POLISH

Polish is an Indo-European language of the West Slavic language group, which has
the greatest number of speakers. Polish has over 40 million speakers with most
residing in Poland. It is also spoken as a second language in parts of the Czech
Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Belarus and the Ukraine. Unlike Russian, Polish
uses the Latin alphabet with diacritics.

Poland has a population of over 38 million people making it the ninth largest
country in Europe. Poland lost over six million citizens in World War II and
emerged after the war as one of the socialist republics influenced by the USSR
behind the Iron Curtain. Poland has been a member of the European Union since
2004, and is also a member of NATO and the OECD. Poland has traditionally been
known as an agricultural and heavy industrial nation with shipbuilding, steel
and the coal industries being prominent. Since joining the European Union, many
Poles left their country to work in other EU countries. However, with a booming
Polish economy, this exodus of workers is seemingly coming to an end with the
number returning to Poland far outnumbering those who are leaving.

Commodities produced in Poland include, electronics, cars, buses, helicopters
(PZL Świdnik), transport equipment, locomotives, planes (PZL Mielec), ships,
military equipment, medicines, food, clothes, glass, pottery (Bolesławiec) and

Portuguese is a Romance language derived from Latin and is part of the

spread far and wide as Portugal established a colonial and commercial empire,
which has continued almost up until today. As a result, Portuguese is the
official language of Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tomé and
Príncipe Guinea-Bissau, East Timor and Macau. It is estimated that between 215
and 220 million people speak Portuguese, with the earliest records of a
distinctly Portuguese language appearing in administrative documents dating from
the 9th century AD. The Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira are also
part of Portugal.

Portugal is a member of the European Union and the United Nations as well as a
founding member of the OECD and NATO. Major industries in Portugal include oil
refineries, automotive, cement production, pulp and paper, textiles, footwear,
furniture, and cork with Portugal being the world’s leading producer. Portugal
is also the world’s fifth largest producer of tungsten, and the world’s eleventh
largest producer of wine.

RUSSIAN

Russian is a Slavic language from the Indo-European group of languages.  Russia
uses the Cyrillic alphabet that was based on the Greek alphabet introduced by
Greek missionaries Cyril and Methodius back in the 9th Century AD.

Russia is the largest country in the world and stretches from St. Petersburg in
the west to Vladivostok in the east and with 6.6 million square miles, it covers
more than an eighth of the earth’s land mass. With over 142 million people,
Russia has the ninth largest population in the world.  The country extends
across the whole of northern Asia and makes up 40% of Europe, spanning 11 time
zones.

Russia has the world’s greatest reserves of mineral and energy resources and is
considered an energy superpower. It has the world’s largest forest reserves and
its lakes contain approximately one-quarter of the world’s unfrozen fresh
water. Russia’s wealth of natural resources makes it one of the biggest
producers of oil, natural gas, coal, timber, gold, diamonds and many other

SCANDINAVIAN

Scandinavia is a geographical region centred on the Scandinavian Peninsula in
Northern Europe. It consists of the kingdoms of Norway, Sweden and Denmark
(including the Danish Faroe Islands and Greenland), as well as also generally
including Finland and Iceland. Swedish, Danish and Norwegian, Icelandic and
Faroese are classed as North Germanic languages and are part of the

sector accounts for 20% of output and exports. Telecommunications, the
automotive industry and the pharmaceutical industries are of significant

Norway is on the western most edge of Northern Europe and is a very wealthy
country with large oil reserves, being the eleventh largest oil exporter in the
world. It is the only country in the Nordic region not to have joined the EU.

main industries include food processing, shipbuilding, metals, chemicals,
mining, fishing and pulp and paper products. Norway just as the other Nordic
