gives these insurance companies an “A/Excellent” rating for financial stability,
3rd highest out of 13 ratings.

At The General, we provide auto insurance coverage even for the high-risk
drivers that other insurance companies won’t insure. Many insurers do not cover
drivers who found themselves without insurance for six months or more, but
that’s not an issue at The General. We know that not everyone has perfect credit
or an outstanding driving record, but they still need car insurance.


HOW LONG HAS THE GENERAL INSURANCE BEEN IN BUSINESS?

The General opened for business in 1963. We’ve grown enormously since then but
still retain our core value of providing all drivers with affordable coverage.

trust us to help them in what is sometimes among the most difficult times in

HOW MUCH DOES THE GENERAL CAR INSURANCE COST?

How much you’ll pay for car insurance depends on several factors, and no two
people are alike. Get a free, no-obligation quote and find out what we can do
for you. The General car insurance quote requires your ZIP Code, (which reveals
your local accident rate), and other personal information such as your age,
credit history, and family insurance exclusions.

If you decide to buy a policy after getting your online quote, we'll need the
following for all drivers & vehicles in your household to give you a specific
premium amount:

 * Address
 * Driver’s license number
 * Vehicle identification number

If you like your quote—and you almost surely will—you can go ahead and buy your
policy online. Choose your payment method and submit the application with a
click or a touch. Just print out the insurance card, and you’re good to go!


WHAT STATES DOES THE GENERAL CAR INSURANCE COVER?

You can buy The General insurance in 46 states and Washington, D.C. How much
you’ll pay for car insurance slightly depends on the state you live in. We
provide policies for drivers in both fault and no-fault states. In fault states,
or tort states, those injured in an accident caused by a driver can sue for
damages from the at-fault party. In a no-fault state, each driver’s insurance
company pays for their medical bills and lost wages after an accident, unless
the injuries are significant.

Generally, if you live in a city, expect to pay more in premiums than if you
lived in a rural area. Places with higher amounts of traffic have more
collisions.

There are also different state requirements when it comes to minimum amounts of
car insurance you are required to carry. Most people should buy more than the
minimum amount if they can afford it. Additional insurance protects your
personal assets in case of a serious crash.


WHAT TYPES OF INSURANCE DOES THE GENERAL OFFER?

The General offers a full range of coverage options. Every driver must buy the
minimum amount of liability coverage required by their state. Liability
insurance pays for damage you caused by the at-fault driver to people and
vehicles. It does not pay for your medical expenses, lost wages, or car repairs.

If your car is leased or you still owe payments on it, the lessor or lender is
going to require you to carry collision and comprehensive car insurance. Even if
you own your car, you might still want this coverage if you can’t afford to
replace it after a crash.

Comprehensive coverage pays for damage caused by anything other than a
collision. This might include theft, vandalism, hail or a tree falling on the
car.


DOES THE GENERAL CAR INSURANCE HAVE FULL COVERAGE?

Yes, The General auto insurance offers full coverage for drivers. Full coverage
means the driver wants more than just liability coverage. Full coverage includes
not only comprehensive and collision insurance, but uninsured or underinsured
motorist insurance.

While most states don’t require you to buy uninsured or underinsured motorist
coverage, it’s a good idea. Auto insurance agents must offer you this option in
most states. There are too many uninsured or underinsured drivers on the roads,
and getting into an accident with one can really hurt you financially without
this type of coverage.

How much coverage you’ll need depends on your personal situation. If you have
assets, such as a house or investments, you want to make sure you have enough
insurance in case of a serious crash. Otherwise, you could lose these assets in
a lawsuit. If you don’t have much in the way of assets, you won’t need as much
insurance, but you must carry the minimum amount of insurance required to
legally operate a vehicle in your state.
