Hi all I'm a new member from Australia. I just recently purchased a pro varmint
in 223 rem 1:8 twist, in western australia gun licensing takes upto 6 - 8 weeks
to process so while I wait I'm keen to hear about the rifle or if there are any
reviews as I've no experience with the steyr I went in the gun shop to buy a
tikka or savage but the steyr caught my eye paid $2195 at a discount from $3400
also I used to travel to the USA and shear sheep in Wyoming for five years and
worked out of Casper and loved it !

Man, a bullet could travel in Western Australia for days and not find someone to
hit. On the other hand, you have some cool varmints to shoot. Do you still have

Where I'll do most of my shooting is rabbit fox and feral cats in remote areas
pigs camel goats and wild dogs also the twist rate on that gun is 1:9

I have a Pro Hunter in 308 with a 20" barrel, so I looked at the Steyr Varmint
in 223. Not many around but there were a few on Gun Broker. A bit out of my
price range so I went with a Tikka Scout in 223 with a 20" barrel. It has a 1:8
twist so I loaded up on Hornady 75 gr TAP. It's no Steyr, but still a good
accurate rifle. Enjoy your shooting over there.

Hi danob73,Im a new member here and i am still finding my way around this
site.Not very computer literate but i get by.
Yes i do have a Steyr Pro Varmint in .223 which i have had for about 6 months
now,they acctually have a 1in9 twist barrel mate.I got it for $1995 at the
special price and happy with that.I sighted in at 100m at a cost of 4 shots
which was very pleasing and impressing.Great to shoot and slightly better groops
than my Anschutz .22hornet. It put 4 shots inside a 10 cent piece.Very nice Set
Trigger also.

Still shooting my Tikka and it is a great rifle. I just love shooting and
reloading 223 and wish I could get a chance to take it out to meet some coyotes.

Hello, I am from Sydney and purchased a Pro Varmint in .223 last year. To date I
have not hunted with it, firing it at the range only.
I must say it is the most accurate factory rifle I have ever owned. Ten shot
100yd groups under .75" and 10 shots at 300m from a Versapod easily scoring 100
on the 100mm ISSF bullseys. The F class shooters alongside with their expensive
rests are only just bettering it!
My load is 24gr ADI BM2, Norma cases and 69gr Matchking for an OAL of 2.315"

hi, ive been shooting one in223 for 3 years now. I use it on the range out to
600m. Shooting possibles at 300m but its a challenge with the wind at 600m so i
have just got myself an SSG. I agree that the pro varmint is super accurate and
its hard to find a load that it wont shoot MOA! Im using winchester brass with
cci std primers. Sierra 69g matchking with 25.5grains of AR 2206h is my load:

Could not shake the Steyr itch so I sold my Tikka and found a 24" 223 Pro Hunter
with a heavy barrel and set trigger. It's about 4 years old but never fired.
Must of been a short run of the model because I can't find any info on it. I
plan to shoot it tomorrow and I'll let you guys know how it goes.

mate haven't been on for a while but that load you've got what's the velocity I
just shoot crappy 55gr roo loads 27gr, win 748 and win primers they group well
the flat base 55's shoot ab little better trying 68gr hpbt hornadys but not
really that good
