Hoff: Lamenting a troika of giants lost
One doesn’t have to be an aging political scientist to understand the magnitude
of three recent deaths of persons in the news. While the passings of former
first lady Rosalynn Carter (Nov. 19), of former Secretary of State and national
security adviser Henry Kissinger (Nov. 29) and of former Supreme Court Associate
Justice Sandra Day O’Connor (Dec. 1) are certainly individually significant, so
was their collective influence over a half-century.

Speak Up: Santa, the Grinch and friends rev up holiday spirit in Delaware
It’s only natural to see Santa Claus sitting atop a parade float or a firetruck
or inside a shopping mall. However, at the height of the pandemic three years
ago, Joshua Sweeney approached his older brother, Jason Sweeney, with the idea
of delivering Santa and some of his friends to various locations throughout
Delaware via motorcycle. That mission has been accomplished, as the group —
known as “I Saw the Grinch Chasing Santa” — is in its fourth rendition this
holiday season.

DiPaolo and McGeoch: Donor-advised funds could benefit community, maximize tax
advantages
As we approach the end of the calendar year, last-minute giving can be a great
opportunity to make a difference in your community, while maximizing 2023 tax
deductions. Donor-advised funds make it possible to take advantage of tax
benefits without having to rush charitable-giving decisions.

Dover is home for the holidays for Santa and Mrs. Claus
Those who listen closely around west Dover might hear an occasional ‘Ho, ho,
ho!’ or Christmas bells jingling in the night. Or they might smell freshly baked
cookies wafting through the cold air. Most might not realize it, but Santa Claus
and his Mrs. have recently moved to the capital city. They go by the names “Kris
& Holly,” and wherever they travel, holiday spirit is never far behind.
