   The Data-centric AI Movement [S42658]
   Expand

Data-centric AI is a growing movement that shifts the engineering focus in AI
systems from the model to the data. However, data-centric AI faces many open
challenges, including measuring data quality, data iteration, and engineering
data as part of the machine learning project workflow, data management tools,
crowdsourcing, data augmentation and synthesis, as well as responsible AI.
We'll explain the key pillars of data-centric AI, identify the trends in
data-centric AI movement, and set a vision for taking ideas applied
intuitively by a handful of experts and synthesizing them into tools that
make the application systematic for all. Bryan Catanzaro will host a Q&A
discussion with Andrew Ng at the end of this session.

Measuring and Mitigating Bias in AI [S42263]
   Expand

Our rapid progress in AI needs to be coupled with measures to ensure that
it's deployed responsibly and ethically. Trustworthy or responsible AI aims
to minimize unintended harm from AI deployments while maximizing benefits.
This multidisciplinary area can encompasses many facets: explainability,
robustness, undesirable bias, privacy, and model governance. We'll describe
how to define, measure, and mitigate these issues, and introduce recent
principled AI algorithms designed to satisfy the requirements. We'll
illustrate with different use cases and include technical information. This
session is meant for people in strategic planning and policy development.

   Scaling Data-driven Robot Learning [S42252]
   Expand

Recent progress in robot learning has found that robots can acquire complex
visuomotor manipulation skills through trial and error. Despite these
successes, the generalization and versatility of robots across environment
conditions, tasks, and objects remains a major challenge. And, unfortunately,
our existing algorithms and training setups aren't prepared to tackle such
challenges, which demand large and diverse sets of tasks and experiences.
This is because robots are typically trained using online data collection,
using data collected entirely from scratch in a single lab environment. I'll
propose a paradigm for robot learning where we continuously accumulate,
leverage, and reuse broad offline datasets across papers — much like the rest
of machine learning, but notably under-explored for robotic manipulation.

Building AI-based Recommender System Leveraging the Power of Deep Learning
   and GPU [S41535]
   Expand

Recommender systems play a crucial role in any ecommerce platform. Therefore,
it's very important to build a personalized, scalable, and reliable
recommender system that proactively helps shoppers discover products that
engage them while on the website, and then reengage them with products and
content that align with their interest after they leave the website via
email, social media, or other marketing channels. I'll cover our
transformation at The Home Depot to an AI-based recommender system leveraging
the power of deep learning and GPU. We'll discuss how we train and deploy
real-time deep-learning models to enable personalized recommendations at
   scale.

Scale and Accelerate the Distributed Model Training in Kubernetes Cluster
[S42498]
Expand

In order to orchestrate deep learning workloads that scale across multiple GPUs
and nodes, Kubernetes offers a compelling solution. With Kubernetes and Kubeflow
PyTorch, we can easily schedule and track a distributed training job on
single-GPU multi-node, multi-GPU single-node, and multi-GPU multi-nodes in a
shared GPU resource pool. To accelerate deep learning training at Zoom, we
enable RDMA, RoCE to bypass the CPU kernel and offload the TCP/IP protocol. We
apply this technology in Kubernetes with SRIOV by NVIDIA Network Operator in a
heterogenous GPUs cluster with four GPU servers and eight GPU servers. By
combining NVIDIA NCCL, Apex, and PyTorch PowerSGD, we can reach a near-linear
performance increase as the GPU number and worker node increases.

   Expressive Neural Text-to-speech [S42646]
   Expand

Generating natural-sounding, human-like speech has been a goal of scientists
for decades. Its use within products such as Alexa, Amazon’s popular voice
service, coupled with recent advances in neural technology have transformed
what's possible. Today, synthetically generated speech is more natural
sounding than it has ever been, opening up new and technically challenging
opportunities. Yet the pace of invention shows little sign of slowing. We'll
give a high-level overview of recent developments, demonstrate how far we’ve
progressed over the last five years, provide an introduction to the
approaches adopted, and discuss future technical challenges and directions.
