Skip to content ON JUNE 13, VOTE YES ON MEASURE A! LET’S FIX PORTLAND’S RENT CONTROL LAWS Sign Up to Stay Informed MEASURE A WILL DISCOURAGE AUTOMATIC RENT INCREASES Working families are struggling to find affordable housing in Portland. It’s time to fix Portland’s rent control laws to promote a fairer housing market and provide more housing options for Portland families. GOOD FOR RENTERS: Measure A discourages automatic rent increases while keeping rent stabilization measures in place. GOOD FOR RENTAL PROVIDERS: This measure allows property owners to reset rental rates for a unit ONLY when a tenant voluntarily leaves. GOOD FOR PORTLAND: Measure A encourages developers to build more affordable housing, resulting in lower rents for everyone. MEASURE A WILL FIX PORTLAND’S RENT CONTROL BY: * Maintaining current tenant protections: It does not eliminate rent control in Portland. * Protecting tenants from large annual rent increases by discouraging rental providers from raising rents by the maximum allowable amount every year. * Bringing Portland’s rent control measure in line with other similar ordinances across the country * Improving tenant conditions by removing obstacles to property maintenance and improvements. DO YOU FAVOR THE CHANGE IN THE CITY ORDINANCE(S) PROPOSED BY CITIZEN PETITION AS PROVIDED BELOW? AN ACT TO AMEND RENT CONTROL AND TENANT PROTECTIONS An Act to Amend Rent Control and Tenant Protections maintains all tenant protections established in the existing Rent Control and Tenant Protections ordinance. The Act removes incentives for landlords to increase rents for existing tenants and discourages no-cause evictions by allowing for the establishment of new Base Rents at the time of a new tenancy, but only in instances when the prior tenant moves out voluntarily.
