#TRANSCAUCASIANTRAIL



In the north of Georgia, a US American is building a long-distance hiking trail
of superlatives: 1500 kilometres through the wild Caucasus. The Transcaucasian
Trail is intended to help preserve peace in the region. Paul Stephens created
the Transcaucasian Trail. Of the planned 1500 kilometres of the long-distance
hiking trail, around 140 kilometres are currently complete.

Katja Senjor's story and my images have been revived in one of the last issues
of the German STERN magazine, focusing on a region that is deeply divided these
days with a government that is pushing foreign investment and engagement more
and more out of the country, leaving it open if this mega project will ever be
finished.

Böyük sevinc hissi ilə sizinlə paylaşmaq istədiyimiz daha bir xəbər var.

Demək olar ki, hazırlığına qış aylarından başladığımız böyük bir macəranın
sonuna gəldik.

Sentyabr ayında Qafqaz Təbiəti Mühafizə Proqramı tərəfindən həyata keçirilən,
Azərbaycan və Gürcüstan arasında 100 günlük mübadilə proqramı sona çatdı.

Proqram iştirakçıları, bu 100 gün ərzində həm cığır quruculuğu üzrə texniki
təlimlər aldı, həm liderlik və digər yumşaq bacarıqlara yiyələndi, həm
ölkələrarası mədəniyyət mübadiləsinin bir hissəsi oldu, həm də beynəlxalaq və
yerli könüllülərdən ibarət düşərgələri idarə etdilər.

100 gün ərzində çox şey baş verdi. Yeni cığırlar açdıq, yeni dillər öyrəndik,
bizə uzaq mədəniyyətlərdən olan insanlarla ünsiyyətdə olduq, dostlaşdıq və ən
əsası qarşımıza çıxan çətinliklərin öhdəsindən əsl komanda kimi gəldik.

Bu proqramda bizimlə olan hər kəsə təşəkkür edirik!

We are excited to share some more great news with you!

The big adventure we’ve been preparing for since the winter months has now come
to an end.

In September, the 100-day exchange program organized by the Caucasus
Conservation Corps Program between Azerbaijan and Georgia was successfully
completed.

During these 100 days, the program participants received technical training on
trail building, developed leadership and other soft skills, became part of a
cultural exchange between countries, and managed camps composed of international
and local volunteers.

So much happened in these 100 days. We built new trails, learned new languages,
connected with people from different cultural backgrounds, made friends, and
most importantly, overcame challenges as a true team.

A huge thank you to everyone who was with us on this journey!

First impressions of Armenia!

We have been here for a week now and enjoyed every bit of it. It's October and
the weather is perfect. Already a bit of fall foliage but still a whopping 25° C
today!

So far we have only explored the capital of Yerevan and Dilijan, among locals
known as 'Armenian Switzerland'.

Our days have been filled with hiking along the Transcaucasian trail, Monastery
hopping, and eating lots of 'Jingalov hats', a vegan Armenian flatbread roll
with a delicious mix of fresh herbs inside!

Next up on our itinerary are the Lori region and the Debed Canyon, the cute town
of Goris, an abandoned cave village called Old Khndzoresk, and the Caucasian
Wildlife Refuge.

„Jak zwykle na moich wyprawach bardziej obawiam się ludzi niż zwierząt. Przede
wszystkim miałam wątpliwości związane z pasterzami żyjącymi po kilka miesięcy
samotnie w górach.

W praktyce okazało się, że mieszkają tam z całymi rodzinami i nikt mnie nie
nagabywał. Zresztą miejscowa ludność bardzo mnie wspierała.

Jako samotna Europejka przemierzająca Kaukaz byłam dla nich ciekawostką. Jednak
przede wszystkim niepokoili się, że się zgubiłam i potrzebuję pomocy.

Często zapraszali mnie na poczęstunki lub noclegi. Raz o 21:00 rozkładałam po
ciemku namiot, gdy nagle pojawił się pasterz z latarką i koniem. Pomyślałam, że
moje obawy się sprawdziły, a finalnie zostałam ugoszczona przez jego rodzinę w
obozowisku.

Z dnia na dzień nabierałam ufności do Kaukazu. Czułam się tam bezpieczniej niż
na szlakach europejskich.”
