WELCOME TO BAWTRY MAYFLOWER PRIMARY SCHOOL

Welcome to our new school website!

I hope that you enjoy finding out all about Bawtry Mayflower Primary School and
the exciting learning that happens here.

Bawtry Mayflower is a Local Authority maintained primary school on the outskirts
of Doncaster. We serve the communities of Bawtry and Austerfield which are both
steeped in history.

On behalf of the children, staff and Governors, I welcome you to Bawtry
Mayflower Primary School in Bawtry, Doncaster. We are a vibrant, inclusive and
family orientated school with a strong community ethos within South Yorkshire. I
am so proud to be Head of this caring community of learners with a fantastic
staff team, dedicated Governors, supportive parents and happy, engaged children.

Selecting a school for your child is a daunting process and I realise how
important it is to feel trust in the people that care for your child each day.
Each of our staff is highly dedicated and will always go the extra mile to
ensure that every child is valued, inspired and engaged. We are extremely proud
of the curriculum that we have in school. It has been produced by our staff, for
our children and community and uses the principles of cognitive science to
ensure that the children are happy, independent learners who achieve their very
best.

We have mixed classes throughout school starting in our Foundation Stage Unit
where nursery and reception children learn together. This academic year we have
3 Year 1/2 classes, 2 Year 3/4 classes and 2 Year 5/6 classes. Our teachers are
experts at planning for, and teaching and assessing, mixed age classes and our
curriculum is planned to support this.

We believe that education is about the entire child, their well-being and
enrichment as well as their academic achievement. Over the last year, we have
worked as a team to enhance the academic success, curriculum and outdoor
environment and appearance of our school and there is still more to come! We’d
love you to be a part of our journey as we strive for our entire community to
BELIEVE, ACHIEVE AND SUCCEED.

We are all very proud of our school, of its commitment to high standards and of
its inclusive ethos and we would be delighted to show you around should you wish
to find out more about us.

Kind regards,

Mrs Lisa Powell

Headteacher

WEEKLY BLOG FRIDAY 21ST JULY 2023 21 JUL 2023

Attendance Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who
has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week, Mrs Birkinshaw's
class had the highest attendance with 97.58%. Well done Year 1/2C! Please see
below for the attendance figures for this week. Nursery - 88.24% Reception -
75.25% Year 1/2A (Mrs Davies) - 94.71% Year 1/2B (Miss Cruickshanks) - 92.06%
Year 1/2C (Mrs Birkinshaw) - 97.58% Year 3/4A (Mrs Wood) - 89.96% Year 3/4B (Mrs
Parkes/Mrs Ronan) - 96.53% Year 5/6A (Miss Dunn) - 91.48% Year 5/6B (Mrs
Pickersgill/Mrs Walker) - 93.83% Stars of the week Each week in our Friday
Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher
chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them.
The children who have been chosen as the stars of the week this week will find
out and receive their certificates and stickers in our final celebration
assembly of this school year on Monday. Message for our Year 6 children To our
Year 6 children – where on earth do we start?! You have given us so many
memories over the course of this year: ones that will make us smile; ones that
will make us laugh and even ones that will make us roll our eyes but we will
treasure each and every one of them. You have made us feel the full range of
emotions this year but the overwhelming one, and the one that we will finish
this year with, is pride. We are proud of the determination and resilience that
you have shown and when it comes to your learning, we simply could not ask for
any more – you have given your final year at Bawtry Mayflower your all and
we could not be prouder of all that you have achieved. You have taught us some
things along the way too – patience and tolerance being some of these, not
to mention the wide array of new vocabulary that we have been able to add to our
repertoires! As you embark on the next part of your journey, you have so many
exciting opportunities and experiences waiting for you and we hope that you
embrace them all with courage and determination; with the risk of sounding
cliché, the world really is your oyster (we never really understood that
saying either!) and all the decisions that you make from this point on will
determine the path that you take in life so make the very best of them all. Our
advice to you moving on is simple: stand up for what’s right and speak out
against what isn’t; champion others – celebrate in the successes of
your friends and support them when they stumble; and above all, in a world where
you can be anything, be kind. You are all unique and that’s what makes you
who you are so always be yourself. Thank you for the memories and good luck with
the next part of your journey. We can’t wait to hear all about your
achievements in the future. Miss Dunn and Mrs Pickersgill Year 6 Leavers
Assembly Tuesday 25th July On Tuesday 25th July, we will hold our annual Leavers
Assembly for our Year 6 families. This will start at 1pm promptly. Please come
to the school office to sign in and the office staff will then direct you
through to where the assembly is being held. Please ensure you arrive on time,
as all the staff want to say goodbye to the Year 6 children and will therefore
be in the assembly from 1pm onwards. Once the leavers assembly has finished, the
children can leave with their families and younger siblings. Year 6 photo in
Doncaster Free Press If your child is in Year 6 and was included in the year
group photo recently for the Doncaster Free Press, we have been asked to inform
you that the newspaper including the photo is now on sale in retail outlets
priced at £1.60 (subject to availability). If you pre-ordered this edition
of the newspaper, these were delivered to school this week and should have come
home with your child tonight. Last day of school Tuesday 25th July On the last
day of term, all children can be collected from 1.45pm onwards. Please come to
the school office and a member of staff will bring your child/children to you as
soon as they can. Change of training day for the next school year One of the
training days has now been changed for the next school year. There will now no
longer be a training day on Monday 30th October. The training days for the next
school year will now be as follows: Monday 4th September 2023 Monday 3rd June
2024 Tuesday 4th June 2024 (this is the changed date and replaces the training
day which was planned for 30th October 2023) Monday 22nd July 2024 Tuesday 23rd
July 2024 These have been updated on the website calendar and a new school
holiday calendar which will include these dates will be available to view from
the beginning of next week on the 'For Parents' section of our website by
clicking on 'Term Dates'. Meeting for Caythorpe Residential in September If your
child is currently in Year 5, you will be aware that the Year 6 residential will
take place between 27thand 29th September 2023. A parents meeting has been
arranged on Thursday 7thSeptember at 4pm to provide parents and carers with the
necessary information for this trip. A kit list has been sent home with your
child this week so that you know what your child will need to bring with them in
advance. Any questions, as always, please just ask. Miss Dunn. Consent
form/regular visit consent form If your child is in Reception to Year 5 and you
haven't yet returned your completed consent form and/or regular visit consent
form, please ensure this is returned to your child's class teacher next week. We
want to ensure that we have everyone's forms back by the end of term, so that we
have them in place ready for September. Colour Run Yesterday, our PTA held
Mayflower's first ever Colour Run. We were not sure what to expect but the
excitement during the morning was amazing!! What a fantastic event! We are sure
those of you who took part with your children/grandchildren will agree that it
was a fabulous, fun-filled event. The children absolutely loved getting covered
in paint and also loved seeing their families and staff members covered too!!
Thank you to our PTA team for organising this event and to all the helpers for
making it so brilliant. Here are a small selection of the many photos that were
taken on the day. We will add more to our website at the beginning of next term.
Music Concerts Last Friday, the children who have guitar and woodwind tuition in
school and our Year 6 children, who have taken part in Doncaster Music Hub's
Wider Opportunities brass lessons this year, performed a concert for their
families and the rest of the school. We are so proud of every single one of the
children who took part. If they were nervous, they certainly didn't let it show
and treated everyone to some beautiful music. The sound that the children made
on their guitars was beautiful and Miss Hill was a super proud teacher. The
children have worked really hard for Miss Hill this year and all the practise
definitely paid off. Elodie played some clarinet solos for everyone and blew us
all away! You are amazing Elodie! For someone of 9 years old to be able to play
the clarinet like that is really special - keep up the hard work and who knows
where your musical talents will take you! Our brass band finished off the
concert for us and Mr Latimer was incredibly proud of each and every one of the
children. The children have worked really hard in their brass sessions this year
and worked really well as a team which definitely showed in the concert. Well
done everyone! Rocksteady Concert Earlier this week, the children who have been
taking part in the weekly Rocksteady music lessons performed for their families
and the rest of school. Alex, the band leader, was thrilled with how the
children performed. They were self-assured and confident and it seemed like they
had been playing for years! They treated everyone to a wide variety of different
songs and each group made sure that the audience got louder and louder with
their cheers! Special mention to Max and George who performed 'Living on a
prayer' to finish the concert - it was so good they performed it twice! Who knew
we had so many budding rock stars in our midst?! If you are interested in your
child continuing or starting their journey with Rocksteady music lessons, please
see the information below for how to sign your child up to these for next term.
Dance performances This week, the children who have taken part in the dance
after school clubs performed an end of term show for their families. On Monday,
our Key Stage 1 children kicked the performances off and treated their families
to a superb show! There were tricks and lifts galore! It was the Key Stage 2
children's turn on Wednesday and again, they wowed everyone with their moves!
The children have all loved their dance lessons this term and the smiles on
their faces during the performances really proved this. We would like to thank
Paige from Cre8ive Dance who has led the dance sessions. She certainly knows how
to get the best out of the children and we look forward to seeing some more
fantastic dance talent when our dance clubs start up again after the summer
holidays. After School Clubs from September If your child has been allocated a
place on an after school club for September, please ensure that you log in to
ParentPay by Friday 1st September to make the required payment. Year 6
performance Well I’m sure that when you started Year 6, you couldn’t
even imagine that we would be finishing the year in dresses, make up and
hoodies. Did we Zak?? What a superb performance this afternoon! So what a year
they have had. Right from the very start, this Year 6 class have been
wonderfully unique. They have packed a great deal in and have shown themselves
individually to be thoughtful, brave, accepting of challenge, fun, curious,
motivated, socially conscious, passionate speakers and communicators, hard
workers but most of all able to take responsibility for their future and
learning and most of all great fun. If I was to list some of the things that
they have achieved, I’d be here all day – but a few of them are:
Edscape(opologists!) Pupil voice groups Sports leaders Rocksteady performers
EYFS buddies Phonics buddies Crea8ive Dancers Robin and Sherwood Hoodies and
performers An orchestra Maths stories writers Activists for change Danum read
aloud winners Amazing end of year outcomes Mini tennis stars and so much more
This performance today has been a celebration of their time at Bawtry Mayflower
where they have grown as confident, articulate children who feel empowered to
perform by the love and support from you; their families. A huge thank you to
the staff and support that has made today happen. Mrs Pickersgill who has turned
into a very serious director of the performing arts, and Miss Dunn for her
reassurance and positivity that it will all be amazing which it certainly was
wasn’t it! But Year 6. Your individuality and confidence is what has made
this special. We hope you know that we are immensely proud of you, - we know
that you will continue to SHINE. You represent all that is good, providing hope
and joy in our lives. You will have bright futures, happy and fulfilled lives
because you know what you can achieve. And believe me when I say that I knew you
all well (and yes some had more office time than others). But remember; be kind
– always! Show love and be caring, and continue to work hard for your
dreams, whatever they may be, because that’s what WE all dream for you
all. Thank you all for coming and supporting them today – and laughing at
all the right parts too. We look forward to seeing you all next Tuesday, but if
that’s not possible and this is even your last time at Bawtry with your
child. Thank you for everything. Mrs Powell Recognition Board Success
Congratulations to the children below who have received their Recognition badges
from Mrs Powell recently. They all got their names under all 3 categories on the
Recognition board - Work Hard, Be Kind and Be Respectful. Well done everyone! If
your child has been awarded with their Recognition Badge recently and hasn't yet
appeared on one of our Friday blogs, please email
admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk and we will make sure we celebrate their
success on one of our future blogs. Congratulations! Evie from Reception wanted
to share with everyone her sunflower. She planted it at school a few weeks
before Easter and brought it home when it started to grow. She’s taken
good care of it and now it’s almost as tall as she is! Owen, also from
Reception, was recently awarded his Stage 1 swimming certificate. Well done
Owen! You must have worked really hard to get that certificate. We know you love
swimming so we can't wait to share your next certificate on our weekly blog.
Well done! PTA Shops after school next week Our PTA will be having an end of
year sale after school on Monday and Tuesday next week. There will be drinks,

WEEKLY BLOG FRIDAY 14TH JULY 2023 14 JUL 2023

Attendance Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who
has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week, Mrs Wood's class
had the highest attendance with 98.92%. Well done Year 3/4A! Please see below
for the attendance figures for this week. Nursery - 97.65% Reception - 95.96%
Year 1/2A (Mrs Davies) - 96.83% Year 1/2B (Miss Cruickshanks) - 96.83% Year 1/2C
(Mrs Birkinshaw) - 96.14% Year 3/4A (Mrs Wood) - 98.92% Year 3/4B (Mrs
Parkes/Mrs Ronan) - 93.06% Year 5/6A (Miss Dunn) - 96.67% Year 5/6B (Mrs
Pickersgill/Mrs Walker) - 95.88% Stars of the week Each week in our Friday
Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher
chooses 2 children from their class each week who have really impressed them.
Foundation We would like all of Nursery and Reception to be our stars this week
for all being superstars on the trip! 1/2A Mrs Davies,1/2B Miss Cruickshanks
&1/2C Mrs Birkinshaw Our stars of the week are: Jenson - for having a
fabulous transition into Year 3. His ideas for a creature based on the Barnabas
Project were amazingly creative. Layla - for having a fantastic transition into
Year 3. Her writing was so effective that Mrs Wood thinks she could move
straight to Year 4! Fletcher - for having a fantastic transition into Year 3. He
really impressed Mrs Miller with his fantastic team work. Leo C - for having a
fabulous transition into Year 2. He tried really hard in all activities and
produced a beautiful piece of art based on his favourite book. James H - for a
fabulous transition into Year 2. He was actively engaged in all the activities
and gave some brilliant suggestions throughout the day. Libby - for a fantastic
transition into Year 2. She was a great role model for the rest of the class and
tried really hard with all activities. 3/4A Mrs Wood Hermione for working hard
during the transition days. She used her artistic and writing skills to produce
an excellent piece of work which demonstrated all of the learning from Year 3
and proved that she is ready to move on to Year 4. Her behaviour and attitude to
her work were both outstanding! Jayden for showing real imagination and
determination during the transition days. Jayden's imagination and creativity
were super when creating his 'failed project' creature and his determination to
present his work to the highest standard was great to see. Excellent! 3/4B Mrs
Parkes/Mrs Ronan Brandon and Amelie - both children worked collaboratively to
complete a project about the Ancient Egyptians. They worked hard and were
determined to complete their research to the best of their abilities. Their new
teachers were very impressed with their positive attitudes during transition.
Keep it up! 5/6A Miss Dunn & 5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker This week, we
have been focusing on transition and our Year 5 children, as our new Year 6
cohort from September, have been deciding what they would like the adults and
other children in school to say about them. They decided that they would like to
be seen as hardworking, well-mannered, responsible and polite - among many other
attributes - and this week's Stars of the Week have been chosen with this in
mind. Annabelle - through transition this week, Annabelle has shown that she is
ready to step up to being in Year 6 in September. She has worked hard in all
lessons and has shown that she is kind, polite and respectful at all times. Ella
- Ella has shown that she is ready for Year 6 in September; this week she has
made an extra effort to be kind and be respectful and she has helped to guide
the younger children in KS2 when they were unsure about the rules at lunchtime.
Joey - Joey has shown that he will be a responsible, respectful member of Year 6
who can always follow the rules - even when no-one is watching. He has made the
right choices this week and has not allowed himself to be influenced by others.
Carson - during transition this week, Carson has proven that he is ready for
Year 6 in September. He has strived to be all of the things that, as a class, we
decided Year 6 should be and I look forward to seeing more of this next academic
year. Uniform orders for September & change of supplier As advised earlier
this week, our current uniform supplier has been in touch to advise that their
prices have gone up significantly. We don’t feel that we can justify
passing this cost on to parents/carers so have taken the decision to source a
different uniform provider. The provider we have chosen still uses the same
manufacturer as our current uniform; however, to keep prices down we have made
the decision to move to sweatshirts and new-style cardigans rather than the
knitted style that we sell currently. The price of each item will now be as
follows:Sweatshirts up to age 13-14 (size 34”) £11Sweatshirts age
15-16 and above (size 36” and above) £16Cardigans up to age 13-14
(size 34”) £12Cardigans age 15-16 and above (size 36” and
above) £16Coats up to age 13-14 (size 34”) £18Book bag
£6.50PE bag £5.50Ties will remain the same price which is
£4.50 and both elastic and non-elastic are available (please ensure you
order the correct one on ParentPay). If you would like to view the new style
sweatshirts/cardigans, please come to the school office.Unfortunately, we do not
have enough stock to fulfil all the orders that have been placed so far for
September. It may therefore be necessary to look at orders by the date they were
received and you may therefore receive a sweatshirt/new style cardigan rather
than the one purchased. However, if this becomes the case, we will of course
provide a refund of the difference for you.In view of this change, we have
extended the uniform order deadline to next Wednesday, 19th July. As advised
previously, we cannot guarantee that any orders received after this date will be
ready to collect before the children return to school in September. As a
reminder, all the uniform orders can be collected from the school office on
Monday 4th September, as this is a training day and school is closed to pupils
on that day. Move Up Day All the children had a fantastic day yesterday on their
transition day with their new teachers. They completed an art activity, as well
as some other group activities. All the teachers were so impressed with how the
children responded to moving up to the next year group and can't wait for the
children to be with them all the time in September. We were also so impressed
with our new Nursery and Reception children, who said goodbye to their
parents/carers and went straight into class. The children who will be in
Reception in September also stayed for dinner yesterday and got a taste of the
delicious meals that our catering team produce for us every day. They all coped
so well with their new surroundings and we can't wait to get to know them and
their families over the coming months. Entering/leaving school safely Could we
please remind parents/carers that they should use the paths rather than the
driveways when entering and leaving school. There have been some instances of
families walking up the Station Road driveway recently who have become
frustrated with visitors who are driving in to park their cars, so we would
appreciate it for everyone's safety if the paths could be used from now on
please. Year 6 travel pass If your child is in Year 6, they should have brought
home a Zoom Under 16 travel pass leaflet today. The travel pass helps young
people under 16 to travel around South Yorkshire for less and applications are
now open. Pupils who live in South Yorkshire can apply for a pass to prove to
bus drivers, tram conductors and ticket sellers that they are entitled to a
concessionary fare on public transport. With a Zoom Under 16 Travel Pass they
can travel anytime, anywhere in South Yorkshire for a single fare of 80p per

please. No tickets will be available on the day of the event, so please ensure
tickets are purchased by the end of next Wednesday at the latest. On the day of
the event, children MUST be wearing old clothes and shoes/trainers, as they will
get wet and covered in paint during the event. A white t-shirt is the most
effective to wear as it will show the paint the best. Protective eyewear
(glasses/goggles) MUST be worn throughout the event - if those wanting to take
part don't have eyewear, they won't be able to join in. If you are participating
as a family, please arrive at the office via the Station Road gate by 1pm to

event, with all items priced at £1. There will also be a glitter make-up
stall priced at £1. Please note, the gates will ONLY re-open at the end of
the event, not during the event, so please only buy a family ticket if you are

for this). Please come to the school office to sign in and the office staff will
then direct you through to where the assembly is being held. Please ensure you
arrive on time, as all the staff want to say goodbye to the Year 6 children and
will therefore be in the assembly from 1pm onwards. Once the leavers assembly
has finished, the children can leave with their families and younger siblings.

be collected from 1.45pm onwards. Please come to the school office and a member

do find any, please return them to your child's class teacher before the end of
term. Mrs Powell's Superstar Trophy Was your child awarded with Mrs Powell's
Superstar trophy recently? Do they still have it at home, as Mrs Powell has two
trophies and there is currently only one in school? If your child still has it
at home, could they please return it next week. Reception visit to Austerfield
Last week, our Nursery and Reception children went to Austerfield Study Centre.
They took part in a wide variety of activities and had the most fantastic time.
Some of the children wanted to share with us their experience at Austerfield.
Thomas - we went fishing and pond dipping. We used a net and caught some fish.
The pond dipping was my favourite bit. Seren - we found some creatures. We were
in groups looking for the creatures. We used some tools - paintbrushes, pots, a
spoon, a tub and a net. I found 2 woodlice and a big beetle. Henry - we went in
the mini-beast garden looking for creatures. Some rocks had been hidden in that
garden. There were 8 painted rocks; we needed to find them and cross them off
our sheet. Emilia - I saw a grasshopper and we put it in a pot to see it bigger.
The pot had a magnifying glass on top of it. Consent form/regular visit consent
form If your child is in Reception to Year 5 and you haven't yet returned your
completed consent form and/or regular visit consent form, please ensure this is
returned to your child's class teacher next week. We want to ensure that we have
everyone's forms back by the end of term, so that we have them in place ready
for September. Midday Supervisor Vacancy We currently have a Midday Supervisor

Attendance Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class who
has achieved the highest attendance for that week. This week, our Nursery class
had the highest attendance with 96.47%. Well done Nursery! Please see below for
the attendance figures for this week. Nursery - 96.47% Reception - 90.91% Year
1/2A (Mrs Davies) - 94.71% Year 1/2B (Miss Cruickshanks) - 95.77% Year 1/2C (Mrs
Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor) - 91.79% Year 3/4A (Mrs Wood) - 95.70% Year 3/4B (Mrs
Perry) - 95.83% Year 5/6A (Miss Dunn) - 89.63% Year 5/6B (Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs
Walker) - 95.92% Stars of the week Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly,
we celebrate our stars of the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from
their class each week who have really impressed them. Foundation Jacob in
Reception has worked really hard this week in his writing. He has used his
imagination and written lots of really good ideas about where he could go with a
magic crayon. Aliza-Mae has worked hard to learn her phonic sounds in Read,
Write, Inc. She always listens hard and tries her best. 1/2A Mrs Davies Jesse -
This week, he has had a super attitude to learning! He has tried really hard in
all subjects but especially in writing where he has produced a super piece of
work! Isabella - This week, Isabella has been so motivated in her writing
sessions. She has produced a super piece of work about the life cycle of a
sunflower that included adverbs, adjectives and a simile - it was amazing! 1/2B
Miss Cruickshanks Jenson - For being an absolute superstar!! He has been so
motivated and is really becoming a confident, independent learner. Keep it
going!! Scarlett - This week, she has had a fantastic attitude towards all
aspects of school life and for being a true friend to all in KS1. 1/2C Mrs
Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor James -For being an absolute superstar!!He works hard in
all subjects and is so motivated to do his very best and complete his work to
the highest standard. Well done James! Leo T - for being wonderful in his
attitude towards his learning in all subjects! We are so proud of his motivation
and resilience and what an impact this has had upon his learning - keep it
going! 3/4A Mrs Wood Max - for always being kind and caring to other children.
He checks in on people he thinks need a friend and he checks in on the adults to
see if they need help. He read the class story beautifully for Mrs Wood, kept
the class listening carefully and even managed to use 1,2,3 to ensure the class
left the room quietly! Ella D - Ella has worked incredibly hard in maths. She
understood a tricky method and showed in her work how good she was at it. She
had a reallight bulb moment and shared her excitement with everyone! Fantastic
Ella! 3/4B Mrs Perry Jack P: For working hard. He has shown fantastic focus this
week in all areas of the curriculum. He has succeeded especially in maths,
showing understanding of multiplication and division when using arrays. He also
used his knowledge well when discussing the mummification process. Well done!
Sophia B: For working hard. She has participated well in all lessons this week
and showed good knowledge during our Humanity lessons about Ancient Egypt. Keep
it up! 5/6A Miss Dunn This week in school, we have been celebrating the
75thbirthday of the NHS and recognising the continued and consistent support
given by them to members of the public. In Year 5/6A this week, I have been
noticing those children who have a similar approach to their learning - who are
consistently following the school rules of be kind, be respectful and work hard,
and are continuing to do this right up until, what is now, almost the end of the
year. This week's Stars of the Week have been chosen with this in mind. Amelia -
Amelia's approach to her learning and to our three school rules is always
consistent. She meets each and every rule every day, and can always be relied
upon to provide an excellent example for others to follow. This is noticed all
the time Amelia and I appreciate all that you bring to our class. Lily - Lily
has a consistent, exemplary approach to her learning and to how she treats
others and this never wavers. She can always be depended upon to provide an
excellent example for others to follow and she makes the right choices all of
the time. I notice all that you do Lily and I appreciate you. 5/6B Mrs
Pickersgill/Mrs Walker Jack E - Jack has worked hard throughout the rehearsals
and is taking his responsibility for his part in the end of KS2 production
seriously; he has taken his own time to annotate his script to ensure that he
knows when to play the music. Evie - Evie has been a real asset this week; she
has helped to make and prepare the props for the play and has scoured school to
find the resources that we need. Thank you for all of your help and hard work.

child's class photo and would like to, the deadline to order for free delivery

rearranged Meet The Teacher session Miss Scott apologises for not being able to
make the 'Meet The Teacher' session this week. She is really looking forward to
meeting her new class and will be available in the Year 3 classroom next
Wednesday, 12th July from 3pm to 4pm for her 'Meet The Teacher' session. The
session will be a drop-in session; please collect your child as normal at the
end of the school day and then wait on the top playground for Miss Scott to
welcome you in to the classroom. Sponsored Read We recently asked the children
to take part in a sponsored read to raise funds to buy some new books for our
libraries. The total raised was £391.10 which is fantastic. We will
receive some additional funding from the bookseller that we partnered with so
will be able to purchase some really lovely books for our library. Thank you to
those who took part and collected sponsor money - we hope you enjoyed it. Midday

Bawtry Arts Festival Artwork This week, a group of our Year 6 children walked to
Market Place in Bawtry with Mrs Powell to complete some artwork on the bus
shelter there. This was one of the final parts to be completed for the Bawtry
Arts Festival and an artist arrived after the children had finished their
doodles to seal the artwork for posterity. We were really pleased to be asked to
take part in this and the children had a great time completing their work.
Celebrating the NHS On Wednesday, all the children and staff wore blue to mark
the 75th anniversary of our NHS. We raised £190.75 for the Eve Merton
Dreams Trust, so thank you to all those who were able to donate for our
non-uniform day. As part of the day, Mrs Powell had arranged for one of our
super-talented parents to make some brownies that could be given as a gift to
those family members who were nominated for their dedication to the NHS. Those
who were nomiated also received one of two cards which were designed by Lorna
and Elizabeth in Year 6. Those who received the gift and card were overwhelmed
and we had some lovely feedback from some of the recipients. Bawtry Does
Wimbledon Miss Fairweather organised 'Bawtry Does Wimbledon' last week for
children and staff. The children had the opportunity to take part in tennis
matches during the day and the event culminated in a staff competition with Mrs
Powell and Mrs Perry competing against Mrs Taylor and Miss Fairweather. We would
like to thank Miss Fairweather for organising the event and are pleased to say
that her and Mrs Taylor won the staff competition! Well done to all the worthy
winners! And well done to everyone who took part and to those who cheered the
players on - it really was a fantastic event. Year 6 Residential to Caythorpe We
promised on last week's blog that we would share some more photos etc from the
Year 6 residential which took place last week. Some children have shared with us
their thoughts about their time at Caythorpe. Layla - I can't choose my
favourite part of being at Caythorpe, as it was all so good! The activities were
a perfect mix of scary and fun! Lucy D - I loved the food and the trapeze. The
trapeze was great and was really fun. I climbed above the trees and had to jump
from the top and try and get a bar that was swinging. I held on, then let go and
got lowered to the ground with my harness on. Maddie - I really liked the
vertical challenge in the high ropes. I was shaking really bad but felt like I'd
achieved something. I was the first one to do it. The high ropes was also fun
because Mrs Pickersgill got really excited about having a turn. She had to wait
so she didn't get as many turns as she wanted! Robert - Archery tag and raft
building were my favourites. Archery tag was like medieval style dodgeball and
was really interesting. In the raft building, our boat was like the Titanic and
had a giant hole in the middle and was breaking apart! Rowan - In canoeing, I
was about to get out but Zak got out first, the canoe capsized and flooded the
boat. My feet were really wet and I was freezing! Zach - I really liked raft
building and capture the flag. When we were playing capture the flag me, Harry
and Riley J worked on some tactics where Harry went through the middle and me
and Riley J went up both sides. We got the flag every time!! Congratulations!
Evie in Year 2 wanted to share with us that she danced her very first dance show
on Sunday at The Cast. She did absolutely amazing despite coming home from the
show with chicken pox! It was a Mamma Mia themed show and Evie took part in four
dances for Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary. Her favourite was her lyrical
dance to ‘I have a dream’. Mummy loved Evie’s jazz dance to
Voulez-Vouz as it was full of shimmies and sass! Well done Evie! Zara and Esme,
both in Year 4, attend Mini Players at Bawtry Phoenix Theatre. Last Saturday,
they performed in a show called Pirates. Well done to both of you - it looks
like you had a great time! PTA Colour Run 20th July 1.15pm Summer Activities

Good understanding of the Handa’s Surprise story, demonstrated through a
very detailed story map of the journey that Handa took in the story. Louie
– For listening well at story time and being confident enough to offer his
thoughts about the story that they were reading together. 1/2A Mrs Davies Sadie
- for being a lovely friend and going out of her way to make others feel
included. She is polite and thoughtful. She always looks out for others and
helps them when she can. Maddie S - for being the most inclusive child we know!
She will play with anyone, including them in her games. She is caring and
thoughtful and understanding - and gives amazing hugs. Joseph - for including
other children in his imaginative games at playtime. He treats everyone the same
- with respect. This is why he is such a popular member of the class. 1/2B Miss
Cruickshanks Oscar M - For being a ray of sunshine. For having the feelings and
emotions of others in mind in all he says and does and for just accepting people
for exactly who they are. James B - For always showing the upmost respect to
others around him, for being an empathetic and caring member of the class who is
cherished by his peers. 1/2C Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor Natalie - she has worked
really hard this week in all areas of learning. She has been trying her best to
complete her work to a high standard. Natalie has joined in all group work; she
has been so supportive of others and has brought a smile to everyone's face.
Ellie - She comes into our class everyday with a great big smile on her face,
bringing joy to everyone in the class. She has been so positive in her attitude
towards all her learning and we are so proud of her - keep it up! 3/4A Mrs Wood
Cameron has worked incredibly hard this week. She has shown how determined she
is by concentrating for long periods of time and checking all of her work
thoroughly. She has combined this with being really helpful in class and as
always, is polite and well-mannered! Ava B has had another fabulous week! She
has worked hard all week and has been an enormous help and support to other
children. She is kind, polite, well-mannered and incredibly helpful all of the
time! Fabulous! 3/4B Mrs Perry Noah: For having an amazing attitude, and
overcoming obstacles in order to complete his learning and assessments this week
Joe: For having a respectful, work hard attitude. He is showing a real maturity
in lessons and proving he is ready for what Year 4 has in store for him. 5/6A
Miss Dunn &5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker We are so proud of our Year 6
this week; we have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them out of school at
Caythorpe Court during residential. They have made us proud and we even managed
to get a little sleep! They all deserve to be this week's Stars of the Week but
we would especially like to highlight the following children: Maisie, Daniel,
Poppy, Jack, Layla, Lucy D, Zach, Alayna, Aimee, Evie, Zak, Robert, Amelia,
Erin, Lucy L and Riley P - these children approached all activities and
challenges with a smile on their face - even the slightly scary ones! They
showed such resilience and determination throughout and really pushed themselves
out of their comfort zones when trying new things. They all showed a fantastic
attitude towards all the activities and were supportive to their peers,
encouraging them and cheering them on. You represented our school in such a
positive way and we are so proud of all that you achieved. Nut Free School We
currently have children throughout school with a range of allergies and are a
nut free school. People who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe,
potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. If someone has a nut allergy, it
is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on
the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product
containing nuts can trigger anaphylactic shock (which can cause breathing and
swallowing difficulties). Most staff members in the school are trained to use
Epi-pens (an injection of adrenalin) which are required immediately if this
happens. School also has emergency Epi-pens in the event that a child’s
Epi-pen fails. We cannot have nuts in school in any form so please can we ask
that you do not put nut products in your child’s lunch box or that no nut
products are brought into school as a snack. For example: Peanut butter
sandwiches Chocolate spreads Cereal bars Some granola bars Cakes that contain
nuts Biscuits / Cookies that contain nuts Peanut butter cakes This list is not
exhaustive, so please check the packaging of products closely. We appreciate
that this is an additional thing to check but we know that you will recognise
the importance of it. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak
to a member of staff. Class Photos We have now sent out the links to enable
parents/carers to order the class photos which were taken a couple of weeks ago.
If you haven't yet ordered your child's class photo and would like to, the
deadline to order for free delivery back to school is Tuesday 11th July at the
very latest. If you wish, you can pay an additional charge of £5 to order
the photo to be delivered direct to your home address. You can of course order
after the deadline but there will be an additional charge of £5 for
postage and packing. If you need any assistance in ordering your photos, please
contact Tempest on 01736 751555 (option3). Consent Forms and Regular Visit Forms
If your child is in Reception to Year 5 and you haven't yet returned their
completed consent form or regular visit form, please ensure these are returned
next week. There will be a prize for the class who hands all their forms in
first, all correctly completed. Good luck! Uniform orders for September Don't
forget we are now accepting orders for uniform for September. If you would like

September, so it is really important that you order on time.If you order any

blog and also in our email earlier this week, we will be holding a 'Meet The
Teacher' session next Tuesday, 4th July from 3pm to 4pm. This will be an

Wednesday, the NHS celebrates its 75th birthday and I think you’ll all
agree we are all very grateful for all their hard work with the many people they
look after each and every day. There are a wide range of ways for you to get
involved with the NHS’s 75th birthday celebrations, from attending events
in your local area through to supporting the work of the NHS, for instance by
giving blood or joining the NHS Organ Donor Register. As a school, next Wednesday

mature towards being in a new classroom with a new teacher. We are so proud
Arthur - keep it up! Martha - We are so proud of how well Martha has coped with
the changes this week. She has coped so well with being in a new classroom and
in transition she was superb when meeting her new teacher. She had a great

excellent partner to a younger pupil, explaining carefully the different

confidence, resilience and determination have really made me proud. Keep
believing in yourself Millie! 5/6B Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker Annabelle - For
her hard work and determination. Sheenthusiastically embraces new learning

bravery by performing in front of everyone; delivering her lines with confidence

learning all of her lines. Well done Elizabeth! Mrs Perry's (Year 3/4B) class
assembly Monday 26th June Mrs Perry's class would like to invite their
parents/carers into school for their assembly this coming Monday, 26thJune. The
assembly will start at 10.15am, so if you can make it please ensure you arrive
at the school office in plenty of time to sign in.The theme of the assembly is
'Our Summer Term' and some children will be showing some examples of work that
they have done and talking about what they have enjoyed covering topics
including Ancient Egyptians, the Austerfield trip and Bawtry Heritage Story. We
look forward to seeing you then. Class Photos We have now received the links to
enable parents/carers to order the class photos which were taken last week.
These will be emailed to parents/carers via ParentPay on Monday. If you would
like to order your child's class photo, please order as soon as you can
following receipt of your email. Consent Forms and Regular Visit Forms If your
child is in Reception to Year 5 and you haven't yet returned their completed
consent form or regular visit form, please ensure these are returned next week.
There will be a prize for the class who hands all their forms in first, all
correctly completed. Good luck! Children sharing food Could we please ask
parents/carers to remind the children that they should not be sharing food at
any time. Although it is tempting to share with their friends, we do have
children in school who have allergies/intolerances to certain foods and sharing
foods with ingredients that they shouldn't be having could be harmful to them.
Thanks in advance for your help with this. Year 1/2 visit to Cleethorpes Last
Wednesday, the Year 1/2 children went on a trip to Cleethorpes. The weather was
incredibly kind and the sun shone down on the children all day. They had an
amazing time, as the pictures below show. Some of the children have shared their
thoughts on their day with us. Olivia - we had ice cream! It was a vanilla
flavour and was swirled up. The other Olivia buried me in the sand and we found
a stripy green shell. Oscar M - it was fun! We made sandcastles on the beach.
Ellie - I think I found volcanic rock! Isaac - me and Miss Fairweather found
some sea glass. I brought it home. Sports Day Yesterday morning was full of
excitement and fun, as the children took part in different races for Sports Day.
They had been practising for a while for this, so this was the culmination of
all their hard work. Their team spirit shone through and they were all
supportive of their team mates throughout the event. It was wonderful to see so
many parents/carers at the event, cheering the children along. Huge
congratulations to the green team, who triumphed overall. Summer Fair Our PTA
held their Summer Fair after school yesterday and wow! There had been a huge
amount of hard work behind the scenes and we hope everyone can agree that all
that hard work really paid off as the event was fantastic! There was something
for everyone - lots of stalls, yummy food and an amazing atmosphere. Our PTA and
helpers really are wonderful. We were blown away by how many parents/carers came
into school from lunchtime yesterday to help to set up the fair. It means the
world to us that we have such supportive families; those who help at the events
and those who come along to the events to support us. Our children benefit
greatly from these events, both by having a fantastic time at them but also by
the money that is raised by having these events in school, so a huge thank you
to everyone. As part of the Summer Fair, the PTA held a Bake Off competition.
All the entries were absolutely delicious! The staff spent a long time eating
the cakes/biscuits and deliberating about which ones were the winners - it was a
very difficult choice! In the end, it was decided that the winners were: 1st -
Ottavia and Valentina 2nd - Joseph 3rd - Ella and James Well done to all those
who entered. We certainly have some very creative and future Bake Off stars at
Mayflower! Here are a few photos of the Summer Fair - we will share some more
with you on next week's blog. Bawtry Arts Festival This week is Bawtry Arts
Festival week and we were delighted to be part of this event. On Wednesday, we
held some dance and choir performances in school. The children had been
rehearsing routines and songs for this event and they performed to nearly 100
people! If they were nervous, they certainly didn't let it show and treated
their families to a super show. Thank you to Paige from Cre8ive Dance who has
been leading the dance sessions and to Mrs Wood, our amazing choir leader. The
children had a brilliant time performing for their families and we have had some
lovely feedback from the families who attended. Lunch Menu for week commencing

deterred by setbacks and learns lessons from her mistakes. She always has a
positive attitude towards her learning and always tries her best. She does not
let things worry her; she takes everything in her stride. Bikes/Scooters As we
head into the Summer months, it has been lovely to see that more children are
arriving at school on scooters and bikes which are then stored in our bike shed
on the playground. This is just a general reminder, that due to many health and
safety concerns, that they are not allowed to ride these once entering the
school grounds. They must walk them to the bike shed. This is to ensure there
are no incidents or accidents with other children or parents on site. There has
been an incident this week where a child needed first aid due to a collision
with a bike. Please ensure this reminder is discussed with your child, and if
this rule is not followed, unfortunately they will be asked to no longer bring
it on to the school site. Thanks for your support and cooperation regarding
this. Please return any school books As we move ever closer towards the end of
the school year, could we please ask that parents/carers have a good look at
home and return any school reading books please (including Read Write Inc
books). If you do find any, please return them to your child's class teacher
before the end of term. Sponsored Read 12th to 16th June To celebrate and
encourage a lifelong love of reading at home and school, we are running a
sponsored read from Monday 12th June to Friday 16th June. The project is being
organised in conjunction with our local Usborne Partner, ‘Jessica's World
Of Books’, and all the money raised will go towards brand new books for
our school. In addition to the sponsorship money, Usborne will also donate up to
60% of the total raised in EXTRA FREE BOOKS to the school. Our target is to
raise £600 in sponsor money, with Usborne donating an additional
£360 of books for free. This will give us a total of £960 to spend
on new books and resources for our children. Please help us to enhance our
reading resources for pupils by encouraging your child to spend a small amount
of time each day either reading to themselves, to others, or being read to. They
can read books, comics, magazines, newspapers, menus, websites, recipes, poems,
leaflets, instructions – anything with words! If you are able to support
our sponsored read, a sponsorship form and reading log will be coming home with
your child on Monday. Please hand any money raised into the office by the 21st

WEEKLY BLOG THURSDAY 26TH MAY 2023 7 JUN 2023

Welcome to our new website! We hope you will really enjoy our new website. We
have worked with the website provider to make it as user-friendly as possible
for everyone. Some of the pages are still currently being updated; however, there
is still lots of information on there which has been transferred and updated
from our previous website. This weekly blog will provide all the information
which was on the previous weekly blog, including diary dates. If there is
anything that you would like to see on the website that isn’t currently
showing, please let us know by emailing admin@bawtrymayflower.doncaster.sch.uk
Training Day Friday 26th May As advised previously, don't forget it's a Training
Day tomorrow, so school is closed to pupils. Happy Half Term! I wanted to wish
all the children and families at BMPS a wonderful half term spring break, and it
certainly looks like the sun will be shining for us all. We have so many
exciting events and days planned and prepared for the final half term of the
year! Residentials, school trips to the beach and Austerfield, a Summer Fair,
Sports Day, competitions, Bawtry Arts Festival, music concerts, talent show, PTA
Colour Run, story sack parent workshops, leaver’s productions and
assemblies and SO much more! More information will follow after half term
regarding classes, staffing updates/changes and return of maternity leaves and
this will all be centred around a comprehensive transition timetable which will
take place throughout June/July. Within this, there will be opportunities for
families to ‘meet the teacher’ receive curriculum information for
2023-24 and to ensure the children feel happy and confident in their move to
their new classes next year. We look forward to welcoming you back after the
break, and all the staff at BMPS thank you for your continued support. Mrs
Powell Attendance Every week in our Celebration Assembly, we celebrate the class
who has achieved the highest attendance for that week. We can't quite believe
we're saying this, but guess which class had the highest attendance this week?!
Yes, you guessed it - Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker's class had the highest
attendance for the 5th week in a row!! Well done Year 5/6B! You can probably
work out that Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker's class also had the highest attendance
for this half term too! Please see below for the attendance figures for this
week. Nursery - 88.24% Reception - 80.68% Year 1/2A (Mrs Davies) - 90.48% Year
1/2B (Miss Cruickshanks) - 93.45% Year 1/2 C (Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor) -
90.76% Year 3/4A (Mrs Wood) - 95.16% Year 3/4B (Mrs Perry) - 93.55% Year 5/6A
(Miss Dunn) - 95.83% Year 5/6B (Mrs Pickersgill/Mrs Walker) - 97.22% Stars of
the week Each week in our Friday Celebration Assembly, we celebrate our stars of
the week. Each class teacher chooses 2 children from their class each week who
have really impressed them. Foundation Sam for trying really hard in Read Write
Inc and for joining in during small group time. The adults working with him have
been really proud of him this week. Aaron for some really thoughtful answers in
our Jigsaw lessons about how to be good friends and kind to each other. He was
also good at thinking of ways to calm down when he might be a bit cross. 1/2A
Mrs Davies Jesse-James - for showing upmost respect, following all the rules and
trying his very best at the athletics on Wednesday. Olivia F - for showing
respect when supporting the Year 1's and using all the 4 Learning Powers to help
her use new skills in science. 1/2B Miss Cruickshanks Kiera S - for her
resiliance, determination and sheer positivity at Athletics yesterday. You never
gave up! Well done you! Keira L - for your green fingers and planting skills in
the allotment. You are a natural carer for the environment. Well done Keira!
1/2C Mrs Birkinshaw/Mrs Taylor Logan - At athletics, he was amazing! He was such
a great representative of the school as he was so polite and well-mannered. He
tried his hardest in all of the activities he took part in. We were so proud!
George - What a superstar reader he was yesterday! He was so polite with his
paired reader and he tried really hard to sound all the words out. What a star!
3/4A Mrs Wood Tamara - she has been working really hard this week. She has been
an excellent partner in class and has shown how respectful she is with her
excellent manners and fast stop sign! Cameron - Cameron has been working hard
this week. She is an excellent partner, helping younger children with their
learning and is always kind and well-mannered. 3/4B Mrs Perry Elsie and Elodie -
For encompassing all our rules, being kind, working hard and being respectful.
They will try their best in all their learning. They are respectful to everyone
they meet and will help anyone who asks for support. Both girls do this without
complaint or fuss. The girls show a fantastic mature attitude in everything they
put their mind to. 5/6A Miss Dunn Our theme this week has been focused on the
rule of law. We have been identifying those children who always follow our 3
rules and, as such, are exemplary role models in class. This week's Stars of the
Week in Y5/6A have been chosen with this in mind and it was so difficult to
choose only 3! Aria, Layla and Lily - you are my unsung heroes! You have
exemplary attitudes and learning behaviours and embody our 3 school rules at all
times; I can always rely upon each and every one of you to make the right
choices and to do what you have been asked to do. You treat everyone with
kindness, compassion and respect and I appreciate you for all you do. 5/6B Mrs
Pickersgill/Mrs Walker Evie tries her best and always follows the class/school
rules. She always listens carefully and follows instructionsand is a fantastic
role model for her peers. Sasha always follows the class/school rules. She works
sensibly and cooperatively with members of the class, shares her ideas and
thoughtfully listens to what others say. She is a great example to those around
her! Message for Key Stage 1 children and families Dear KS1 children and
families, So this week, we have reached the end of the “Quizzy
Booklets” (End of Key Stage assessments) for Year 2 and I wanted to say a
huge thank you to you all for being such superstars over the last two weeks!
During this time, you have been so sensible working with different adults, in
different classrooms and have shown just how wonderful you are at supporting
each other! Year 1, you even helped me when I popped in to help you with your
learning, and I thoroughly enjoyed being back in the classroom because you were
all so hardworking, respectful and kind! All our core values shining out of you
all this week! I also have to say a huge thank you to all the adults who have
helped in any way the last few weeks. What a mammoth task organising and
completing this task with over 60 children – I can assure you the
timetables looked like a quantum physics equation at times! But we are
especially pleased to hear that after this year, there are no plans for any more
of these to take place across KS1. And to that news, we leave with even bigger
smiles for the half term break!
Sports Events This week some of our children
have taken part in inter-school sports events. We will share more information on
this on our first blog after half term. Spelling Bee As mentioned on last week's
blog, Harry, Elizabeth, Robert and Riley J from Year 6 took part in a Spelling
Bee at Hill House last Friday. All the children in Year 6 were given the
opportunity to join Round 1 of the competition, which was held in school. Harry,
Elizabeth, Robert and Riley J got the top scores for our school, which enabled
them to go through to the next round of the competition along with children from
several other primary schools. At Hill House, the children had to firstly do a
written part of the competition, where they spelled 3 words. All papers were
marked and then those who received the top scores from the written round went
through to a verbal round. Elizabeth and Harry took part in this round and did
amazingly well - Elizabeth came fifth in the whole competition. All four
children were amazing and we and their families are so proud of them. It must
have been a very daunting experience to get up on the stage in front of so many
people, but if they were nervous they didn't let it show. Well done! Caythorpe
Information for Year 6 parents/carers Find out what what your child needs to
take with them to Caythorpe, what they will do when they get there, what they
will be eating and what to do if your child has any allergies or medical
conditions we need to take into consideration. It's all here in the Parent
Guide. Click on the link below to find out everything you need to know about

Fair Planning Meeting Tuesday 13th June 3pm Our PTA has organised a Summer Fair
planning meeting on Tuesday 13th June from 3pm to 3.45pm. The meeting will be
held in school and children are very welcome to come along with their parents if
this makes it easier for you to attend. Please see the message below from Kirsty
Ellis, our PTA Chair. We are looking for volunteers for our Summer Fair being
held on Thursday 22nd June from 3pm-5pm. We would be very grateful if people
could help set up the event, run a stall for 30 minutes, and/or clean up
afterwards. The more volunteers we have, the less everyone has to do, and the
more time people can spend with their own children!! If you can spare some time,
no matter how little, please come along to our planning meeting and offer your
support. If you can't make the meeting but would like to be put down to help,
please contact PTA via their Facebook page, or tell the school office. Thanks in
