The outlet in Birmingham voted 27-1 to to form the union on Thursday, May 26. The workers will be represented by Workers United if the vote is upheld. Company executives did not immediately respond to an email from Fox Business asking for a response on whether Starbucks will appeal the vote. This is the latest in a string of labor victories at Starbucks locations throughout the country, despite efforts from the company to put staff off. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin, who openly stated his support for the workers, backed them up. Employees who joined the union complained about management’s lack of respect. Alex Buford, a three-year Starbucks employee who transferred to the location six months ago, also mentioned racial discrimination as an issue. Buford said: “There’s a lot of racial issues that we’ve been dealing with, managers purposely cutting our hours, attacking us for no reason. “A lot of us have complained, and the managers — they’re just not hearing us out. Or they’re not really listening to us. Or they say they’re listening, but they’re not really listening.” Looking for a new job?
