MREYE GROUP

advancing eye care through applied imaging science

We are a multidisciplinary research group embedded in the C.J. Gorter MRI
Center, and the LUMC departments of Ophthalmology, Radiology and Radiation
Oncology. We develop and evaluate new MRI-techniques to advance the care for
patients with ocular conditions. Currently, a large part of our research
focusses on uveal melanoma, the most common type of eye cancer in the
Netherlands.

MAIN RESEARCH TOPICS

 *
   MRI FOR OCULAR ONCOLOGY

   New MRI technologies to improve the care for eye tumor patients.

 *
   OCULAR PROTON THERAPY

   Through MR-based radiotherapy planning we aim to preserve more of the
   patient’s vision.

 *
   VISUAL OPTICS

   Patient-specific optical simulations to unravel the origin of various ocular
   conditions.

BEST PRESENTATION AWARD AT PROTON THERAPY CONFERENCE

Today, we attended the Second International PTCOG Ocular Proton Therapy
Symposium 2024! We enjoyed the interesting talks, lively discussions and pizza
breaks. And of course, we’re very proud of Corné Haasjes, who received the Best
Presentation Award for his talk ‘Optical aberration correction of fundus
photographs for ocular proton therapy planning’.

INTERVIEW IN RESULTAAT

Every year, the Dutch Research Council (NWO) publishes “Resultaat”, a magazine
highlighting last year’s ground-breaking, surprising and above all socially
relevant scientific results from the previous year. The 2023 edition features an
interview with members of our group on the impact of our MRI technologies on the
lives of patients with eye cancer.
