Minecraft ditches Super Duper graphics plan

Minecraft will keep its block-based look for the near future as plans to upgrade
its graphics are cancelled.




In a statement Minecraft developer Mojang said it had stopped development on
what was referred to as the Super Duper graphics pack for the game.




The pack would have given the game realistic textures lighting effects, as well
as better graphics.




The pack proved to be too complicated, so it was taken away.




'Disappointing'




The idea to make Minecraft look more realistic was revealed in 2017 at the E3
games show. The plan was ambitious: create a downloadable addon that would
completely change the basic, blocky design of the game that is so popular.




In 2017, Mojang said its work also would produce an add-on for the Xbox version
of Minecraft that allows the game to run in 4K resolution on the console.

Originally the Super Duper add-on was due to be released in the fall of 2017 but
the release date was pushed forward to 2018 before it was pulled completely in
2019.




It apologized for the technical requirements of the update.




It stated: "We are sorry for your disappointment. There was a lot of enthusiasm
for Super Duper both inside and outside the studio, however we aren't satisfied
with the performance of the pack across all devices."




Mojang said it wasn't yet done with improving the look of Minecraft on different
gaming devices and said it would share more details on this project soon.
