Skip to content DHAAGA SAARANG SHOPPER-STYLIST-WRITER Menu * Home * About STRIPTEASE Image | March 21, 2016March 21, 2016 | shiralishah For over a thousand years, since after textile and clothing were invented, every human has been taught that first impressions are always based on what you’re wearing. And now, in today’s age, right after the birth of a child, we immediately clad it in blue or pink to identify the gender. “You have an interview. Are you decided on what you’ll be wearing?” “Why are you dressed this way? We have a dinner to go to!” “That person looks homeless.” Dressing right for the occasion, dressing right according to your stature and basically anything that has to do with putting on clothes, has been assumed, embedded into us and forced upon as “super important“. A person is most definitely judged about his personality, profession, society, class and culture by his clothing and appearence. (Funny, coming from a personal stylist.) BUT, HOW OFTEN ARE OUR ASSUMPTIONS REALLY TRUE? THE SARI SAGA THE CORPORATE CHARMER THE SOUL SEEKER We always see what we want to see. And what we see is what they choose to show. Do not judge by appearences. A rich heart may be under a poor coat and a domestic abuser may get down from a shiny limousine. By judging on appearence alone, we deny the uniqueness of every person built on the foundation of thier image. As you know, looks can be deceiving. Good or bad, we do not know their story. Stop judging. Start loving. {*conditions apply} My breathtaking muse: Gitanjali Kaji Shot by the exceptional: Devansh Jhaveri Make-Up courtesy: Rupal Shah Styling, concept and direction by yours truly, SHIRALI SHAH #ASHTAG HANDBOOK July 16, 2015July 16, 2015 | shiralishah #TRIVIA The hashtag’s widespread use began with Twitter but has extended to other social media platforms now. In 2007, developer Chris Messina proposed, in a tweet, that Twitter begin grouping topics using the hash symbol. Twitter initially rejected the idea. But that same year in October, citizen journalists began using the hashtag #SanDiegoFire, at Messina’s suggestion, to tweet updates on a series of forest fires in San Diego. The practice of hashtagging took off; now users and brands employ hashtags to cover serious political events and entertainment topics alike. Hashtags are such a prominent part of tech culture today that it’s rare to find anyone who doesn’t know what they are. In fact, the hashtag is so recognized that it was added to the Oxford dictionary. in 2010, and the Scrabble Dictionary earlier this year (#standards). Yet even as most people have come to know what they are, many people still don’t understand how to use hashtags. Once your phone’s pound sign, hashtags now have a place on most popular social networks, including Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Vine and Pinterest. The hashtag is likely the most popular means of categorizing content on social media. It makes your own content discoverable and allows you to find relevant content from other people and businesses. The hashtag also allows you to connect with and engage other social media users based on a common theme or interest. WHICH NETWORKS SUPPORT HASHTAGS? Twitter: The network that brought us the hashtag is the most popular site to use it on. You can find the trending topics on the left hand side of your Twitter stream. Facebook: Clicking a hashtag on Facebook will bring you to a separate page with posts that are visible to you based on the various users’ privacy settings. You’ll also see the different trending topics in the top right hand corner of your News Feed. Instagram: Hashtagging on Instagram is great if you want to see photos similar to the ones that you’ve taken. Simply hashtag the picture you took and it will create a link to a page with other pictures of the same subject. Google+: Google+ uses hashtags similar to the other sites, but with one main difference. Google+ will add hashtags to content if they think that it is a relevant and popular keyword. You can always opt-out of this through Google+ if you’d like. Tumblr: When you’re creating a post on your Tumblr page, you’ll see an area at the bottom asking you to add “tags.” When you start to type a tag for your post, Tumblr will automatically add a hashtag to the front of it. Pinterest: The main thing that you need to bear in mind when creating hashtags on Pinterest is that they’re only clickable in a Pin description. Also, hashtags aren’t searchable on Pinterest, so you’ll need to just search the keyword to find the content. DO’S AND DON’TS Using a hashtag in a social post is as simple as adding the ‘#’ sign before a single word or phrase without spaces or punctuation. First and foremost, hashtags on all social networks have the same fundamental purpose of content tagging and discovery, the use of hashtags still varies by network. If your account on Instagram and Twitter is private, hashtags don’t matter. Yes, we still do put them because we love hashtags! I do too. But there are a few people out there who need serious hashtag education! Here are way’s you could get your hashtag game on point. 1) Don’t string too many words together with a single hashtag. #PartyArrangements makes sense. But #doingvodkashotstonight, does not! Be smart with your hashtags. 2) A hashtag must be written as a single word, without any spaces. #NewYorkCity not #New #York #City. 3) You can include numbers in a hashtag, but punctuation and special characters (like &, -, $ and %) won’t work. #H&M will only show as #H because the ‘&’ will break the hashtag. Similarly, #100% won’t work. Even an apostrophe won’t work. 4) Uppercase letters will not alter your search results. Like #bestfriendsforlife or #BestFriendsForLife will be grouped under one topic. 5) Don’t #spam #with #hashtags. #Don’t #over-tag #a #single #sentence. Irritating isn’t it? #i #love #my #new #dress #thank #you #mom does not make sense! Instead – #newdress #loveit #giftfrommom, are what you should use. You are not supposed to tag prepositions or pronouns! I have seen people literally go -#days#like#these. *rolling eyes* 6) A hashtag is supposed to be put before the word and not after it. notsosmart# 7) Try and use a space between every hashtag you use. #love#friends#life. Yes they work as separate topics but, it looks really messy. Always put spaces in between. 8) Cater hashtags to the social network you’re using. In terms of use, Instagram hashtags, for example, are often more focused on description of the photo and the tools used to take it than on a broader story or theme. This is at odds with Twitter, where hashtags tend to be more focused a topic of conversation, or a group of people who you would like to engage. 9) Try and come up with your own but relevant hashtags. It might just start trending! The new trend I see is wedding hashtags. Which I feel is a pretty cool idea. #XwedsY is a smart way to get all your wedding pictures in one place. 10) Don’t have more hashtags than words. It’s nice to put up a little write-up and then use 3-5 hashtags per picture. Yes if your profile is public on Instagram, more hashtags get your more followers. But most of them, I bet are irrelevant spammers. If you’re tweeting. put the two most relevant tags. 11) If you’re a brand, keep your hashtag unbranded. A brand name as a hashtag looks too in the face and unnecessary. Lot’s of brands, shows, celebrities and even single entities are responsible for giving out hashtags which turn into major trends. A few examples – Fast Track #MoveOn, Narendra Modi #ChaiPeCharcha, Flipkart #AchhaKiya. News channels, TV shows, movies previews, talk shows etc. all of them have their twitter handle and hashtag mentioned on the screen while on air for live tweeting. 12) Don’t go too long or too clever. If you are aiming for a higher reach, use a hashtag that people might relate too. Something which is short, smart and doesn’t make people lazy half way through writing it. 13) You can search for a hashtag using the search bar at the top of any page. > Here’s to hoping for a hashtag-friendly world! May your hashtags be on fleek! SHIRALI SHAH HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR SKIRTS? December 23, 2014December 23, 2014 | shiralishah A BASIC GUIDE ON THE TYPES OF SKIRTS WITH A BRIEF DETAIL FOR EACH.
