OUR GOAL

The goal of N4C is to improve and maintain local waterways by protecting and
rejuvenating the local ecosystems.

Norman Creek is located in Brisbane, Australia. The creek and its
tributaries together make up 24km of waterways.  They pass through suburbs such
as Mount Gravatt, Greenslopes, East Brisbane, Woolloongabba, Norman Park,
Moorooka and Coorparoo.

ARNWOOD PLACE

Arnwood Place is a natural channel design project which extends beyond the
confluence of Sandy Creek with Norman Creek to Barr Street Park.  Current work
aims to control weedy vines and improve habitat; a bushcare group meets here
regularly to progress rehabilitation.

GLINDEMANN PARK

This active bushcare group meets regularly on the second Saturday of the month,
8am-11am, between the months of Feburary and December. They can generally be
found upstream of the playground on the Logan Rd side somewhere!

GREENSLOPES DCP SITE

A lovely patch of rainforest behind Greenslopes Private Hospital, on the main
channel of Norman Creek. This beautiful site has seen some momentous changes,
with a massive riparian restoration project in 2000 and repeated impacts from
transport development.

HANLON PARK

Hanlon Park has been rejuvenated in a major project, the result of many years of
collaboration between N4C and Brisbane City Council under the Norman Creek
Catchment Master Plan.  Norman Creek has become a living waterway through
Greenslopes with the removal of the concrete channel and replacement with a
naturalised waterway.

MOORHEN FLATS

This project commenced in 1994 under the name CREEK FREECS. This was before the
formation of N4C. The aim of the project was to rehabilitate 4ha of what was
bare earth resulting from a re-direction of the creek. Today the site is now 70%
vegetated as a result of community plantings. It has the highest biodiversity of
any N4C catchment site and is testament to the tenacity of volunteers to restore
a waste land. Read on...

NURSERY

N4C has a nursery attached to its HQ at 66 Baron St Greenslopes, and we
re-launched it in 2015.  The goal of the nursery is to provide plants for
bushcare sites in our catchment and surrounding areas, and to involve the local
community in an enjoyable social activity (ie not as sweaty as bushcare!). You
can get free plants too!  Read on...

WEMBLEY PARK

Wembley Park is the only freshwater stream entering below the tidal zone of
Norman Creek. Our creek rehabilitation work here borders netball courts, BBQ &
playground facilities, off leash dog park and general open field areas.

QUEEN'S PLATINUM JUBILEE COORPAROO FINGER GULLIES SIGN UNVEILING

On the 15th of March, a sign commemorating the plantation of trees in the
celebration of the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II was unveiled. The
project was a collaboration between the Norman Creek Catchment Coordinating
Committee, and the Finger Gullies Bushcare. To celebrate this occasion, a shrub
was planted symbolically by Councilor Fiona Cunningham. Funding for this project
was provided by the Queen's Jubilee Grant, an international grant program
created to help increase the planting of trees.

BRISBANE'S NEW FLORAL EMBLEM

The Brisbane City Council is asking all residents of Brisbane for their opinion
on an additional floral emblem, to be introduced alongside the poinsettia flower
as the symbols of Brisbane. The current emblem has been the floral emblem of
Brisbane since 1930; however, said flower is actually a native flower of
Mexico.

There have been numerous debates on what flower to add to our floral symbol. The
famous jacaranda has been promoted by numerous residents. However, the flower
actually originated in Brazil, not Australia. Furthermore, the frangipani -
known for its famous smell during summer, and also advocated for by many - isn't
a Brisbane native either, but is from Mexico. The Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Adrian
Schrinner, is adamant that the new floral emblem must be a flower native to
Brisbane.

The survey closes on 18 April 2023 at 11:59 PM. Have your say - an online link
to the survey can be found here.
