HOW TO RAISE HAPPY CHILDREN?

By Marjorie Camacho inHappy Children

Any parent aspires to create the best environment to educate their child, but
sometimes it is difficult to know how it is achieved and what it means.
Psychologist Annie gives some clues.

In order to have a happy child, who does well emotionally, socially, and
educationally, you have to be firm but kind parents. This means that in addition
to being loving, we must delineate clear limits and boundaries, as well as
positive and negative consequences according to their behavior. Happy children
are those who live in a structured home with rules that are enforced, allowing
them to know where they are “standing.”

It is just as important that parents know how to have a united front, even if
they are separated so that their children always receive congruent and clear
messages. Neither permissiveness nor overprotective parents lead to happiness.
On the contrary, children raised without rules, who do what they want, and their
behaviors have erratic consequences, are not happy and will possibly end up as
unstable adults.

Another factor to take into account to raise happy children is that you have to
stimulate their passions, which are generally their talents and/or strengths.
That is why it is important to know the child well to support her and stimulate
her interests and talents. Here you could also think of stimulating a hobby or a
sport that makes your child happy.

On the other hand, it is essential to have family routines such as eating
together every day, as this helps promote emotional well-being. Also, this gives
the child a great sense of belonging and bonding by sharing daily and special
events with the family. Sharing special dates, such as birthdays, Christmas,
etc., give the child a reaffirmation of their belonging to the family.
Everything that contributes to giving a child a sense of belonging generates
great emotional well-being. In addition, every child needs to feel that he is
part of a family that loves and appreciates him.

Being able to hug, kiss, and pamper children allows them to feel loved and,
therefore, happier. Physical contact is necessary to consolidate the bond
between parents and children. It is important for the happiness of your children
that they are taught to share with those most in need. Teach them to give and
not just to receive. Show them with your example of how he is one more member of
a community to which he must give his best.

Invite friends to play with them. Play is vital to the healthy emotional
development of any child. The game promotes the development of social and
emotional skills and also allows them to relieve stress levels and calm fears.
Another factor that can contribute to the happiness of a child is that they grow
up with pets, they teach them to care for others and develop a sense of
responsibility, and they learn more about bonding and empathy.

Good advice that strengthens the quality of life is to always speak to them in
positive and optimistic language that allows the child to always have hope.
Negative language always has to be accompanied by positive phrases that tell you
how to improve. Show him and tell him what he did wrong, but also how to do it
right.

Having happy children is not that difficult. It is a matter of having a family
that demands them, but that is loving and that they always know what to expect
and that there are times and spaces for the family to enjoy them. This tanks
them emotionally for the rest of their life.

TWIN BREASTFEEDING: GUIDELINES, TIPS, AND WHICH POSTURES ARE BEST

By Marjorie Camacho inHappy Children

Considering that a mother’s milk production is linked to her baby’s request, we
do not have to think that we will not have enough milk to breastfeed two babies
at the same time. The more they eat, the more milk we will produce, so unless
there is a real problem for the milk to rise (something that we should consult
with the doctor), we do not have any concern.

So, we must focus on other conditions that can cause us to go through moments of
stress related to breastfeeding twins. These are:

Motivation

Strong motivation and willpower are required to breastfeed a twin set, which
will be greater than that required to breastfeed a single baby.

Twin breastfeeding is very demanding, especially in the first period, the one
dedicated to learning that requires considerable time.

After the first few weeks, breastfeeding will become a pleasant time to feed
your babies, so we must be prepared for hard days and think that everything will
be better in the short future.

Information

Not knowing how to breastfeed twins can be very stressful. Therefore, one way to
prepare for such an important task is to observe other nursing mothers. Dating
other mothers early in your pregnancy can be very helpful in starting your
adventure. You can also obtain all the information on breastfeeding twins from
breastfeeding professionals, and you can also expand their knowledge by reading
the material available on the subject.

Support

Stable and constant support is a comfort and a great help in this delicate
period. An important role is that of the father, his contribution is necessary,
and his confidence in breastfeeding can make a difference in the company’s
success. Other important supports are those of the health personnel at birth and
family members once they return home.

Help at home

A material aid that can relieve the mother of daily household chores can be
almost essential to save precious time to devote to rest and start breastfeeding
well. This will allow the family to provide proper care for twin babies.

General guidelines for breastfeeding twins

In the practice of breastfeeding for twins, we can point out some important
guidelines or rules to follow. We see them now listed:

If twins remain with their mothers from birth, they should breastfeed as soon as
possible, from the time of delivery.
It is important to breastfeed frequently and with frequent feedings during the
first days, between 8 and 12 feedings in the first days, taking care to multiply
everything by the number of children.
This is a very delicate phase and essential to properly stimulate milk
production and ensure adequate needs throughout the following months.
Bottles and pacifiers should be avoided to not confuse babies while learning to
suck; remember that breastfeeding is different from bottle feeding.
If babies are separated from their mother for health reasons, a breast pump
should be used every 2-3 hours.

EFFECTIVE TIPS FOR SLEEPING A NEWBORN BABY

By Marjorie Camacho inHappy Children

The babies often have sleep cycles that can vary widely, depending not only on
the months you have but also whether eaten or not enough, if you have any
ailment, or as we mentioned, if the temperature is right. So there is no magic
formula or a key that allows us to sleep a baby and more when it comes to a
newborn, immediately, but we can follow several guidelines that will allow us to
get the baby to pick up certain habits that little by little they become a good
sleep routine. Let’s see what they are.

Take advantage of the first yawns

If the baby yawns and seems tired, take him to the crib (or to bed if you
co-sleep) without wasting time. In fact, you should know that if you do not take
advantage of that moment to begin to sleep, it is possible that it will “wake
up,” and it will cost you more to sleep.

Know well the sleep rhythm of babies

The sleep needs vary greatly from one baby to another, depending on the age but
also the individual characteristics of each: for example, up to a month of life,
the baby sleeps on average 14 to 15 hours a day (but this it also means that
there are those who sleep only 9 hours and others who can spend practically the
whole day asleep), then the hours of sleep gradually decrease, until the age of
four years, in which the child sleeps from 9 to 14 hours approximately.

There is also a lot of variability in the duration of each sleep episode: if in
the first month, the baby can wake up on average every three hours (but there
are babies who wake up after an hour and those who sleep 4 hours in a row),
around the year of age, the child begins to sleep more, which can last up to
eight to nine hours (although it is often interrupted by one or more
awakenings), in addition to being recommended that you take a few naps during
the day, one in the morning and another in the afternoon; and around two or
three years, it will only be advisable to take an afternoon nap.

Is it a day, or is it a night?

We must try that the newborn can distinguish the difference between day and
night. This is a task that can take us weeks and even months, but if we do all
kinds of activities with the baby during the day, we will end up checking how he
himself ends up falling asleep when the afternoon-night arrives, the moment that
we will take advantage of to start his sleep phase and thus accustom him to
sleeping at once all night or at least several hours at a time.

Wake up the baby if he falls asleep during the day

If it is not nap time, it is not good for the baby to spend the whole morning or
afternoon sleeping because that translates into not wanting to sleep at night.
It happens to many parents, they go out for a walk with the baby, and suddenly
he has fallen asleep even first thing in the morning. It is better to gently
wake him up and distract him, so that little by little, he gets used to staying
awake during the day and falling asleep at night.
