HYUNDAI, KIA RECALL OVER 208,000 ELECTRIC VEHICLES TO FIX PROBLEM THAT CAN CAUSE
LOSS OF POWER

 * Nov 22, 2024
 *

Hyundai and Kia are recalling over 208,000 electric vehicles to fix a pesky
problem that can cause loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. The
recalls cover more than 145,000 Hyundai and Genesis vehicles including the 2022
through 2024 Ioniq 5, the 2023 through 2025 Ioniq 6, GV60 and GV70, and the 2023
and 2024 G80. Also included are nearly 63,000 Kia EV 6 vehicles from 2022
through 2024. The affiliated Korean automakers say in government documents that
a transistor in a charging control unit can be damaged and stop charging the
12-volt battery. Dealers will inspect and replace the control unit and a fuse if
needed. They also will update software.

NATO AND UKRAINE TO HOLD EMERGENCY TALKS AFTER RUSSIA'S ATTACK WITH NEW
HYPERSONIC MISSILE

 * Nov 22, 2024
 *

NATO and Ukraine will hold emergency talks Tuesday after Russia attacked a
central city with a hypersonic ballistic missile that escalated the nearly
33-month-old war.  Ukraine's parliament canceled a session Friday over the
security threat. In a stark warning to the West, President Vladimir Putin said
in a nationally televised speech Thursday that the attack with the
intermediate-range Oreshnik missile was retaliation for Kyiv’s use of U.S. and
British longer-range missiles capable of striking deeper into Russian territory.
Putin said Russia is launching production of the Oreshnik, saying it's so
powerful that several of them fitted with conventional warheads could be as
devastating as a strike with strategic — or nuclear — weapons.

BITCOIN TICKS CLOSER TO $100,000 IN EXTENDED SURGE FOLLOWING US ELECTIONS

 * Nov 22, 2024
 *

Bitcoin is jumping again, setting another new high above $99,000. The
cryptocurrency has been shattering records almost daily since the U.S.
presidential election, and has rocketed more than 40% higher in just two weeks.
It's now at the doorstep of $100,000. Cryptocurrencies and related investments
like crypto exchange-traded funds have rallied because the incoming Trump
administration is expected to be more “crypto-friendly.” Still, as with
everything in the volatile cryptoverse, the future is hard to predict. And while
some are bullish, other experts continue to warn of investment risks.

US REGULATORS SEEK TO BREAK UP GOOGLE, FORCING CHROME SALE AS PART OF MONOPOLY
PUNISHMENT

 * Nov 21, 2024
 *

U.S. regulators want a federal judge to break up Google to prevent the company
from continuing to squash competition through its dominant search engine after a
court found it had maintained an abusive monopoly over the past decade. The
proposed breakup floated in a 23-page document filed late Wednesday by the U.S.
Justice Department calls for Google to sell its industry-leading Chrome web
browser and impose restrictions designed to prevent Android from favoring its
search engine. Regulators also want to ban Google from forging
multibillion-dollar deals to lock in its dominant search engine as the default
option on Apple’s iPhone and other devices.

AS US RAMPS UP NUCLEAR POWER, FUEL SUPPLIER PLANS TO ENRICH MORE URANIUM
DOMESTICALLY

 * Nov 20, 2024
 *

A supplier of fuel for nuclear power plants has announced a $60 million
expansion in Tennessee, promising more manufacturing of high-tech centrifuges
there to enrich uranium. The expansion by Centrus Energy at its massive facility
in Oak Ridge comes as the U.S. ramps up its reliance on nuclear power as a
climate change solution. The Tennessee facility makes and tests 40-foot-high
centrifuges for the company’s enrichment facility in Piketon, Ohio. Centrus is
among several companies working on enriching uranium in the U.S., which is
currently dependent on foreign providers. Russia has said it would temporarily
limit exports of enriched uranium to the U.S. after the U.S. banned Russian
uranium starting in 2028.
