   of pay equity in your company impact employee engagement? This Harvard

   This is a great article and timely for me, considering the Salary.com webinar
   that I was a guest on yesterday. The overarching message of this article is
   that normalizing conversations about pay is a critical piece in building pay
   transparency, and that it is a practice that all levels of management need to
   be part of.   However, for your managers to be able to participate in these
   types of conversations, your organization has to have some foundations laid
   first. The work to be done ahead of, or in conjunction with (depending on
   your comfort level of building a bridge as you cross it) having a clear pay
   philosophy that is built on transparency. For this to be possible, one
   important brick in the foundation is to use market data upon which to base
   your job pay ranges. Another foundational step is creating pay grades (if you
   don't already have this structure in place) to further anchor your salary
   ranges. There are other steps to consider, of course, equity and compression
   to name a few, and initial employee buy in to new information on how they are
   paid, to be sure. However, back to the HRB article, having manager
   understanding of the pay philosophy and the structure behind it is critical
   to inviting managers to help normalize pay conversations with your employees.
     Of course, the groundwork also involves auditing equity and compression
   factors and creating a plan to resolve any issue that arise in these areas as
