But not for long (video published April 2022). The South Island has topped a list of the world’s best places to visit in 2022, beating out the likes of Paris, Rome and Tokyo. The ranking, aimed at American readers, was compiled by Washington, D.C-based publisher U.S. News & World Report, which analysed more than 1100 destinations, taking into consideration user votes as well as input from experts and their own editors. 123rf The South Island and its spectacular fiords have been singled out as the world’s best place to visit. “New Zealand's South Island brims with majestic landscapes at every turn, from dramatic mountains to spectacular fiords,” the blurb read. “Here, you can admire the mountains of Fiordland National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, from hiking trails or a boat on Milford Sound.
