Dave Portnoy calling J.D. Vance a moron is saturating the internet — a currently popular re-hash around the controversy of Vance's 2021 (and subsequent) stated support for child tax credit. Portnoy claims, because he himself chose to be childless, that Vance wants him to pay more taxes. Portnoy can certainly make the case (all non-politicins can) that our system of taxation is run amuck. Claiming that Vance also "wants B" because he "wants A" does not conclude any useful truth. Rather, it does stoke more innuendo to try to simplify a highly complex system. It suggests one person's idea of value trumps (no pun intended) another person's idea of value. Maybe it should, maybe it shouldn't. What do we want? Potential understanding through interactive discourse?
