RATES

Weipa has certainly been in news and web sites lately with the likelihood that
the existing mining operations will have life expectancies of between 50 and 100
years from now. Many private and government agencies are now located in Weipa
and will undoubtedly increase as the town continues to use extra services.
Tourism to Weipa will also increase as the northern development road becomes
completely sealed and weather resistant. The owners and management have
recognised the changing trends surrounding accommodation in Weipa and have
decided to amend their rates to reflect the needs of the many clients who
require longer term accommodation. Whilst Ash Palms Motor Inn provides short
term stays it is also capable of supporting long term and semi-permanent
residents.

FAQ

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

In summer it can be quite wet and humid, being in the tropics. For this time of
the year bring an umbrella or raincoat, light attire, cotton instead of nylon
shirts, a hat and sunscreen, sunglasses for the glare and protection for your
feet. There are sealed walking paths in Weipa and being located in a flat
environment it is a pleasure to wander through the local area. In winter, well
we don't really get any cold weather but it can get cool so you may like to
bring a light jacket for the cool mornings. Insect repellant is another handy
inclusion and I always think a small torch is invaluable as Weipa's power is
sometimes affected by tropical downpours.

ARE THE UNITS SUITABLE FOR LONG STAYS?

Definitely! We have clients who regularly stay for 12 months or more and they
would never think of staying anywhere else. As a matter of fact, we boast that
Ash Palms is probably the most comfortable and convenient units in Queensland.
Long stays, short stays, permanent or casual - we don't care, we love you all.

CAN I COOK IN THE UNITS?

Most certainly. The kitchens are equipped with stove tops, frypans, microwaves,
jugs, cutlery and everything you need to prepare your own meals. Of course if
you wish to dine out, there is the bakery, the Bowls and Golf Clubs and a
restaurant or two about 3 minutres walk from your front door.

WHAT ABOUT THE BEDROOMS?

Bedrooms are separated by robes. These robes provide privacy and a separation
between the 2 single beds in one room and the queen size bed in the other
without being fully enclosed. On ascending the spiral staircase the landing
gives access to both bedrooms. Please note- Two of our units are equipped with
double beds in each room, and sofa beds are also available in some units if you
prefer not to use the stairs.

WHAT ABOUT A POOL?

Of course. Our pool is our pride and joy. Not too big, not too small. No
chlorine, no salt, just pure fresh water. The water is cool and crystal clear
all year round so bring your swimmers. Note. The pool is locked at night. Our
guests value the quiet easy going nights sitting in the courtyard after sunset.
Strict rule - keep it down in the pool area!

WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS FOR STAYING AT ASH PALMS?

So there are a few things here to note. We clean and service the units once a
stay or once a week whatever comes first. If you need the unit cleaned more
often, no problems, just ask. Cleaning and replacements costs more so there will
be an extra charge. Simply, if you are willing to keep the unit clean and tidy
you will be saving yourself money and cutting down on wasteful detergents and
energy requirements. We also do not have a 24-hour office. The office is only
open when the manager is on-site. There is a caretakers quarters but it is
closed to the general public. Contacts for circumstances when the office is
closed are displayed on the office window.

DO YOU HAVE PHONE FACILITIES?

Yes. We used to have outside lines on our phone system but they were rarely used
once mobile phones became common in Weipa. We have since stopped this service as
the billing and monitoring process was unwarranted. If you require a phone call,
photocopy or print service please arrange with the manager.

ARE THERE TAXIS IN WEIPA?

Yes. The phone number is in the guide in your room.

WHAT IF I ARRIVE WHEN THE OFFICE IS CLOSED?

Once again we only ask you to tell us when you are arriving and we will make
sure there is someone there to greet you. Other arrangements can be made with
the manager if you do not have an ETA. In this case just ask for the mobile
number of our manager and the office will be opened when you arrive.

IT MUST BE EXPENSIVE IF ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE OVERNIGHT RATE?

Electricity costs are our biggest issue. We charge a fair rate, given the
quality and extras that are included and the sheer comfort of the units. How we
can do this is by running economically and efficiently and asking you to help
us. We supply cool quiet split air con systems but please TURN OFF the AIR CONS
when not in use. In a nutshell, for the size and quality of the units, Ash Palms
Motor Inn is by far the best value in Weipa. Our rate this year are $206 per
night for 1 or 2 people and $70 per night for additional persons. It doesn't
make sense to stay anywhere else! Note that as Ash Palms Motor Inn is capable of
full time accommodation GST is not applicable.

THE ROOM WAS FANTASTIC AND THE PEPLE THAT RUN IT WENT ABOVE & BEYOND TO LOOK
AFTER US. THEY SET UP THE BBQ WITH UTENSILS AND SUPPLIED PLASTIC PLATES AND

WE WALKED INTO OUR HOTEL ROOM TO FIND IT WAS ALMOST A HOUSE! HAVING BEEN GREETED
BY THE REALLY FRIENDLY OWNER, WE PARKED UNDER COVER AND WALKED OVER TO OUR ROOM.
INSIDE WE FOUND A LARGE LOUNGE/DINING AREA, A KITCHEN AND A BATHROOM. IN THE
MIDDLE OF THE ROOM WAS A SPIRAL STAIRCASE WHICH LED TO A MEZZANINE WITH TWO
SINGLE BEDS IN ONE "ROOM" AND THIS WAS SEPARATED FROM THE DOUBLE ROOM BY A LARGE
WARDROBE WALL. AIRCON AND FANS COMPLETED THE ROOM. THE HOTEL ALSO SUPPLIES A
BARBECUE, LAUNDRY FACILITIES, A POOL AND A LOVELY TROPICAL GARDEN BETWEEN THE
TWO SIDES OF THE HOTEL. WALK TO EVERYWHERE. SHOPS ARE JUST OVER THE GREEN VERGE
AND ALL YOU NEED IS THERE.
WE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED OUR TIME IN WEIPA AND AT ASH PALMS. JANE R
