GIANTS — TECHNICAL UPDATE, JAN 2023

A lot of things happened in the past 3 months on Giants, from a technical
perspective. We developed new technology, improved the existing one, and learned
a lot of things:

 * Launched the Gallery tool
 * Launched the collection dashboard
 * Launched the token dashboard
 * Launched the Giants Proof of Work


Giants Technical Update

On top of all that, we worked on the Giants Village game and the new chapter of
the Giants Village. You’ll find all the details soon, but what we’ll introduce
will be more than just a game. Perfection doesn’t exist, but we tried to come
out with a version that is perfect for us — a version that we believe in.

Now, let’s go back to the technical side and see what we’ve developed so far:

 * A non-custodial wallet system that will act as your in-game inventory
 * Land and building management smart contract
 * Farms smart contracts
 * Set-up Blockchain Indexer
 * Lands/Buildings rendering
 * Transaction processing and handling

You might see a lot of blockchain-related points above because we really aim to
make a web3 game. Not just a web2 game with a “connect wallet” button. All
actions will be on-chain, and all items will be tokens/sfts/nfts, fully tradable
on any marketplace.

This way, we’ll take full advantage of the speed and low fees of the MultiversX
blockchain.


NON-CUSTODIAL WALLET SYSTEM

We tried to make it as easy as possible for end-users playing the game to bring
their assets into the game, play, and use them while keeping an excellent user
experience and all the blockchain advantages.

Your inventory wallet will be generated when you first connect to the game using
one of the supported providers (Maiar, Ledger, Extension, or Web Wallet). Then,
using our interface, you’ll see both your main and inventory wallets. You’ll be
able to transfer assets between your main wallet and the inventory wallet at any
time.

You will only use the inventory wallet when interacting with the Giants Village
game. Like this, you won’t need to confirm a transaction on your phone each
time.

This also opens a big opportunity for the future, to allow anyone to play,
without actually needing a MultiversX wallet. This is huge for adoption.


LAND AND BUILDING MANAGEMENT SMART CONTRACT

This smart contract will handle all operations around your village board:

 * place/remove land
 * place/remove buildings
 * upgrade buildings
 * and some other logic related to your village


FARMS SMART CONTRACTS

Each building will have its own smart contract with its own logic. Farms work
pretty much the same, except for some numbers. The farm smart contract will
handle all logic around producing/claiming resources, the price for upgrading
the building, etc.


BLOCKCHAIN INDEXER

Smart contracts are great, but they are not for storage and displaying data. In
order to provide the best user experience possible, we index all on-chain
actions you do in the game in order to display it on the front end as fast as
possible and create different statistics/aggregated data.


LAND/BUILDING RENDERING

As mentioned a few times until now, it will be a 2D isometric game. For this, we
worked on rendering your village — including land and buildings.

This might seem like a simple thing, but in reality, there are a lot of
challenges here, making sure all assets render correctly and you have a good
user experience.


TRANSACTION PROCESSING AND HANDLING

This is related to the Blockchain Indexer. A lot of times, when we index
different data it needs certain processing and handling depending on the
specific event.

Again, this is to provide you with the same speed and user experience as a web2
game.
