MAY TERM ABROAD: ANCIENT & COLONIAL HERITAGE IN LATIN AMERICA: CULTURAL TREASURES OF THE MAYA * Antigua, Guatemala *Page being modified for 2025* With a focus on travel and hands-on experiences, this program offers an interdisciplinary overview of the heritage of Central America through Maya and Colonial history in Guatemala and Belize. The program begins at Casa Herrera, UT Austin's educational and research facility in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Antigua, where students will be matched with local family stays, and ends in the Caribbean coast of Belize. Coursework relies on student-designed research projects based on direct observation of archaeological sites, museums, villages, cooperative businesses, natural reserves and protected ecosystems, experienced through the extensive travel components of the program. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SPONSORED BY COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS COURSE(S) * ARH 347M / GRG 322M / ANT 323V / LAS 327 - Maya Art and Architecture ACADEMIC INFORMATION Fulfills VAPA requirement and Sustainability Studies capstone, counts toward IRG Culture and a Strand Course for the Museum Studies BDP, Media & the Arts track, and carries the GC. 3 hours in-residence credit for Spring semester, and grades factored into UT GPA.
