude in phases two and three than the president had suggested. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Biden’s representation of the ceasefire proposal “inaccurate.” As the Israeli military continues to increase its operations in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian civilian death toll rises, hope appears to be faltering. On May 6, Hamas accepted a ceasefire proposal. However, the Israeli government responded by immediately launching its Rafah offensive and seizing the Rafah Crossing between Gaza and Egypt. This move violated Israel’s 1979 Camp David normalization agreement with Egypt and led to the breakdown of ceasefire talks. SHARE THIS: * Share * * Facebook * Twitter * Email * Like Loading... Abdel Qader Othman With Israel appearing determined to launch a large-scale military operation in Rafah to reverse its current image of defeat in Gaza, another public confrontation – between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – intensified last week. Biden claims to have halted the shipment of precision weapons to Israel to prevent a large operation in southern Gaza, where around 1.3 million displaced Palestinian civilians have sought shelter, while Netanyahu threatens to continue the war without Washington’s help. In a CNN interview last week, the US president said, “I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities – that deal with that problem.” To which Netanyahu responded that same evening, in a podcast discussion with American Jewish journalist Dan Senor, “If we have to stand alone, we will do so, because I’m the prime minister of Israel, the one and only Jewish state, and we will not go down.” At first glance, the growing tensions between the two allies playing out in the political and media arenas seemed promising for those parties keen on ending the Palestinian bloodshed seven months after Tel Aviv launched its brutal assault on Gaza. But the Israeli premier, who has often been caught on camera boasting about Israel’s control over the US political scene, may have won this round. Within just a few days, Biden’s warnings and threats all but dissipated. It began with a flurry of American politicians hitting the TV circuit to lambast their sitting president for veering from Israel’s war agenda, with some US media outlets describing Biden’s decision as “encouraging antisemitism.” US ambassador to Tel Aviv, Jack Lew, following the script of his Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, confirmed on Sunday that “fundamentally, nothing has changed in the basic relationship” – that only one batch of US munitions was frozen, but everything else continues to flow “ordinarily.” And Biden’s meek initiative ended decisively on Tuesday when his administration informed Congress that it is planning a $1 billion weapons transfer to Israel. Netanyahu certainly knew how to turn the screws. Confirmation of the status quo As this was the first rhetorical confrontation between the US and Israel since the Gaza war’s onset, many Arab and western media outlets interpreted the intensity of the exchanges as a result of growing divergence between a Biden administration concerned “for the lives of civilians” and a Netanyahu government seeking to restore the deterrent power it lost on 7 October with Operation Al-Aqsa Flood and Iran’s 13 April retaliatory strikes. Speaking to The Cradle, Australia-based political analyst Hussein al-Dirani says: “The American administration is primarily responsible for the war of extermination practiced by the Zionist forces against the Palestinians now, in the past, and in the future, and the entity is nothing but one of the arms of American evil in the Arab and Islamic region. Biden can, within one day or less, stop this massacre through an order to the leaders of the aggression to the effect: ‘Stop the war now,’ and it will stop immediately.“ The west’s commitment to Zionism The roots of today’s conflict remain an age-old one: the implantation of the Israeli entity into West Asia, a project of global Zionism originating from the “Herzl Conference” at the end of the 19th century. For decades, no American or European political leader has had the option of ending support for Israel. The global Israel lobby, now deeply entrenched in western political, academic, media, and finance institutions, aims to protect the existence of Israel at all costs, stabilize it in the region, and push Arab countries to normalize relations with Tel Aviv, explains Yemeni political journalist Osama Sari. Sari, who is editor-in-chief of the Yemeni Press Agency, tells The Cradle that Biden cannot abandon Israel at this stage, with the contentious US presidential election looming in November and facing great domestic pressure from anti-war US youths and key minority voters. Some observers believe that Biden’s threat to cut off offensive weapons to Israel was a feint to score points with his restless, disenchanted electorate and to prod Israel into re-opening negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire, which Tel Aviv recently rejected. Others, like analyst Dirani, contend that Biden’s political ploys cannot effectively influence the presidential contest because Biden and his chief competition, former US President Donald Trump, are both known, longtime, to-the-wall supporters of Israel. Theatrics of US-Israel’ tensions’ Biden’s short-lived media strategy intended to market the idea that Washington is dissatisfied with Netanyahu’s intransigence and his insistence on invading Rafah to commit even more massacres – turning global and US public opinion further against Israel – despite Hamas agreeing to a ceasefire under the Egyptian–Qatari proposal. Rhetoric and posturing aside, the US position toward Gaza does not fundamentally differ from Israel’s and may even be more impulsive and irrational. Had it not been for unprecedented amounts of US military support from day one of this round of conflict, the Gaza war would have stalled a good six months earlier. Israel would also not have been able to withstand Iran’s retaliatory response in April without the US military leading all defensive operations, nor even hope to thwart the combined military operations of the region’s Axis of Resistance. In the UN Security Council, the US has a long history of using its veto power to shield Israel. Out of the 262 vetoed resolutions since the UN’s inception in 1945, Washington has wielded its veto 116 times on issues related to Palestine. It used this power 80 times to prevent condemnation of Israel and 36 times against laws supporting Palestinian rights, with the latest veto coming down just a month ago. The White House and the State Department also consistently provide cover for Israel, claiming absurdly that the occupation state is defending itself by international law and that the US has not observed any violations in Gaza despite the Palestinian death toll exceeding 35,000 and the number of wounded surpassing 78,000. Whose red lines? This unquestioning support of Israel, despite mumblings in some Beltway corridors that Tel Aviv is becoming a “US liability,” begs the question of whether there is any US red line for malign Israeli behaviors. Yemeni editor Sari doesn’t see the Americans drawing any lines for Israel, no matter the crime: “Until now, no international party has been able to classify Biden’s red lines. His attempt to suggest that it was an invasion of Rafah is not convincing at all. The entity has not left any red lines since the beginning of its aggression against Gaza, and its crimes affected hundreds of patients in the hospitals it stormed.“ In fact, Sari adds, “This point does not reflect real seriousness, as Biden and Blinken stated in November that there were no red lines that would prevent military support for Israel against Hamas.” Journalist Dirani agrees, reflecting growing Arab opinion that the US is only stage-managing matters and shows little intent to pressure Tel Aviv into a resolution of this brutal war: “Biden wants to tell Netanyahu that instead of committing 100 massacres a day in Rafah, he should commit 90 massacres. This is why he did not reach 100, meaning that the massacres should be commensurate with America’s brutality and not with Netanyahu’s well-known brutality.“ Dirani further assesses, based on their statements, that all Resistance Axis factions understand the US is complicit in the Gaza genocide and is ultimately the root cause of all tragedies, scourges, and wars in the region. Finger-pointing aside, this perception of US complicity in Gaza is growing fast in global discourse. Efforts to divest from and boycott Israel are on the rise; many of these targets are weapons factories and transport and logistics firms. If Israel proceeds with an invasion of Rafah, the repercussions could be severe, leading to the wholesale collapse of US interests in West Asia. As Yemen’s waterway blockades, Iranian strikes, and strategic military operations and salvos from Lebanon’s Hezbollah, the Palestinian resistance, and the Iraqi resistance have demonstrated, today it is the leaders of the Axis who are setting those red lines, not western powers. In a letter to President of the UN Security Council Pedro Comissario Afonso and UNSecretary General Antonio Guterres on May 7, Saeed Iravani categorically rejected the allegations that the representative of the Israeli regime has made against Iran. He said the Israeli envoy has “resorted once more to lies and misinformation to make unfounded accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran.” “Contrary to unfounded claims, Iran has consistently upheld international law, adhered to the principles of the UN Charter, and complied with UN Security Council resolutions. Moreover, Iran has played an active role in promoting international peace and security through its constructive involvement across multiple spheres,” Iravani said. “Iran made a clear position that the action taken on 13 April 2024 was conducted directly and officially from Iran in response to the Israeli recurring military aggressions, particularly its armed attack on 1 April 2024 against Iranian diplomatic premises in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Republic. Iran’s action was necessary, legitimate, and fully in line with its inherent right to self-defense under the UN Charter. The action only targeted military objectives and was carried out carefully and with prior notification to prevent civilian harm. I wish to emphasize that no resistance groups were involved in Iran’s legitimate action and any assertions to the contrary are rejected,” the envoy added. “In contrast to Israel’s assertions, Iran does not have proxies in the region, and no individual, group, or nation operates under Iran’s directive. Additionally, resistance groups are not proxies; they are legitimate groups and their actions are lawful, and engaged only in fighting against Israeli occupation and aggression in Gaza and other occupied territories in Palestine, as well as against occupied forces in other nations in the region. Therefore, Israel’s attempt to label them as ‘proxies’ is only to obscure and justify its own acts of aggression and destabilizing actions in the region,” he stated. “It is indisputable that the Israeli regime, characterized by a long history and record of blatant violations of international law, the UN Charter, and UNSC resolutions, remains the primary and longstanding threat to international peace and security. Any cynical attempt by this regime to obscure this reality through disinformation, smear campaigns, or unsubstantiated accusations against others is both futile and groundless. The Israeli regime cannot deny its direct and full responsibility for the ongoing massacre and humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza in defiance of UNSC resolutions. An obvious example of the Israeli regime’s persistent disregard for UNSC resolutions is exemplified in the Security Council’s resolution 2728 (2024), which urgently demands an immediate UNSC resolutions in the Gaza Strip. Despite clear demands from the Security Council, the occupying regime persists in its ruthless warfare against the Palestinian people and its military attacks in Rafah in blatant contempt for the Security Council’s demands,” the Iranian ambassador said. “The occupying regime must finally bear full responsibility for the consequences of its actions and the Security Council must address Israel’s persistent destabilizing and irresponsible actions, as well as its atrocities against the Palestinian people and other nations in the region. These actions pose a genuine threat to both regional and international peace and security, demanding immediate attention and decisive action from the Security Council,” he added. By MEE staff The US has found five Israeli units guilty of gross , the State Department said on Monday. The State Department said it had confirmed “individual incidents of gross violations of human rights” against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank before the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October. “After a careful process, we found five Israeli units responsible for individual incidents of gross violations of human rights. All of these were incidents much before October 7th and none took place in Gaza,” State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said Monday. “Four of these units have effectively remediated these violations, which is what we expect partners to do… For a remaining unit, we continue to be in consultations and engagements with the government of Israel.” Patel said the findings would not impact arms transfers. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had signalled that a review of Israeli military units was underway. Blinken said last week the State Department was conducting investigations under the Leahy law, which prohibits sending military aid to foreign security forces that violate human rights, adding : “I think it’s fair to say that you’ll see results very soon. I’ve made determinations. You can expect to see them in the days ahead.” ABC News reported on Friday that the Biden administration had found at least three military units guilty of human rights violations but decided not to withhold military aid to the units because it believed Israel was addressing the findings. The US has been investigating Netzah Yehuda, an ultra-Orthodox Jewish military battalion in the Israeli army, over human rights violations in the occupied West Bank. A US State Department panel recommended months ago that Blinken blacklist a number of Israeli military and police units following a review into rights abuses against Palestinians, according to a report last week in ProPublica. Lebanon – News – Story of the day – Top Hezbollah shot down an Israeli unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with a surface-to-air missile on Monday as Zionist circles consider the incident as dangerous development. In a statement, Hezbollah’s Military Media announced it had downed a medium-size Israeli Hermes 450 over the Iqlim Al-Tuffah area, near Nabatieh in south Lebanon. “In support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in reinforcement of their courageous and honorable resistance, the Islamic Resistance’s air defense unit shot down at 09:20 on Monday, February 26, 2024, an Israeli drone of Hermes 450 type with a surface-to-air missile above the area of Iqlim Al-Tuffah, and it was observed falling with the naked eye,” the statement read. “The Islamic Resistance asserts that its fighters will relentlessly surveil and counter hostile aircraft, thwarting their aggressive pursuit with unwavering determination,” the statement added. Earlier, Local media reported that an Israeli aircraft was downed in south Lebanon, with videos circulating on social media showing an aircraft on fire and spiraling out of control. Israeli media reported that sirens sounded in an industrial zone near Afula due to the launch of an interceptor missile. The Israeli occupation army then confirmed one of its drones was shot down by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. It said: “The David’s Sling medium-range air defense system successfully intercepted a surface-to-air missile fired by Hezbollah at an Israeli drone, but a short while later a second missile struck the aircraft.” Hermes 450 UAV (photo from archive) The Hermes 450 is the third largest UAV. It is an Israeli medium-sized multi-payload UAV designed for tactical long endurance missions. Made by Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems, the drone’s primary mission is reconnaissance, surveillance and communications relay. Military analyst in Israeli channel 14 said Hezbollah’s downing of an Israeli drone over the Lebanese territory is a dangerous incident. For his part, Amir Bohbot, Israeli Walla news’ defense correspondent said: “Hezbollah calmly crossing red line (by downing Israeli aircraft).” More Operations Meanwhile, Hezbollah went ahead with its pro-Gaza operations against Israeli border sites. Before dawn on Monday (at 03:10), the Islamic Resistance fighters targeted an Israeli force at Al-Baghdadi site and its vicinity with missile weapons, achieving a direct hit, a statement released by Hezbollah Military Media Center read. Another statement issued by the group announced that the Islamic Resistance fighters targeted at 12:00 on Monday an Israeli gathering in the vicinity of Hadb Yarin with missile weapons, resulting in a direct hit. Later at 12:10, the Islamic Resistance fighters targeted Israeli settlement in Shtula with missile weapons, Hezbollah’s Military Media Center said in a statement. Israeli media confirmed the strike on Shtula, reporting that an Israeli was hurt by a missile shrapnel. In the fifth Hezbollah strike for Monday, the Islamic Resistance fighters targeted at 13:15 Branit Barracks with missile weapons, achieving a direct hit, another statement read. “In response to the Zionist aggression on the outskirts of Baalbeck city in the Bekaa and the attacks on villages and civilian homes, the Islamic Resistance fighters targeted the Command headquarters of the Golan Division in Nafah with sixty Katyusha rockets at 04:00 pm on Monday, February 26, 2024.,” Hezbollah military media affirmed in its sixth statement. He covers the war in Yemen for MintPress News as well as local Yemeni media. Ahmed AbdulKareem In the courtyard of Yemen’s famous Al Shaeb Mosque, guards of honor stood at attention accompanied by the melody of military music as the funeral ceremony of Yemeni marines killed in the latest round of U.S. and UK strikes commenced. The mourners, many of whom traveled from the countryside to attend, walked alongside a long convoy carrying the bodies of 17 victims as it made its way through the streets of Sana’a. Mourners held aloft photos of the deceased or thrust their rifles into the air while chanting slogans condemning the United States. Several banners peppered the crowd, emblazoned with the label given to those who gave their lives in what many view as a struggle in defense of Palestine: “Martyrs on the road to al-Quds (Jerusalem).” Seventeen pickup trucks ensconced in green drapes bore the bodies. They were escorted by family members alongside thousands of mourners leaving Sana’a for the hometowns of the victims who hailed from various regions of Yemen. The scene unfolded last Sunday when thousands of angry Yemenis took to the streets of Sana’a and other cities to hold a funeral for those killed by the attacks. “Retribution against American soldiers… We will not abandon our revenge,” some mourners proclaimed. In Bani Matar, 70 kilometers west of Sanaa towards the Hodeida Road, the mothers of Ziad Ajlan and Hashem Al-Sawari watched the convoy from a rooftop as it carried along the bodies of their sons. Ziad and Hashem were not involved in the fighting; they were among a number of civilians killed in attacks launched by the U.S. Navy on the Yemeni mainland one week ago. My son was martyred on the road to al-Quds,” Ziad’s mother said proudly. “We will not be broken, and we will not abandon Gaza.” U.S. and British officials maintain that their attacks target “Houthi” military positions – ammunition stores and missile launch sites, but the reality of the ground tells a different story. Yemeni civilians say they are blind and indiscriminate and often leave civilians maimed or killed. Assuming the U.S. and UK are acting in good faith, it is clear that their intelligence information is lacking. A truck belonging to a farmer carrying plastic pipes was targeted in an airstrike outside the city of Saada last week. It is believed that the pipes were mistaken for missiles. This story has repeated itself ad nauseam throughout Yemen since the end of December when the multinational “Operation Prosperity Guardian” (OIR) was launched in a thus-far failed attempt to protect ships linked with Israel from Ansar Allah. This week alone, as many as 40 strikes were launched by the U.S. and the UK, most targeting the coastal city of Hodeida. Coffins of Asnar Allah fighters killed in the U.S.-led strikes on Yemen are transported during a mass funeral in Sanaa, Yemen, Feb. 10, 2024. Osamah Abdulrahman | AP THE FOG OF WAR The danger of Washington’s attacks on Yemen’s mainland lies not only in exposing civilians to danger but has the potential to spark retaliatory measures taken by Ansar Allah should pressure from the public and family members of victims continue to mount. On December 29, when U.S. forces killed 10 Yemeni sailors aboard three ships in the Red Sea, Ansar Allah refrained from retaliating. But when American and British bombs peppered mainland Yemen the next month, striking major cities with over 100 precision-guided missiles, leaving civilians dead and maimed, Ansar Allah reacted, carrying out a barrage of retaliatory attacks. Some Yemeni officials have even hinted that two U.S. Navy Seals that the U.S. government claims drowned while boarding a boat smuggling weapons into Yemen were actually killed in combat. It is not known whether the soldiers were killed in attacks by Ansar Allah ballistic missiles or drones or during a failed commando operation as the U.S. claims, but what is clear is that the U.S. is covering its losses and information about the deaths of the Seals has been highly politicized. In fact, many of the details surrounding hostilities between the U.S. and Ansar Allah have been cast in a heavy fog of war, and it will likely be years before the truth is revealed. What is certain is that Ansar Allah has caused direct material damage to U.S. military vessels, targeting numerous times with advanced missiles and drones launched. In the wake of every such attack, a statement was issued, reaffirming Ansar Allah’s right to take revenge for those killed in American and British bombing raids. On January 31, the Ansar Allah announced that the American destroyer, the USS Gravely, was hit by several anti-ship missiles. In the wake of the attack, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the Gravely had shot down an advanced anti-ship cruise missile. Later, reports emerged that the destroyer in question and other Western military assets in the area had failed to intercept the missile until it got within “4 seconds from hitting the U.S. warship.” On January 25, Ansar Allah said that it had clashed with American destroyers in the Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab for two hours. One U.S. Navy vessel was directly hit after a failed interception attempt, according to Ansar Allah, who have been improving their capabilities since 2014, after a failed Saudi-led and U.S.-backed bombing campaign left the country in tatters. This undated photograph released by CENTCOM shows the vessel that was being boarded by US Navy Seals near Yemen in a raid that saw two commandos go missing MANUFACTURING CONSENT Although President Joe Biden has repeatedly claimed that the United States does not seek to expand the war in the Middle East, the actions of the US military are undoubtedly making the situation in the Red Sea more tense. In the wake of American airstrikes targeting Hodeida on Thursday – for the ninth time that day alone, Ansar Allah Armed Forces spokesperson Brigadier Yahya Saree revealed that the group would take “further measures” within its legitimate right to self-defense in response to the repeated U.S.-UK aggression. In the same statement, Saree announced that the Barbados-flagged British Bulk Carrier ship, the LYCAVITOS, was targeted by naval missiles while sailing in the Gulf of Aden, raising questions about the actual deterrence factor of America’s escalatory approach. Prior to that, the leader of Ansar Allah, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the revolution that the U.S.-backed Yemeni government in 2014, confirmed that any escalation on Ansar Allah’s part would be against Israel and to confront American and British aggression and would not target the interests of ordinary Westerners. The comment came in response to claims circulated in the media that Ansar Allah could sabotage a network of underwater internet cables that run through the Red Sea. “We do not plan to target submarine cables, and we have no intention of doing so, and what is reported in the media is a lie aimed at distorting our humanitarian position on the war on Gaza,” he said. Many Western media outlets promoted the claim, raising fears over the safety of infrastructure critical to the functioning of the Western Internet and the transmission of financial data. Yemen is strategically located, as internet lines connecting entire continents pass near it. Airstrikes and claims that internet access may be cut off may be the tip of the escalatory iceberg, according to the government of Sana’a. The Minister of Information, Daifallah al-Shami, held a press conference on Thursday announcing that they have information that the UAE is seeking to recruit agents from multiple foreign nationalities in cooperation with Al-Qaeda and ISIS to target ships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea in order to confuse and distort operations carried out by Ansar Allah in support of Gaza. According to al-Shami, the move is supported by the U.S. “WE WILL NOT ABANDON GAZA” Contrary to what is being promoted in much of the Western media, which has taken the line that Ansar Allah’s Red Sea blockade has nothing to do with the ongoing genocide in Gaza, a review of the targets of Ansar Allah’s attacks makes their motivations clear. On October 19, Ansar Allah fired drones and missiles at Israel’s southern Eliat Port. In mid-November, the naval forces seized an Israeli ship headed towards occupied Palestine. Shortly after, Ansar Allah publically announced that the Israeli-linked ship would not be allowed to pass through the Baba al-Mandab Strait. Later, they announced that the ban on shipping would extend to all vessels attempting to reach Eliat Port. All of these measures were in support of a single, repeatedly declared goal, which was to pressure Israel to stop its war on Gaza and allow food and water to enter the besieged strip. With visible sadness and anger, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi enumerated in a televised speech on Tuesday the reasons that motivate Yemen to continue operations to prevent international navigation supporting Israel in the Red Sea – the continued mass killing of the Gazans, renewed American support for Israel, including with lethal weapons and the use of internationally banned weapons against civilians in Gaza, including white phosphorus. Al-Houthi said that “the Yemeni military’s retaliatory strikes in the Red Sea had proven to be effective as it led to the almost complete closure of the port of Umm al-Rashrash (the name of Eliat before Israel annexed it), and all food supply chains to Israel that were passing through the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab stopped by 70%, and prices in the Israeli market rose by 30-50% after ships were forced to divert course through the Cape of Good Hope.” Israel, he noted, was one of the largest beneficiaries of maritime trade, with imports in 2022 reaching to $133 billion “thanks to the Red Sea.” Responding to those who question the feasibility of Ansar Allah’s position, Al-Houthi said that “Yemeni operations have caused repercussions for ship insurance,” noting that insurers are now refusing to insure ships heading towards the ports of occupied Palestine. “Not only that,” he added, “but insurance companies require Israeli and American ships to pay additional amounts of up to 50%.” “Our operations at sea led to a decline in Israel’s total imports of products by 25% during the past months,” Al-Houthi said, “The Israeli Ministry of Economy and Industry admitted that the Red Sea operations harmed its trade relations with 14 countries.” Amid threats of escalation and even whispers of a Western-led ground invasion of Yemen, Ansar Allah has reiterated its commitment to its mission. Mobilization, military training, demonstrations, and other activities will be continued as long as the aggression against Gaza continues, it has reaffirmed, saying that operations at sea will continue until Israel “allows food and medical supplies and the delivery of basic needs into Gaza.” “The U.S. and UK will not achieve their goals through aggression against our country, and the only solution is to stop the aggression and deliver food and medicine to the people of Gaza,” Al-Houthi vowed. Nasrallah Speeches – Top Areej Fatima El-Husseini Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah underscored on Sunday the profound parallels between the events of the Karbala epic on Ashura and the ongoing brutal massacres perpetrated by the Zionist enemy in Gaza today. In a speech on the first eve of Muharram, Sayyed Nasrallah highlighted that this year’s Ashura carries a distinctly different atmosphere from previous years, amidst ongoing conflicts in Gaza and southern Lebanon, with daily reports of martyrs and wounded. Ashura marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), in the tragic events of Karbala, Iraq. Spiritual Preparation for Sacrifice Speaking of Ashura’s spiritual influence, Sayyed Nasrallah emphasized that the substantial attendance during last year’s Ashura nights across Lebanon had readied Hezbollah’s community and fighters to take a resolute stance in opening the front against Israel in support of Gaza. It is noteworthy that Operation Al-Aqsa Flood began approximately two months after Ashura 2023. Sayyed Nasrallah affirmed that “the righteousness of the Palestinian cause and the brutality of the Israeli occupation are crystal clear and beyond debate.” “The massacres in the Gaza Strip are unprecedented; anyone who ignores what is happening there is devoid of compassion, reason, and humanity,” Sayyed Nasrallah added. Are we not on the right path? In relation to the ongoing battles on the southern Lebanese front in support of Gaza resistance and people, Sayyed Nasrallah said, “Our responsibility is to uphold the truth, even as we endure accusations, skepticism, and belittlement over the past nine months. In this ongoing struggle amidst the Al-Aqsa flood, as time marches on and our valiant fighters age, our message to the world, allies, and foes remains resolute: we remain steadfast on the righteous path, undeterred by death.” Sayyed Hasan’s resolute words were imbued with the essence of Ashura 2024’s motto: “Are we not on the path of righteousness?” This slogan underscores the unwavering preparedness to sacrifice oneself, land, and home in the pursuit of justice and the defeat of tyranny. The espionage cells working for the United States in Yemen are part of a larger plot to penetrate societies and incite corruption, the leader of the Ansar Allah movement, Sayyed Abdul Malik al-Houthi, said in a statement on Sunday, adding that a new espionage network has been uncovered in Yemen, with details to be revealed soon. Al-Houthi said the recruitment to treason exists under the umbrella of soft war, revealing that Israeli committees and parties have been instating changes in Arab curricula. In a speech on the Islamic New Year, Sayyed al-Houthi congratulated the Yemeni people, their defenders, the Islamic Ummah, and the people of Palestine, specifically the Palestinian Resistance fighters, affirming that the beginning of the year brings work toward forming a new government and regulating the judiciary. Al-Houthi clarified that the formation of a new government has taken time because it requires constant work and follow-up, specifically when purifying state institutions. He explained that certain official establishments are infested with agents working to thwart, cripple, and corrupt the flow of operations. Stressing the need for national cooperation and understanding of the requirements for the right path and change, while referring to working under complex circumstances and amid aggression and confrontations against the American, British, Israeli, and their Arab and internal collaborators, the Yemeni leader stressed that the war was not solely military, but social, economic, and political as well. MULTI-FRONT FAILURES FOR THE US Sayyed al-Houthi emphasized that the US was stunned by Yemen’s naval and missile tactics, as well as its production, and considered that should learn from it, noting that these tactics overtook the enemy’s advanced technology and methods. He further highlighted that the US tried to scare other countries with its aircraft carriers, and tried to use them to press and instill a sense of self-defeat among these nations. When aircraft carriers arrive in the Gulf, al-Houthi noted, Arab leaders and officials fall back on anything the US does not want. In light of the operation to support Gaza, US aircraft carriers lost their influence and became targets for the Yemeni Armed Forces, with their missions transforming into escape ones, rather than attacks. RELATED NEWS * US presidential candidates competing to appease ‘Israel’: Al-Houthi * US pier used to deliver destruction to Gaza, al-Houthi says The Yemeni leader considered that the Europeans tried to handle US pressures wisely, with some interfering for defense purposes only and partaking in operations to intercept Yemeni drones without bombing Yemen. The countries that operated with full wiseness, however, were those that directly coordinated with Yemen rather than being complicit in the Red Sea campaign, which is why their maritime navigation activities were unaffected, with their ships safely sailing through the waters. Al-Houthi added that the US failed to implicate countries ashore on the Red Sea in backing the Israeli occupation, emphasizing that it also failed to exploit Arab nations and neighboring countries in the aggression against Yemen. ON SAUDI COMPLICITY WITH THE US, “ISRAEL” Moreover, Sayyed al-Houthi said the US was still trying to implicate the Saudi regime after its military failure, revealing that Saudi Arabia was threatened with being pushed into hostility, amid several American-Saudi visits relating to the issue. Economic damage is the Americans’ focal tactic, according to al-Houthi, because it affects the entirety of the population, who further said threatening to transfer banks from Sanaa as a pressure tactic was “insane and foolish, and no one in the world thinks this way.” He stressed that the American knows the negative impact of transferring banks on the Yemeni people’s living conditions, their currency, and prices in the country and that the Saudi regime took this step in service of “Israel” and obedience to the United States, and there is no other justification for it. Al-Houthi pointed out that Saudi Arabia did not retract its decision despite the advice and warnings, and after transferring the banks, it moved to disable Sanaa’s airport and stop flights despite its limitations and narrow margin, noting that “Israel” the US, and the UK, did not end their incitements and demanded that Saudi Arabia shut the port. “We will not stand idly by in the face of their absurd moves and watch our people starve and their economic situation collapse,” al-Houthi affirmed, stressing that being preoccupied with the direct battle to support Gaza does not mean inaction regarding the issue. Sayyed Al-Houthi drew out an equation, that “everything would be met with the same”, explaining that “banks are banks, Riyadh airport is Sanaa airport, and ports are ports,” placing what Yemen will do within the framework of confronting the aggression and confronting the Americans, stressing that the Yemeni people are patient because they are confident that there is an important battle and because they have preferred the Palestinian people over themselves and their issues. The Ansar Allah leader also confirmed ongoing discussions in Oman regarding a prisoner exchange with the Saudi-backed Yemeni government in Sanaa, highlighting the efforts and keenness to achieve success and begin the exchange of the second batch, but noted that the coalition does not want to take a step that would anger “Israel”. Al-Houthi recalled that the Saudi regime is detaining Hamas members in its prisons, and criminalizing the movement’s stance against the occupation. He also mentioned the regime’s rejection of a Yemeni offer to release its pilots in exchange for Hamas prisoners. (AP) Listen By Al Mayadeen English Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert calls for the dissolution of the government and the need to reach a prisoner exchange agreement. Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has called for the overthrow of the current occupation government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He emphasized the urgent need to end the war on Gaza, noting that “Hamas managed to survive after nine months of fighting.” Olmert had previously criticized the decision to evacuate settlements in northern occupied Palestine, describing it as “hysterical” and attributing it to the state of panic within Netanyahu’s government. In an interview with Israeli Channel 12, Olmert described the current government as one that “does not know what to do and is unable to make decisions.” He emphasized that the administration operates without strategic planning or preparation and lacks a clear understanding of the objectives necessary to end the war. BEN-GVIR THREATENS TO DISSOLVE CABINET Two days earlier, the Israeli Mako news website reported that the conflict between Netanyahu and Gallant is just one of many the premier has had with his ruling coalition members. RELATED NEWS * Blinken to discuss Gaza ‘day after’, de-escalation with Gallant * Thousands of Israeli settlers demand a new government The website revealed that Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir threatened Netanyahu he “would be left alone” if he was not included in crucial discussions about the ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal. Ben-Gvir said during a cabinet session, “I know the real meeting will be held immediately after us.” “We are here as a decoration, and after we finish – you and Gallant will sit down with the heads of the security establishment and wrap things up,” he added. ISRAELI FAILURE PUSHES REVIVAL OF CEASEFIRE TALKS In a related context, the Wall Street Journal wrote that a shift in Israeli battlefield calculations has led analysts to conclude that the Israeli military and security establishment is pushing the Netanyahu-led Israeli government to finalize a deal with the Palestinian Resistance. “Time is passing and all sides are realizing that time is not working in their favor, especially the Israeli side,” said Ofer Shelah, a former Israeli lawmaker and military analyst with the “Israeli Institute for National Security Studies” (INSS), as quoted by WSJ. On that note, talks of the positive atmosphere surrounding ceasefire talks and a prisoner exchange deal in the Gaza Strip, spurred by recent feedback submitted by Hamas to mediators, have taken center stage in discussions of the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza. However, Hamas’ positive feedback has not been the only factor influencing the revival of ceasefire talks, as the movement has been positive and flexible throughout the mediated negotiations process. (Military Media of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon) Listen By Al Mayadeen English The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon announced that its Resistance fighters carried out three operations against Israeli military sites in support of Gaza and in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanon. The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon – Hezbollah announced on Saturday a new series of operations against the Israeli military sites and soldiers along the border with occupied Palestine. In a statement, Hezbollah announced that its Resistance fighters launched an aerial attack using a swarm of suicide drones on the artillery position of the 403rd Battalion of the 91st Brigade in Beit Hillel, which attacked Lebanese villages and people on Friday. The group confirmed that the attack hit its targets accurately, causing fires to break out. The statement pointed out that the operation was in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable Resistance, and in response to the Israeli attacks on the steadfast southern Lebanese villages, safe homes, and civilians. Later, Hezbollah said that its fighters bombarded at 5:25 pm the Israeli Roueissat al-Alam site in the occupied Lebanese Kfar Chouba Hills with rocket weapons, hitting it directly. In a related context, Hezbollah also mourned its Resistance fighter Maytham Mustafa al-Attar “Hadi”, born in 1991 in the town of Chaat in the Bekaa, who was martyred on the path to occupied al-Quds. Al Mayadeen‘s correspondent in Lebanon had reported that an Israeli drone targeted a car on the Baalbek – Qaa highway at the Chaat junction. Earlier, our correspondent in southern Lebanon reported that Israeli artillery shelling targeted the outskirts of the towns of Maroun al-Ras, al-Naqoura, and the outskirts of Yaroun. He also mentioned that Israeli airstrikes also targeted the town of Houla and the outskirts of Odaisseh. (Photo Credit: The Cradle) Shivan Mahendrarajah > There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there > are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not > know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don’t know we don’t > know. — Former US secretary of defense, Donald Rumsfeld As tensions escalate between Hezbollah and Israel, analysts are meticulously wargaming potential conflict scenarios. For Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his religious-nationalist coalition, a confrontation with the Lebanese resistance movement is more than speculation – it is a strategic consideration. This coalition views a potential war as a means to address longstanding security concerns and strengthen its political position. A key part of Tel Aviv’s strategic thinking is the hope that the US might be forced into taking a more active role in confronting Israel’s adversaries – Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran – thereby neutralizing threats that have persisted for decades. This concept of “clearing the decks” of regional enemies remains a central theme in Israeli strategic discussions. Historical roots of Israel’s strategic confidence For the occupation state, this potential conflict is a “war of choice” driven by historical and ethnonationalist motivations. But it is also premised on past Israeli military advantages that are long gone in today’s missile-laden West Asia. The Six-Day War of 1967 fostered a belief in the invincibility of the Israeli military, the superiority of Zionism, and the manifest destiny of its ‘chosen people.’ It was with similar hubris that Adolf Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa against the Soviet Union in 1941. Fast forward eight decades, and today, Israelis are informing US officials “that it can pull off a ‘blitzkrieg’” in Lebanon. In 1967, the psychological impact on neighboring Arab states was profound due to the decisive defeat of their armies. This sentiment persisted until 2006, when Lebanon’s Hezbollah emerged politically victorious, shattering the perception of Israeli invulnerability and altering regional power dynamics. Further shaping Israeli delusions of military superiority is the ethnonationalist rhetoric prevalent in Tel Aviv’s policy decision-making circles, embodied by extremist ministers like Betzalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, who have revived the ideologies of the once-banned Meir Kahane. While a few sober military voices in Israel advocate for a diplomatic solution to the northern border crisis, hubris and ethnonationalism currently dominate the discourse. Strategic imperatives for Hezbollah and Iran Conversely, for Hezbollah and Iran, this conflict is a “war of necessity,” something neither can publicly admit nor provoke directly. Both have been marginalized and sanctioned by the US on Israel’s behalf, causing untold domestic pressures and economic hardships – an untenable situation that demands a direct challenge of Israeli policies. But reversing sanctions cannot happen at the negotiating table. Israelis are arrogant and obstinate; they will not negotiate in good faith. Take, for example, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or the Iran nuclear deal. When former US president Barack Obama finalized the agreement, Netanyahu whined that Israel needed “compensation.” Obama offered Israel a military package, but as soon as he left office, Netanyahu, Jared Kushner, and AIPAC manipulated the “very stable genius,” former president Donald Trump. JCPOA was annulled. The compensation package, by the by, was not returned to US taxpayers. Iran–Hezbollah must drag Israel to the edge of the precipice. Tel Aviv must stare into the abyss and realize that with a gentle push by the region’s Resistance Axis, it will lie mangled at the bottom of the chasm. Iran–Hezbollah, however, cannot push it over the edge, as this could lead to a nuclear nightmare. Today, in its “war of choice,” Israel has already hinted at using “unprecedented” and “unspecified” weapons against Hezbollah, implying a possible nuclear threat. The Axis must instead show Israel a path back from the edge: a treaty that settles outstanding concerns. Tehran offered Tel Aviv and Washington a “Grand Bargain” in 2003 but was rejected. A new grand bargain is indispensable for Israel and the Axis of Resistance, yet the conditio sine qua non for a lasting treaty is Israel’s military defeat by the Axis. The threats and counter-threats are flying, each aiming to gain “leverage” and deterrence. Earlier this month, Iranian foreign affairs adviser to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Kamal Kharrazi, said that were Israel to launch an all-out offensive against Hezbollah, the Islamic Republic and other factions of the Axis of Resistance would support Lebanon with “all means” necessary. Iran has previously warned that it may be compelled to revise its nuclear doctrine in response to Israeli aggression. It is suspected that Iran may have already crossed the nuclear threshold. Even without nuclear capabilities, Iran has the ballistic missile and warhead capabilities to destroy Tel Aviv, Haifa, and other major cities. Israel is a “one-bomb country”: it is minuscule, and its population is concentrated in a few central hubs. Iran and the Axis do not have any need for multiple nuclear warheads. As General Hajizadah explained in a speech, the Khorramshahr missile can deliver 80 warheads. If the IRGC launched 100 missiles, that’s 8,000 warheads on major Israeli cities. Israel would be foolish to trust in its integrated air defense system after the IRGC’s successful strikes on 13 April. 2024 is not 2006 Comparing the potential 2024 conflict with the 2006 Israel–Hezbollah war is a popular frame of reference, but both sides have learned lessons since then. In particular, there have been significant advancements in military technology and tactics over the past 18 years. Hezbollah has developed new tactics and weapons, such as the Almas Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM), which has proven effective against Israeli military assets. Additionally, Hezbollah’s air defense capabilities have posed new challenges for Israeli drone offensives. The Israeli air force ruled the skies in 2006, but whether it can do so in 2024 is unclear. Hezbollah has air defense capacity (such as the Sayyad-2 medium-range surface-to-air missile). It is not known if it has newer models, like Iran’s Khordad-3. This could be a surprise. Israeli intelligence assessments of Hezbollah’s capabilities are likely to be imprecise. Past successes against groups like the PLO and Black September are no longer relevant. Recent failures, such as Tel Aviv’s inability to foresee Hamas Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on 7 October, underscore the limitations of Israeli intelligence. US involvement This has been Israel’s objective since 9/11: have Americans fight Israel’s wars. Although Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Charles Brown stated that the US may be unable to assist Israel, this must not be taken as a serious military assessment. It is a political statement on behalf of the Biden Administration, which does not want to join a major war until after the 5 November election. Netanyahu, however, knows that Israel controls Congress and American media. Congressman Thomas Massie is the exception, among 435 Representatives and 100 Senators, who AIPAC has not bought. Once war begins, Israel’s minions in the White House, media, and Congress will campaign for US military participation. As Netanyahu said, “I know what America is. America is a thing you can move very easily; move it in the right direction.” He is correct. If the US intervenes – a high-probability event – Hezbollah and Iran will (reluctantly) welcome it. For the Axis to secure a “Grand Bargain,” it must inflict catastrophic damage on US land-based and sea-based assets in West Asia. Washington will only abandon Israel if ships, bases, and hundreds (or thousands) of American lives are destroyed because of Israel. Russia Russia is a wildcard, a “known unknown.” The US security apparatus warring against Russia and supporting Israel is top-heavy with Zionists/neo-cons. Iran’s enemies and Israel’s enemies are nearly congruent: Victoria Kagan née Nuland; Kagan family (Robert, Fred, Kim, their ISW); Antony Blinken (grandson of a founder of Israel); Avril Haines (Director of National Intelligence); deputy director CIA David Cohen, Alejandro Mayorkas (Secretary of DHS), and more. It behooves Russia to punish its tormentors by damaging the only country to which they are loyal: Israel. Moscow has been chafing at US support for Ukraine. Elena Panina, Director of the Institute of International Political and Economic Strategies, wrote on her Telegram channel in December 2023, “The best option for Russia is to respond to America in a similar way: with a hybrid war far from its own borders. The most obvious at the moment is a proxy attack on American forces in the Middle East.” In May 2024, Putin said the same thing. Terror attacks in Belgorod and in Sevastopol on a religious holiday may tip the scales in favor of Iran, especially if the US jumps into the fray. Defeating the US will increase popular support for Russia among global Muslims and help eject the US from West Asia – a goal supported by Russia and China. Iran is “too big to fail”: Moscow has made military and economic investments and alliances with Tehran, particularly after the Ukraine War began, and is on the cusp of signing a new comprehensive cooperation agreement with Tehran. The Kremlin cannot allow Iran to be defeated and the republic to collapse. It will most likely provide intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support through Russian satellites and aircraft in Syria. Russia allows IRGC to use its Humaymim/Khmeimim air base in Syria because IDF tries to prevent supplies from Iran from arriving at airports in Aleppo and Damascus. Russia could (if not already, given recent air traffic between Russia and the air base) deliver air defense batteries, missiles, and more for the Syrian Army and Hezbollah. Unknown unknowns The factors outlined above, along with China and North Korea’s investments in and relationships with Iran, complicate any predictions about the looming war between Israel and the Lebanese resistance. While their direct military participation is unlikely, these nuclear powers could supply Iran with essential weapons and ammunition. The “known unknowns,” a few of which are noted, are enough to complicate wargaming, but the “unknown unknowns” may render such scenarios moot. The same sources also reported that Hamas has once again accepted China’s invitation for another round of national Palestinian talks. Additionally, they indicated that the Fatah movement is seeking another meeting with the Hamas delegation before proceeding to expanded talks, while Hamas intends to build upon the outcomes of the previous talks. Al Mayadeen‘s sources further stated that while no specific date has been set for the national dialogue in Beijing, 14 Palestinian factions are slated to participate. HAMAS-FATAH MEETING IN CHINA INCLUDED TALKS FOR TEMPORARY GOVERNMENT Back in April, the two factions agreed during bilateral talks in Bejing on the importance of unifying the Palestinian position regarding the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza, emphasizing the importance of a ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from the Strip. RELATED NEWS At the time, Palestinian sources revealed to Al Mayadeen the outcomes of the meeting held between the two Palestinian factions, Hamas and Fatah, in the Chinese capital Beijing. The factions further agreed on “coordinating joint national efforts to deliver urgent aid and relief to the sector and to arrange with the relevant parties in Gaza,” and forming a joint bilateral committee in Cairo for coordination and follow-up, as per our sources. According to the sources, the meeting emphasized coordinating positions and efforts in the West Bank and al-Quds to confront settler attacks on villages and towns, as well as Israeli occupation assaults on the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The outcomes of the meeting also stressed the priority of the detainees’ issue and the necessity to preserve their rights and support them during this difficult phase, where they are subjected to the worst forms of abuse and harm inside Israeli occupation prisons On another note, the sources reported from the meeting that Hamas and Fatah affirmed the necessity of unity and ending the division, “within the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization by joining all Palestinian forces and factions within it and its institutions, based on previous agreements in this regard.” The parties also highlighted the importance of forming a non-factional national unity government during or after the genocidal war, tasked with its technical and administrative duties in relief efforts, alleviating the effects of aggression, and rebuilding Gaza. China was one of the first countries to call for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza to prevent a humanitarian crisis, calling on “Israel” to lift the blockade imposed on the Strip to ensure the entry of much-needed aid, respect international humanitarian law, and stop targeting all civilian objects and aid workers in Gaza.
