Why did I receive a notification about open balance?

Recently, you visited a doctor/facility for medical care. After your visit, the
billing department of the medical provider with whom you had the appointment
billed your insurance company. However, due to the fact that insurance plans
vary in coverage between copays, deductibles, and co-insurance, you are
sometimes responsible for an additional unpaid portion. Therefore, the doctor
needs to bill you directly for the remaining balance. In the past, you may have
received paper medical bills and statements in the mail. Going forward, your
doctor/facility has chosen to utilize paperless billing which offers benefits
such as instant bill support, interactive itemized bills, and varied payment
terms that are not available with traditional billing methods. If you are a
guarantor of the patient, you might be receiving the notifications for the
patient.

Why didn’t my insurance cover my bill?

Recently, you visited a doctor/facility for medical care. After your visit, the

billed your insurance company. However, due to the fact that insurance plans
vary in coverage between copays, deductibles, and co-insurance, you are
sometimes responsible for an additional unpaid portion. Therefore, the doctor
needs to bill you directly for the remaining balance. Essentially, your
insurance did cover a portion of the bill, but due to coverage variables, you
are still responsible for the cost not covered by insurance (called the “patient
portion”).
