addressing members of our school community at a We Are TR Foundation event that
featured inspiring performances from some of our talented TR students—the
Foothill High School Mariachi Ensemble, the Las Palmas Elementary School choir,
and the Grant Union High School and Rio Linda High School drumlines.

We're ecstatic to share that TRUSD employee Joshua Crotts has been named a 2024
California Classified School Employee of the Year! Crotts, a Rio Linda High
School graduate, is the district's Instructional Materials Coordinator. This
prestigious honor speaks volumes about his hard work, dedication,
professionalism and impact within our school district. Crotts is one of nine
individuals throughout the state selected for this honor.

CONTINUING THE LEGACY: TWIN RIVERS UNIFIED CELEBRATES SUPERINTENDENT’S LATEST
RECOGNITION

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In a testament to his outstanding work in turning Twin
Rivers Unified into a school district of progress and opportunity,
Superintendent Dr. Steve Martinez has received the distinguished Roberts Family
Development Center Legacy Award. This huge honor shines a spotlight on the
superintendent’s inspiring leadership which has turned Twin Rivers into a
shining example of progress and growth over the past decade.  
 
Transformative initiatives during Dr. Martinez’s tenure have resulted in:  
 
 * A substantial increase in the graduation rate from 75.3% to 91.4%
 * A new Northlake TK-8 School set to open its doors in August 2024
 * Two students enrolled in the District’s Dual Enrollment Program with American
   River College (ARC) earning their high school diploma and Associate of Arts
   degree in 2022-2023; three more students are slated to achieve the same in
   2024
 * $79 million investment in 74 major projects during the 2022-2023 school year,
   including Sports Complexes at Grant Union and Highlands High schools
 * $30 million investment in 24 projects during the 2023-2024 school year,
   including Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK) facilities at Castori and
   Woodridge
 * $287 million investment in 128 projects in progress or the planning stages\

 
 “The Legacy Award is an incredible honor and I am truly humbled,” said Dr.
Martinez. “None of us accomplishes this work alone, and the Legacy Award
reflects the dedication and effort of the Board of Trustees and all staff in
Twin Rivers Unified. It’s our collective work and the positive impact on the
entire Twin Rivers school community that matters most.”
 
With an operating budget of $528,249,814 for the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Twin
Rivers Unified serves 24,470 TK–12th grade students. Nearly 88% are
socioeconomically disadvantaged and 30% are English language learners. Nurturing
the potential of every student is a collective effort.
 
“Dr. Martinez has made Twin Rivers a district where people can identify
progress,” said Derrell Roberts, CEO of the Roberts Family Development Center.
“New construction, planned upgrades, a significant increase in high school
graduation rates, outward student successes in and out of class, and some of the
highest teacher salaries in our region. We are looking forward to working with
him on ways to involve our broader community in making sure that this progress
continues.”  
 
From infrastructure enhancements to academic achievements, Twin Rivers Unified
has experienced remarkable growth under Dr. Martinez’s guidance. And working
together with community partners, Dr. Martinez and the entire Twin Rivers team
are determined to sustain the progress and fulfill the hopes and aspirations of
the district’s students and families.

UPDATE - PRECISION IN MOTION: JROTC COLOR GUARD COMPETITION

UPDATE: May 1, 2024 - The JROTC Color Guard Competition on May 4 has been
canceled. We will let you know when the event is rescheduled. 
 
 
Twin Rivers Unified and the Grant Union High School JROTC program will host a
JROTC Color Guard Competition on Saturday, May 4, 2024, featuring nine teams
from various high schools in the region (Ripon, Kennedy, Beyer, Franklin,
Cordova, Grant, Pacific, Casa Roble, Weston Ranch). The event will display the
discipline, teamwork and leadership skills of JROTC cadets as they compete in
precision drills and routines.
 
WHO:        Grant Union High School JROTC Pacer Battalion/Twin Rivers Unified
School District 
WHAT:      Regional JROTC Color Guard  Competition   
WHEN:     Saturday, May 4, 2024, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

UNLOCKING FUTURES: TRUSD CAREER FAIR

Approximately 600 Twin Rivers Unified students attended today's (May 2) Career
Fair for seniors. Students were able to engage with approximately 50 public and
private sector employers and make meaningful connections.

In Twin Rivers Unified School District, your children come first. School safety
is our highest priority, and recent local and national incidents/events
highlight how critical it is for all of us to work together to ensure a safe
environment for our children to learn, grow and thrive in our classrooms and in
the community.
 
We recognize that it’s hard not to worry and feel vulnerable with each report of
a violent crime in the area. There are likely concerns about campus safety, and
we want to take this opportunity to highlight our safety and security measures.
It’s important for you to know that there are many efforts taking place
throughout the district to keep our students and staff safe.

TR SAFETY & SECURITY PROTOCOLS AT ATHLETIC/SPECIAL EVENTS

Dear Families,
 
All fans who attend high school athletic/special events in Twin Rivers Unified
School District will be required to enter our venues through a weapons detection
system, effective Friday, Aug. 18, 2023. Bags and attendees may be subject to a
secondary screening if the system indicates a need for one. This new procedure
is designed to enhance the safety and security for all attendees at each venue.
Weapons of any kind, alcohol/illicit contraband, and smoking or the use of
tobacco products are prohibited on all district properties.
 
Other safety protocols include: 
 * No backpacks
 * Students 14 and younger who do not attend our district schools must be
   accompanied by an adult at all times
 * All students must have a student identification card
 * If individuals leave the venue/event, they will not be able to return (no
   re-entry)
 * Attendees engaging in disruptive behavior may be escorted from the
   venue/school grounds, and could be banned from all future sporting/special
   events on our campuses

 
It is essential to maintain safe and secure learning and competition
environments for all students, staff, families and community members. We
encourage all attendees to plan ahead by arriving early and following all
protocols. Failure to follow protocols may result in denial/removal from the
event.
