I had goosebumps when I played it. I actually unlocked everything on the first day because I could not stop playing. It is a fun and different game that I highly highly recommend. Be careful though, hard mode is hard. Vivahawaii 3 days ago 4.5star Starship Troopers Continuum had some big shoes to fill with this well known IP jumping in VR for the first time. I had a chance to give it a try with two of my friends: Spencer and SpaceRoach and we had a blast! Definitely a game that I encourage playing in multiplayer for a better experience. After a quick 10 minutes tutorial that explains the fundamental, you are thrown in a hub where you can purchase and equip new weapons, set new abilities to your soldier, and this is where you'll be setting a session to play the campaign with your friend. Your goal is basically to go from point A to point B on the map, and exterminate every alien that's in your way, including a pretty crazy boss at the end of the map. You'd think that the game would become pretty casual while playing with others, but this game is no joke guys, we miserably failed the second map and trust me, I tried really hard to make it to the end. So yeah, the game has some replayability since you level up and get better skills as you progress. It's well worth the purchase. NinjaGuyX 4 days ago 4.5star This chaotic rhythm game brings hilarious fun with unique "tooting" mechanics and quirky upgrades like cat trombones. It’s perfect for casual laughs, with plenty of challenges and mixed-reality integration to show off your setup. While the controls can be tricky at first, the humor and replayability make it a standout on Quest! KaleahVR 9 days ago 4.5star About 5 months ago, UploadVR has given us a showcase showing an assortment of exciting games on VR. Ember Souls was one of the game on there and it definitely caught my attention since the trailer was showing a very promising full fledge action adventure that seemed inspired by the Prince of Persia series. Fast forward to today, I've played and completed the game to it's fullest and it's time for me to share my complete opinion on the game. Will this one be talked about in the many coming months? Or will it be lost in the sands of time. Let's find out! Ember Souls came out on November 21st, 2024 for $24.99 and is available for the Meta Quest 2, 3 and 3S. The game was developed by VirtualAge who are known for Guardians Frontline. A game inspired by Halo and also contains some cool strategy mechanics in there. If you're on the Meta Quest+ Subscription, make sure to have a look since it's currently part of the service. Gameplay So this is a full on action adventure story focused game. Your main goal is to travel in these levels where you'll have an assortment of things to do. Combat First, I want to talk about the combat. I've heard many having a mixed opinion on it. But I personally enjoyed it. You get a lot of mechanics that you can use to your advantage. You have your typical sword that you can swing to deal damage to the enemy, but let say that there's an archer at a distance, I love picking up my small dagger and throwing it at them so they don't disrupt me from my close combat. And when you are overwhelmed by enemies, you have special abilities that you can do like a big push, or flames coming out of your hands for example, but you acquire many more abilities that you can take advantage of. Some enemies have armor, so you have to make sure to hit them at spots that they can't block, and there's a variety of enemies like skeletons, mages, and even bats. I had a fun time in the combat most of the time. Parkour Another part of the game is the parkour, and this is where the Prince of Persia mechanics come into place. So you'll get parts in the game were you'll need to do some wall riding to reach an obstacle, or when you're very high and need to reach the ground floor, you'll get parts where you have to grab a banner to slide down without getting fall damage. You will also encounter rooms with some deadly traps that you have to avoid with some quick time reaction. The main protagonist also have possession of a bow and arrows, which can be useful sometimes to activate grabbable sections, and things like that. Puzzles The last main aspect of the gameplay are puzzles! They are pretty light, but that's understandable since you want to have a large variety of players finishing the game. You'll get things like reflecting a beam of light in the proper position. But my favorite puzzle is when you have to call your falcon friend and look through his eyes to find the code to open a door. It just brings a little bit of variety that I appreciate. There are some optional and mandatory puzzle sections. Story The main protagonist is called Kasim, and you go on a trip to find out what has happened to your immortal friends at the palace. To your surprise, you're greeted by a falcon named Alshain, and you learn that all of your friends has either been killed, or possessed by some dark magic that's happening. Throughout your adventure, you also encounter a lady named Arya who you rescue, and then learn about the 4 magic stones that you need to find to break the spell from this giant palace. I loved the story overall, it doesn't overstay its welcome and pretty easy to follow. There are some nice interaction between the falcon and the hero. Sometimes they even have some small funny moments. Although, one nitpick that I have is that they both have kind of a similar voice. So sometimes it would take me a moment before I could differentiate both voices. I've learned that the developers are actually re-working the voices and we should see a new patch for it sometime soon, so this could definitely not be an issue in a bit. Something that was also recently added is positioning audio, so you'll know exactly who's talking by knowing where they're talking from. Modes So the main campaign took me around 6 hours to complete on the hardest difficulty, and it was a solid 6 hours. It didn't drag too much, and I find that it wasn't too short either. There are some replayability aspect since there are prisoners and collectables that you have to find in all 15 levels of the campaign. Raid There is a side mode that you can play called Raid. You basically have access to a bunch of dungeons that you can play where you have to find the exit as fast as possible. You get a nice map on your wrist that will help you to find the location that you need to go. It's great if you've finished the game, but just want more of it. What's nice is that all of the experience and money that you get from the raid, transfers over to your main campaign. So you can grind and get some nice perk if you want to! But it's not necessary. There is also a weekly showcased raid that you can do, which is great because this is where you'll find a bunch of people trying to be on the top. Sandbox Another mode currently available is sandbox. You can select the type of obstacles that you want to have in your arena, the type of enemies that you want to fight, the weapons, and also other little settings. It is fun if you want to practice the combat or just play around with things. When we look at the menu, looks like we'll also be seeing a mixed reality mode in the future, but it is not currently available. Graphics When I started the game, a concern to me that came right away is that this could be an asset flip, or just a quick cash grab. But when playing, you can see that there has been enough work in it to be it's own unique visuals. It's not amazing, but also, it doesn't feel cheap. It's right in the middle. There are some locations that are very well crafted and thought of, to a point where I stopped and just looked at the scenery to appreciate what I was seeing. It's well balanced. Music The music did stand out to me, and I was not expecting that! I find that the composition just really hits well with the style of the game and just plain well done. I especially love around the end of the game where the music gets intense, I just wish that the intensity of the song would last longer because I was really vibing during that part haha. Bugs So, you know, the game is not perfect. I've encountered a lot of issues during my playthrough and I've reported all of them to the developers. 10 in total and this is why you're seeing numbers on this since this is the detailed video that I've sent them. Thankfully, the devs are super committed at fixing and tweaking the game and we've just received a new patch that fixed many of the issues that I had. Like this bug where I got transported to another dimension for example, you won't see that one. But there are bugs still happening like an infinite loading time, or weird graphical and fps glitch that happened to me from time to time. This is still being investigated. Another one is there's a few times where I was able to get out of bound, and there is this one time where an enemy got through a wall, and it took a long time for it to respawn back so I could continue the level, but at least it did end up getting unstuck. The game is fun, I really enjoyed my time with it and it's very well constructed. But because of the issues that it's having right now, it did affect the fun factor a little. With the new patch, I think that it's worth a purchase because it is one awesome journey that you're going through, but maybe it's worth waiting a little bit also because they are still reworking on things like the voice acting and they are also improving things in the combat. So what i can say is that your playthrough will be more enjoyable than mine, and that's telling something because I did enjoy it! NinjaGuyX 15 days ago 4.5star Amazing way to use mixed reality. This game allows you to start your very own habitats and ecosystems right in the comfort of your own play space. Place critters in their respected biomes as you must feed, breed, and even keep them alive from predators. I think this game is actually educational as it teaches you about of pet care and where animals come from. TruGamer4Realz 15 days ago 4.5star The trailer for this game did not do it justice. The game is very arcade like but if your a fan of starship troopers this is a must have title. The game can be played in a full story coop which is really fun with friends. The bugs are massive and it really makes you feel like your doing your part! Must download if you want to experience the nostalgia that is starship troopers. TruGamer4Realz 15 days ago 4.5star Great way to use story telling and virtual reality. It tells a story of two people trying to share a planet with undertones of hidden agendas. Really a masterpiece. TruGamer4Realz 15 days ago 4.5star Ember Souls is a game that is very similar to Prince Of Persia. The game does offer some really cool gore mechanics but is still a bit buggy at the moment. There are puzzles to solve and of course the parkour aspect of being able to climb and jump on multiple things. The combat is kind of lacking as all you really have to do is swing your arms around. The game has a great concept to it but really needs polish. TruGamer4Realz 15 days ago 4.5star This is by far the best way to experience a pinball machine in virtual reality. This game takes you inside the machine and has you enjoying a fast paced game of pinball up close and personal. I love the design of the game and how easy it is to use your controllers and bumpers. It really adds to the immersion and the fun with the several types of machines too. The game also has leaderboard to compete for high scores! TruGamer4Realz 15 days ago 4.5star This game has had a great update which makes it run alot smoother and is actually impressive for what it is. It uses mixed reality to another level that even had me crawling around in my own play space. You get to build your own town that gets to have its own locations around your room. Characters come and perform various jobs as they perform vital tasks to keep your town alive. i was really impressed how each person is doing their own thing and you can sit back and watch them all live. Great story, fun concept! TruGamer4Realz 15 days ago 4.5star Hop into a new dystopian future as you take on this turn based strategy mixed reality game. I love the scenery of the dioramas as well as the story that has you hooked. The combat is very simple but you do have to strategize which as another level to it. Really cool game that was released ages ago but now has mixed reality. TruGamer4Realz 15 days ago 4.5star Great use of mixed reality. If your a fan of puzzlers with this a new way to experience some mind minding teasers. The game has great graphics, challenging puzzles, and amazing concepts. TruGamer4Realz 15 days ago 4.5star This is by far the best standalone racing game for VR. The game runs much smoother than most race sims and it shows. The game has many tracks with day and night cycles, customization of your buggy, and even online racing and leaderboard. There is even a game mode that allows you to destroy each other with power ups like Mario Kart. Overall the game is very enjoyable and takes some time to get used to the car setup as it feels like your on dirt 24/7 but thats how a buggy rides! TruGamer4Realz 15 days ago 4.5star Dumb Ways Free For All is a great edition to the already established mobile version of the game. This brings all the fun and party games right into virtual reality! There are several mini games to play with several locations as well. I would suggest this game if your a fan of mario party and like to play with friends. Its great fun for the whole family. TruGamer4Realz 15 days ago 4.5star Badminton Time is such a fun game, perfect for solo play or getting the family involved! The environments are colorful and easy on the eyes, and the gameplay feels super smooth and immersive. I love that you can fully customize your avatar, and the mini-games are such a fun way to sharpen your skills. This is definitely a VR game I’ll keep coming back to! KaleahVR 20 days ago 4.5star Just tried XFit, and it’s so fun! It’s a rhythm fitness game with workouts inspired by dancers like Kida the Great. The AI trainers are awesome, the environments look great, and it’s a killer workout. Definitely worth checking out! KaleahVR 21 days ago 4.5star The Link is a game from a very small indie developer, but the idea is so unique! You get thrown into mazes with invisible walls. Your job is to find the end of the room, and you can only know the way by spray painting the walls The game is a little creepy, you'll sometimes encounter red substances and you have to make sure to avoid those since they're dangerous. You will also hear very creepy voices in the distances and some weird stuff can happen. Make sure to bring a few pairs of trousers. The single indie developer has also added a little bit of a backstory to it. You start in some kind of laboratory, and the people over there are kind of studying the red anomaly, and looks like they've found a way to control them. Very unsettling. This also acts as a hub and you are presented with a board that contains all of the levels that you can do. I have a good sense of direction, but you can definitely get lost easily in there, I find that the developer has done a good job with the level design since he's really good at finding ways to trick you. Pick the game up! It's super cheap. NinjaGuyX 22 days ago 4.5star I was pretty excited to get my hands on this game since we started seeing some pretty cool footage from the content creators who were able to try the game during the Home of XR and were pretty enthusiastic about it. I was able to get my hands on it pre-release and after playing around four and a half hours, I came out of it with a little bit of disappointment. I'm sure that you're curious into why I feel like this since this is such an innovative Mixed Reality idea, so lets get right into it! Wall Town Wonders came out on November 21st 2024 for $19.99 and is available for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S. The developers of the game are Cyborn, who are well known for their award winning game Hubris! It's not a game that I had a chance to try yet, but I know that this sci-fi action adventure game had a lot of praise. Alright onto Wall Town Wonders now. Gameplay So the idea of the game is super cool and unique. Your main goal is to build a town on your actual wall. Every time that I was turning on the headset and saw all of these buildings on the wall, it was pretty awesome. To upgrade or build more buildings, you have to basically gather resources. The buildings will mostly require wood, bricks and metal to be able to be made. The main way to gather these materials is by going into mine expeditions. When you go in these, your town will disappear, and then you'll get into a cave that you have to explore with your miner. You can only do these expeditions once a day in real time, but as you keep playing, you get more way to gain these resources. You'll obtain buildings that will automatically generate those resources in real time. So you can gather them as they appear, or you can take a break from your headset, and then when you come back, you'll have a good chunk of resources to gather. There's also other minigames that you can play that will help you gain resources faster. Another really important resource is the food! You'll need it mostly to go in expeditions with your lizard to find more mines if you don't feel like waiting for a day. You can gather food by growing your farm, or by doing some fishing. Last resource that you have are stars. You gather them just by playing the game or trying some mini games, it's kind of like experience point. You can use them to buy different new cosmetics for your townpeople or your buildings. But later in the game, some building upgrade may require them. Game Flow That's pretty much the whole concept of the game! You gather resources to build more buildings to gain more townspeople and so on and so forth. Going in, this is what I was expecting for sure. The thing though, is that I was looking for something relaxing, something to lose my mind in a peaceful and mindless setup, but as I kept playing, it felt more like a chore simulator than a relaxing crafting world for me personally. The game starts strong, since you're greeted with some nice silly cutscenes and you get introduced to a lot of new characters. While you're learning how to play, and you get to build a lot of new things and discover some nice things to do. But I'd say at around one and a half hour, you get to a point where you're in a loop to gather more resources to make more buildings, and that loop just don't seems to end. The loop is as followed: the core thing that you need are resources to craft buildings. The first thing that you need is food, and your farm doesn't grow fast enough, so you need to go fish a few times. Then you need to go on an expedition with your lizard using the food to find a mine. Then you mine your resources. Then you have to do it all over again. As you keep going, there's a little bit more variety of things that you can do, but it doesn't add to the fun factor after doing it a few times. You just end up with the same goal throughout the game. After upgrading my townhall to tier 5, and noticing that it didn't add up to any new variety, I've simply decided that I was done and couldn't bare the idea that I just needed to grind again with no new added mechanic. Also, every time that you have to start something, the townperson will have the same dialogue and I wish that I could just skip it, it doesn't add anything new. There's 2 things that I can think that could've helped in making this game better: The first quick and easy one would be to introduce a trading store where you can simply trade one of your resource to something else. There were many times where my bricks where maxed out, but I had no wood at all. It was annoying going to the mine grinding wood while I was wasting the brick resources. The second thing is that I feel like there's something missing to break the ice. Like, I wish that there would be some events in the game that would stop you from doing your work for resources. There are some minigames in there like a flying a plane going through hoops to get experience, but there's not enough for me to keep doing it since it's extremely optional. It'd be nice to have things such as needing to complete these minigames to unlock buildings that you have to build, or things like that. Graphics Something that I've heard during some Home of XR footage is people telling how great the characters looked up close. That instantly reminded me of Demeo where the game looks gorgeous when you zoom in the board. I did not get this feeling with the game sadly. The thing is that it's using dynamic resolution rendering, and for some reason, when I record my gameplay, the game thinks that I'm using a lot of resources and it needs to lower down the resolution to the max. So when I go close to the characters, it just looks very blurry from the headset. This is not an issue when you're not recording, but it personally affected my enjoyment. No other games I've played that lower down the resolution THAT much when recording. The game also felt pretty janky. Many times there would be a frame skipping or a lag that would be noticeable when I move around. Since this is Mixed Reality, it really breaks the immersion when it happens, and it's a little hard on the eyes. Bugs/Issues So I did encounter some annoying bugs in the game. Some even that prevented me from completing a minigame, but it didn't stop me from progressing at least. Something to note is that the developers are aware of the bugs, and there should be a patch fixing most of this in the next few days, so keep a lookout. The first bug I've encountered is a minigame with a lizard where I have to search for berry seeds to grow in my farm. The lizard tells me where the seed is to dig, but he never actually dig it out. So I was never able to grow this kind of food. Second bug is when I do the airplane minigame, the rings that I have to go in goes behind my furniture for some reason even though it's in front. The air lines following the plane and the indicator for the plane to follow also goes behind it. Third bug is there is some money that I can't gather in my town. You need to just touch the resource to obtain it, but there are just some that doesn't pick up. Last bug is during an air balloon minigame, there's a specific dropzone that I just can't drop any crates on. It just goes straight through it. So guys this is mostly what I had to say about the game. Very promising at first, but my journey through it ended up in frustration at the end. There's a patch coming soon that could fix all of this, but I'm here to give you guys the experience that I have right now, and personally, I probably won't be touching it again due to my impression of it. And it's not as if I didn't try, I did play 4 and a half hours of it, but it's just not for me. I do hope that the game improves and does well in the long run because it is definitely a cool concept. NinjaGuyX 23 days ago 4.5star One of the most visually interesting puzzle games I've played in VR and the MR mode is very clean! Definitely worth checking out. ObscureNerdVR 24 days ago 4.5star This is a great game for any age. This game is based on the card game of the same name. The game has a few different modes and they are all easy to pick up and once you do you are flying. You can play with friends or random people online you can even add bots. It's a turn based game where the aim is to steal items from your opponents and make sure they pick the bomb not you. Really fun and each round can go very differently.
