Talks between Ukraine and Russian officials at the Ukraine-Russia border were also in focus. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -1.16% dropped 478 points, or 1.4%, to 33,581, while the S&P 500 SPX, -0.78% dropped 1.1% to 4,338 and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.25% slumped 0.6% to 13,613. Over the weekend, Western countries moved to remove more Russian banks from the SWIFT interbank messaging system and took aim at Russia's central bank.
