At the age of 22 Rob Heffernan travelled to Sydney to compete in his first
Olympic Games. 12 years on and many wet, winter morning’s spent pounding the
roads around Fota, at London 2012, after originally finishing 4th, Rob was later
awarded the Olympic Bronze after a reallocation, cementing his place in
Ireland’s sporting history

From his first Olympics in 2000 to becoming a five-time Olympian, Rob’s
commitment to Olympic sport spans over 20 years and last year Rob and Marian won
the @flogasireland community Ambassador of the Year award for the work they do
in Cork’s athletic community.

Team Ireland is celebrating 100 years of participation at the Olympic Games this

A sticky note, written by her, for herself. “Not to fear losing but to see the
opportunity to fight to win”

Annalise Murphy ultimately emerged from the heartbreak of being agonisingly
close at London 2012 as a stronger person and better sailor, as evidenced by her
qualification for Rio 2016 and winning an Olympic Silver medal in the Laser
Radial dinghy class

As Team Ireland celebrates 100 years of participation at the Olympic Games, we
take a look back at some magical moments

“Yep, I’ll say it, I’ve had a real glow up. Whether or not you think you’ll make
it, go for it anyway. From 24-39 it’s been worth every step”

Abi Lyle her debut in dressage at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Ireland’s sole
representative in this competition.

Even if success isn’t guaranteed, the journey itself is valuable and rewarding.

Looking back to a special moment in Team Ireland’s history. John Treacy’s
remarkable journey to his iconic silver medal in the marathon at the 1984 Los
Angeles Olympic Games, running in the searing Californian heat.

Commentated on by the late Jimmy Magee, Treacy’s storied career marked by
national titles and international accolades, reached its pinnacle at the 1984
Olympics with his silver medal.
