MEET DR NICK, ONE OF BRISBANE'S LEADING SPECIALIST ORTHODONTISTS

Dr Nick is one of Brisbane’s most experienced specialist orthodontists having
created lasting smiles for over 10,000 patients during the course of his career.
With a strong belief in combining personalised care with the very best of
orthodontic technologies, Dr Nick established NK Orthodontist in 1995 and has
been creating beautiful smiles for patients of all ages ever since.

With extensive experience in all orthodontic appliances, Dr Nick is able to
offer his patients a broad range of options when it comes to their treatment.
These include metal braces, clear ceramic braces, Invisalign and Spark clear
aligners, orthopaedic functional appliances, and expanders. Dr Nick believes in
taking the time to get to know his patients in addition to undertaking a
thorough diagnosis of the orthodontic condition, to determine the most suitable
treatment plan.

Dr Nick holds a Bachelor of Dental Science (BDSc Melb, 1987) from the University
of Melbourne and a Masters of Dental Science in Orthodontics (MDSc Qld, 1995)
from the University of Queensland. Additionally, Dr Nick is a member of the
Australian Society of Orthodontists, the Australian Dental Association, the
American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine and the Australian Academy of
Dento-Facial Aesthetics.

development, often negating the need for future treatment & extractions. The
Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends monitoring from age 7. Monitoring

ORTHODONTIC F.A.Q.

WHEN SHOULD I SEE AN ORTHODONTIST?

If you are concerned about crooked teeth, gaps between your teeth or issues
relating to your bite, these are all problems for an orthodontist. Dr Nick can
start the monitoring phase from 7 years old and continue to advise when your
child is ready for treatment. A dentist referral is welcome but not required.

HOW LONG DOES ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT TAKE?

This is very dependent on the type of treatment you require. Braces and
Invisalign can vary; Some people may only need six months of treatment, but for
most people it can usually take between 14 to 24 months.

DOES ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT HURT?

No, orthodontic treatment doesn’t hurt, although at various stages throughout
your treatment you may experience some discomfort. This is usually around the
time you have your braces tightened or you receive your next set of aligners.
This discomfort can be treated with your usual pain relief methods.

DO YOU HAVE FINANCE OPTIONS AVAILABLE?

We offer interest free flexible payment plans to suit your lifestyle. The NK
Team will work closely with you to work out a suitable schedule within your
budget. Payment plans start from as little as $45 – $57 per week with no deposit
to start. 

IF I HAVE BRACES, DO I STILL NEED DENTAL CHECK-UPS EVERY SIX MONTHS?

Yes! In fact, it’s even more important that patients receiving orthodontic
treatment visit their dentist regularly. Dr Nick will focus on straightening
your teeth and your regular Dentist will check for decay and maintain good gum
health.

WILL MY BRACES INTERFERE WITH MY SCHOOL ACTIVITIES LIKE SPORTS, PLAYING AN
INSTRUMENT, OR SINGING?

Playing an instrument or a contact sport may require some initial adjustment
when you first get your braces but wearing braces will not stop you from
participating in any of your school activities. If you play a contact sport, it
is recommended that you wear an orthodontic mouthguard to protect your braces or
appliance. Dr Nick recommends an “Elastoplast” Large adult size mouth guard from
the Chemist. You are welcome to bring this with you and your braces on
appointment and we will mould it for you.

WHAT ARE LOOSE WIRES AND BANDS?

The wires and bands on your braces may become loose or break. If this happens,
please contact us and we will advise what needs to happen. In most cases, it is
fine to leave until your next appointment. If any piece of your appliance comes
off, be sure to save it and bring it to the office with you. You can temporarily
fix the long wire by cutting it close to the last bracket with nail clippers. If
the loose wire is causing irritation to your lips or cheeks, put wax or a wet
cotton ball over the broken wire to relieve the pain.

Dr Nick and his amazing team have been looking after my family for over 10 years

Excellent service and highly accommodating to individual needs. We have 4
children close in age, all require braces. As we live in a remote part of the
country, we fly in to access Orthodontic care.

Dr Nick and staff have prioritised our appts to fit in with flight schedules and
also considered and accommodated our need of all children receiving braces, in
rapid succession, on the one day.

Excellent ph support provided and we have also been given instructions, where
appropriate, on minor diy that we can do, if required. Flexible payment plans.
Beautiful premises that are very clean. Noted that all equipment was sterile and
that there was good sterile and aseptic techniques where appropriate (the nurse
in me talking here). Highly recommend.
