Had I known the grand adventures and beauty that were in store for me, I would have swam across the Pacific for that first date. When I arrived to our rendezvous with coffee, sunscreen, water bottle, hats, and a picnic blanket in-hand I scanned the horizon, looking for my beloved (obviously did not know that at the time). A beautiful woman who I knew to be Randalyn walked up to greet me cheerfully with a beautiful big smile, curly flowing locks of dirty blonde hair with hues of red, green/gray eyes with speckles of yellow, and cheeks for days. She had a warm radiance about her, and I immediately took a liking to her. Over the next 5 hours, I got to know Randalyn quite well, as we snuck into two beautiful, but at the time illegal (Covid), hiking trails and instantly jived! We had similar values, and were open and vulnerable (Randalyn nearly fainted at the bottom of a cliff on one of our hikes- had to lay down with her head on my lap and her feet up for several minutes) but I yearned for a deeper connection with her... I wanted to know her dreams, favorite memories and biggest fears. As time does, when you are having an amazing time, the day flew by, and I remember being sad that the date was coming to an end. Obviously, I didn’t want to scare this woman and jump the gun by assuming the feelings were mutual, so I kept my feelings to myself, and gave her a kiss goodbye. I was pleasantly surprised when we connected a few days after our first date and promptly planned for a second. The second date was in “Los Angeles proper” Randalyn’s home turf, and to be honest, I was a little intimidated and honestly not looking forward to being in LA for extended periods of time. As you already know because you’re reading this, it went amazing, and my admiration for her started to grow. The date went very well, however, that was the day that I met Bluebella. Blue, Randalyn’s 35 pound French bull dog rescue was quite honestly not too fond of me, and now that we’re being totally honest, I will say I wasn’t the biggest fan of her either. Side note, I do love dogs but Blue came off as a little jumpy and judgmental...now I know that she was just being protective because of her love for Randalyn and was keeping a watchful eye over me. Anyway, Randalyn and I really hit it off and planned our first adventure together. Once we went on our third date, a road trip to Big Sur, there was no looking back. Since then we have been pretty much inseparable and every minute with you has been a blessing. It has been such a wild little adventure - road trips up and down the coast, falling in love with Cambria together, birthdays in Zion and Baja, spending quality time with Grandma, trips to Idaho, visiting family in Miami and upstate New York, and watching Randalyn and Ed become part of the family. Life with Randalyn has been a place of warmth and love. A place of mutual respect and admiration. A place of trust. A place of continuous growth, learning together and about one another. Our story is love at first sight coupled with spending lots of quality time together, building respect, trust and friendship with each other. I am proud and excited to one day and forever call you my wife and l will always love you ever-more ... With love, admiration and gratitude - Amir Kamal Abdou _________________________________________________ Her version of events - Amir and I met in May of 2020, while the world was shut down. Amir was not what I expected. He was handsome indeed, but oddly prepared and playfully sweet. There was instant chemistry. I remember calling my dad after our first date and telling him that this is what it should feel like; this is what I had been waiting for. From that first date, Amir offered me romance and adventure, with a side of coffee and sunscreen. He was already speaking my love language. The first months of our relationship were something special. Amir wasn't working yet, the world was still shut down, and there was no traffic between our homes in LA and Long Beach. We existed in a beautiful bubble and I cried when Amir told me he was going to look for a job. I knew things were going to change. Six months later we were packing my things into the van and moving Blue and I to Long Beach. We are creatures of habit and repeat our favorite road trips often: Baja and San Onofre, but none more than the Central Coast and Big Sur. I knew the proposal was coming (Amir isn't good at hiding things), and a stormy day at Ragged Point, set apart from all our sunny So Cal adventures, could not have been more perfect. We made our way down a typically busy cliffside trail through the mist, to a rocky beach and tumultuous ocean. We were totally alone. It was breathtaking. I was telling Amir that it reminded me of where Harry and Dumbledore went searching for horcruxes, when I realized he was on his knee in front of me, and everything blurs from there. Each season of our relationship thus far has been distinct, and I know with certainty that I'm going to think about this current season for the rest of my life! We are so lucky to be blessed with friendships near and far, and we can't wait to celebrate our love, and our latest adventure, with each and every one of you, in a place so special to us. Thank you all so much for your support and encouragement in our lives, we would not be who we are without you! JoAnn Jinks
