A new bug is causing the Messages app to crash under very specific circumstances, leaving users frustrated. Fortunately, it’s not something everyone will encounter—but if you do, here’s what you need to know. THE BUG: WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH MESSAGES? The glitch occurs when a user sends an Apple Watch face via the Messages app. When the recipient replies to that message, both users suddenly find the Messages app becoming unusable. Each time you attempt to open the app, it crashes immediately, leaving you unable to access your conversations. HOW TO AVOID THE ISSUE If you’ve recently updated to iOS 18 and want to avoid this headache, the solution is simple: don’t share Apple Watch faces through Messages until Apple releases a fix. The bug doesn’t affect other types of message content, so you should be safe sending texts, photos, or videos without worry. Read Danger in Space: The Untold Story of Zarya But what if you’ve already encountered this issue? Unfortunately, once the bug hits, the only way to regain control of your Messages app is to delete the conversation that caused the problem. While it’s not an ideal fix, it will at least get your app back up and running. SIMILAR ISSUES ON IPADOS 18 Interestingly, this isn’t the only hiccup since the release of iOS 18. A similar bug has been reported on iPadOS 18, particularly affecting iPad Pro M4 models, preventing some users from even downloading the update. Apple has yet to address this specific issue fully but is likely working on a solution. WHAT’S NEXT FOR IOS 18? Despite these bumps, iOS 18 remains one of the most anticipated updates from Apple, especially with the introduction of Apple Intelligence. The company is expected to roll out a patch to address these bugs soon, so users can enjoy all the benefits of the latest software without the current frustrations. Apple is known for its quick turnaround on bug fixes, so relief should be on the way soon. 4.6/5 - (27 votes) Smith Noah My name is Noah and I’m a dedicated member of the “Jason Deegan” team.
