Close 01 Lemanic Transitional Serif [text] Status: In progress Started: 2015 infos Lemanic is a project that started in February 2015. It consists of an exploration of 5 months into the construction of an extended type family for newspaper. Working with three different grades, it lets the designer construct a page with very dynamic and dynamic elements. The first grade made for text is the book one. Merging together traditional geometric sans-serif shapes and adding some contrast. This combination brings a crispy texture by playing with thin junction and more monolinear shapes. While Phily project being in progress it contains a grotesk, a rounded, a condensed and a compressed version. It will slowly evolved into different cuts in order to leave the "adaptation" area. 03 Soprana Transitional Serif [text + display] Status: In progress Started: 2014 infos After long hours of walking in different little village in the middle of Sicily, we stopped in an old city called Soprana. Different signed engraved in stone were visible in streets and religious building. I made several research and went back the next day with the idea of photographing several sources. All of the sign were engraved in marble and have the specificity of being only made in uppercases. 04 Medley Transitional Serif [display] Status: In progress Started: 2015 infos After browsing the virtual medieval manuscript library, some document contained some interesting details that can be used in a more contemporary context. After searching for unconventional documents, the document below brings some interesting design elements. The particularity of this set of letters is the unusual ligatures and some experimental ligature. After launching, this font seemed particularly popular on adult websites. Both OnlyFans and XXX Fans have adopted the typeface into their new logos. I am really interested to know why not only one, but two of the most popular porn sites on the internet decided to use this style. This font has literally become the "typeface" of porn. 05 Phantom Transitional Monospace Serif [text + display] Status: In progress Started: 2016 infos Phantom started as a logo for Sunbilt. "Swiss Efficiency" being the base model on which the project began, it gave me somehow a lot of information of the visual and proportions needed. The recipe extracted from the logo was: mono-space, serif, light and quite some contrast. The project slowly evolved and included two other weight. This family expansion installed new problems due to the serifs and the monospace restrictions. Solutions need to be challenged and problem solved. 06 Bachus Brush script [headline + display] Status: In progress Started: 2016 infos Bacchus is this brushy type project born from a logo. The decision to turn the identity of Wine District, a local Geneva based wine cellar, into a punk/casual identity really lead the visual direction. Based on letters made with a brush, the goal was really to break up with the very traditional and codified world of wine traditions and graphic world. The whole typeface has several conditional ligature and each letters has at least 3 differents version of it. It includes initial and final forms. 07 Animax Lineale Geometric [text + display] Status: In progress Started: 2016 infos Animax is the typeface born after the Enigma rebranding. Having to reshape and identity and use a typeface to do it leaded to many questions. Merging specific shapes stated in the brief and a sense of contemporary shapes and rhythm was a big challenge. The goal was to offer a tool that could really support the identity. The choice of a very geometric sans serif is explained by the decision present all around. This project was made with the intention to pair this type project with two other google font. 08 Chablaix Neo-textura [display] Status: In progress Started: 2015 infos Chablaix has been extracted from the original Lemanic project. After setting up a tool box in The Hague during the TypeMedia program, it was time for the different cuts and type version to exist by itself. In both cases, roman and italic, the intended size is for big headlines. 09 Volpe Transitional Serif [display] Status: In progress Started: 2015 infos Volpe has been extracted from the original Lemanic project. It gathers different shapes that interest me and that is quite a challenge to make it work together. This specific font is probably the most in progress work and is a daily playground that helps me to understand shapes and type design. The high contrast is a sort of ease but its counter-brother which has quite no contrast and no serif is on its way in order to study the evolution and drawing of both direction 12 Arancia Lineale Geometric[display + text] Status: In progress Started: 2016 infos Some project start from an identity built around a logo and some start from a sentence leading the identity. L'Oranger, an ancient and well-known cafe in Geneva, rebranded their identity and asked Enigma to make the whole work. One of the proposal revolve around a custom typeface for the sentence "La terre est bleu comme une orange", earth is blue as an orange. The proportions and the very geometric choices built this visual identity. Those two characteristic produced some very wide circular shapes to highlight the contrast between the tradition and the modern times. 13 Moritz Slab Serif [text] Status: In progress Started: 2015 infos This project is a revival born out of traveling guide from Switzerland. The main goal is to really experiment with a Clarendon like typeface and to study the very dynamic and complex aspect of the italic. 14 Orniere Lineale Humanist [text + display] Status: In progress Started: 2015 infos Born out of the roman face of the Lemanic typeface, it evolved quite a lot since it was considered at the end of the first 2015 semester. The project took a text oriented way and included since the beginning some specific ingredient. While working in parallel with the Lemanic serif face, the similar proportions were the first point to keep. Then came the inktraps and the low contrast.
