 * World Vision and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR)
   organized a lessons learned workshop on November 2021, ensuring the results
   achieved by USAID’s ‘Nobo Jatra – new beginning’ project sustain and families
   stay resilient in the long term. Key representatives from Government
   including Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman MP, Honorable State Minister, MoDMR, Mr. Md.
   Mohsin, Secretary, MoDMR, USAID, donors, private sector and academia shared
   experiences and lessons learned from Nobo Jatra to support stakeholders
   effectively carry forward key sustainable services to strengthen the food
   security, nutrition and livelihoods of poor and extreme poor people in
   Bangladesh.

 * Honorable Additional Secretary Md. Moyazzem Hossain of Ministry of Disaster
   Management and Relief (3rd from the left) is visiting Chamok Reverse Osmosis
   (RO) water treatment plant in Dacope on January, 2021 to observe how the RO
   plant works to ensure sustainable safe water for the communities in southwest
   Bangladesh.

 * “Independence in my eyes is having a farm where I grow vegetables, cultivate
   fish and rear ducks – and teach others how to do the same!” Says Ayesha
   Khatun, one of the 199 lead farmers in southwest Bangladesh capacitated by
   USAID’s Nobo Jatra Project in climate smart agricultural technologies and
   eco-friendly farming techniques.

 * “Our crops are climate resilient, I earn 20,000 Taka on average per month and
   invest that for the quality education of my children!” says Rabbani Sarder,
   one of the 199 USAID’s Nobo Jatra project trained lead farmers in southwest
   Bangladesh whose production and income increased threefold using climate
   smart agricultural techniques and organic fertilizer.

   US Ambassador Earl R. Miller visited Nobo Jatra working areas in Dacope.
   Accompanied by World Vision Bangladesh National Director and Nobo Jatra Chief
   of Party, the Ambassador interacted with lead farmers to observe climate
   smart agriculture and local entrepreneurs with hatcheries.

OUR GOAL




USAID’s Nobo Jatra – New Beginning activity, implemented by World Vision
Bangladesh works to improve gender equitable food security, nutrition and
resilience for vulnerable populations in south west Bangladesh.


OUR PURPOSES





IMPROVED NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF CHILDREN UNDER FIVE YEARS OF AGE, PREGNANT AND
LACTATING WOMEN AND ADOLESCENT GIRLS



 * Improved utilization of WASH practices
 * Reduced adolescent pregnancy
 * Increased equitable intake of nutritious food
 * Increased practice of gender equitable norms in the household (food
   distribution, work load, supporting environment, and decision making)




INCREASED EQUITABLE HOUSEHOLD INCOME



 * Increased diversification of livelihoods for graduation participants
 * Increased production of safe, diverse and nutritious-foods


STRENGTHENED GENDER EQUITABLE ABILITY OF PEOPLE, HOUSEHOLDS, COMMUNITIES AND

   Agriculture) to meet the needs of vulnerable men & women
 * Increased responsiveness of government service providers (H&N, DRR, AgE,
   social protection) to meet the needs of vulnerable men and women
 * Vulnerable communities raise demand on social & technical services


OUR COMPONENTS





MATERNAL CHILD HEALTH & NUTRITION (MCHN)




Nobo Jatra works to change childcare behaviors, improve intra-household food
allocation, and integrate MCHN services and messages with GoB and private health
care providers to improve nutritional status of CU5 and caregivers.


WATER, SANITATION & HYGIENE (WASH)




Nobo Jatra aims to reduce incidences of diarrhoea among children under 5 through
improving access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene for poor and
marginalized communities.


AGRICULTURE & LIVELIHOODS




Nobo Jatra supports vulnerable men and women to increase their income and access
to nutritious food through entrepreneurial literacy, agriculture and alternative
livelihoods with an emphasis on approaches with potential for high involvement
and low barriers to entry for women and youth.


GENDER




As a cross cutting area, the project makes continuous efforts to ensure women’s
equitable participation, improve access to/control over resources and increase
decision-making power.


GOOD GOVERNANCE & SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY




The social accountability gender integration strategy will focus on facilitating
women’s access to leadership positions, leadership training and strengthening
their role in decision making.


DISASTER RISK REDUCTION




Nobo Jatra works towards improvements in household and community resilience in
the southwest coastal context through coordinated and focused support of
multiple actors including households and communities themselves.
