PETER JAFFÉ Princeton University USA Biography × BIOGRAPHY Prof. Peter Jaffé obtained his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Simón Bolívar, Caracas, Venezuela in 1977 and his MS degree in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN in1980. He obtained his PhD in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN in 1981. Prof. Peter Jaffé is currently appointed as Associated Faculty at High Meadows Environmental Institute, Associated Faculty at Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment (ACEE) and Associated Faculty at Princeton Institute for the Science and Technology of Materials (PRISM). Prof. Jaffé’s research interests relate to the physical, chemical, and biological processes that govern the transport and transformation of pollutants in the environment and their application toward the remediation of contaminated systems. Areas of current emphasis include laboratory and field experiments as well as mathematical simulations of biogeochemical processes in porous media, such as: (1) understanding the mechanism as well as environmental distribution of the Feammox process (ammonium oxidation under iron reducing conditions); (2) Applications of the Feammox process for ammonium removal in engineered systems and for the cometabolical degradation of recalcitrant organics such as PFAS; (2) biogeochemically mediated dynamics of trace metals, metalloids, and radioisotopes in sediments, wetland soils, and groundwater; (4) nitrogen processing in urban settings coupled to urban hydrology; and (5) design of novel biological waste treatment processes. JIAN-JIANG ZHONG Shanghai Jiao Tong University China Biography × BIOGRAPHY Jian-Jiang Zhong obtained his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from East China Institute of Chemical Technology (Now: ECUST, Shanghai, China) in July 1986, and Ph.D. degree in Fermentation Technology/Biotechnology from Osaka University (Osaka, Japan) in March 1993. Dr. Zhong was promoted to full professorship at ECUST in November 1996. He was the director of the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering (ECUST) during 1998-2006. In September 2006, he established the Molecular Biochemical Engineering lab at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Now he is SJTU Distinguished Professor. Professor Zhong's major research interest includes molecular biochemical engineering, advanced fermentation technology, and synthetic biology, covering the application areas of biopharmaceuticals, biorefinery and bioenergy, agriculture, environmental protection and bioremediation, food and fermentation industries.Professor Zhong has published 245 papers in peer-reviewed international journals (cited by Science Citation Index) and 7 international books (by Springer), with Google Scholar citation of 10500 and h-index of 54. He was an invited and plenary lecturer in >70 international conferences. He holds 20 patents. Dr. Zhong has received numerous awards from home and abroad, such as the Cheung Kong Scholar Professorship (1999), National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars by NSFC (2002), Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize by the Society for Biotechnology, Japan (2002), Research Exchange Award from Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (2009), and 1st-Class Award for the Advancement of Science and Technology by Ministry of Education of China for twice (2004, 2014). He is former Rector of the University and is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences. His research interests are in the field of the chemistry and biological activity of natural products and medicinal agents. His main contributions are in the field of the constituents of cannabis and the endogenous cannabinoids found in the brain and the periphery. DAVE WHITE Oregon State University USA Biography × BIOGRAPHY Dave Is a Chemical Engineer with Masters studies in Statistics, currently working on Climate Change. He has 30 years’ experience since graduation in 1984. Promoting responsibility to environment and health of all species. Dave White graduated in Chemical Engineering in 1984. During the time at Oregon State University Dave worked on a cross flow counter current scrubber for coal fired power plants. Additionally took masters level classes on statistics. Then he moved to Hillsboro with his wife and worked in Semiconductors. In 2007 Dave along with Dr. Tom Wallow produced a paper on ARF double patterning for semiconductors. This multi-pattering scheme is widely used in today’s semiconductor manufacturing plants. In 2011 Dave started a consulting business for Semiconductors. In 2017 Dave Started Climate Change Truth Research Inc. Dave is seeking the truth about climate change. His research interests are evaporation from the ocean, rain forest destruction effects and diffusion of CO2 through the atmosphere. DR. URMILA M DIWEKAR President of Stochastic Research Technologies LLC USA Biography × BIOGRAPHY Dr. Urmila Diwekar is the President of Stochastic Research Technologies LLC and also the president of the Vishwamitra Research, a non-profit research institute that she founded to pursue multidisciplinary research in the areas of Optimization under Uncertainty and Computer-aided Design applied to Energy, Environment, and Sustainability. From 2002-2004, she was a Professor in the Departments of Chemical Engineering, Bio-Engineering, and Industrial Engineering, and in the Institute for Environmental Science and Policy, at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She has a special formal arrangement with UIC where remains as the main advisor for her Ph.D. and M.S. students and teaches a course on optimization. Being trained as a Bioelectrochemist, I am a young, dedicated and highly motivated scientist, whose research main focus in the field of chemo-/bio- sensors, natural products, composting, and fungal biodiversity. During tenure in UMS, I have taught 10 master and undergraduate courses, supervised 21 postgraduate students at the PhD and MSc level of which 14 have graduated while the rest are still on-going as well as 18 undergraduates and more than 9 internship students. HASSANE OUDADESSE Head of the research unit on Biomaterials, University of Rennes France Biography × BIOGRAPHY Professor Hassane Oudadesse is a Head of the research unit on Biomaterials since 2001, Vice President of University of Rennes 1, human resources 2008 - 2012, Director of Master 2 Solid State Chemistry and Materials since 2006. He was the President of the Chemical Department from 2002 to 2004. Director of master 2 Solid State Chemistry and Materials (CSM) since 2006. Hassane Oudadesse graduated from the University Blaise Pascal of Clermont-Ferrand, France. He obtained his PhD on nuclear physics in 1989. His works concern the use of nuclear methods for development in biomedical field. He worked as associate Professor and obtained his HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) in 1998. RAMESH AGARWAL Washington University in St. Louis USA Biography × BIOGRAPHY Prior to joining the faculty at Washington University in 2001, Professor Agarwal was the Chair of the Aerospace Engineering Department at Wichita State University from 1994 to 1996 and the Executive Director of National Institute for Aviation Research from 1996 to 2001. From 1994 to 2001, he was also the Bloomfield Distinguished Professor at Wichita State University. From 1978 to 1994, Professor Agarwal worked in various scientific and managerial positions at McDonnell Douglas Research Laboratories in St. Louis. He became the Program Director and McDonnell Douglas Fellow in 1990. From 1976 to 1978, Professor Agarwal worked as a NRC Research Associate at NASA Ames Research Center and as a Principal Research Engineer at Rao and Associates in Palo Alto, California from 1975 to 1976. Over a period of 45 years, Professor Agarwal has worked in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Computational Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and Electromagnetics, Computational Aeroacoustics, Multidisciplinary Design and Optimization, Rarefied Gas Dynamics and Hypersonic Flows, Bio-Fluid Dynamics, and Flow and Flight Control. Aifantis is currently an Emeritus Professor of Mechanics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki/Greece and Michigan Technological University/USA, as well as Mercator fellow at Friedrich-Alexander University/Germany and a Distinguished Professor at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture/China. Formerly, he has also been a Distinguished Faculty Advisor at King Abdulaziz University/Saudi Arabia, Distinguished Visiting Expert at ITMO University/Russia and Southwest Jiaotong University/China, as well as MegaGrant Director at Togliatti State University /Russia. SHABIR HASSAN Harvard Medical School USA Biography × BIOGRAPHY Dr. Shabir Hassan is an Early Career Investigator (Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School) in Shin Lab. He completed his bachelor’s in Chemistry, Biology and English from University of Kashmir and his master’s in Biotechnology from University of Pune. After a year of research in molecular biology through LSZGS of UZH/ETH Zurich, he moved to a spectroscopy lab for his Dr. Sc. He used ultrafast laser spectroscopy to study protein folding, aggregation, and photothermal effects in proteins in real time. In 2016, he won the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) fellowship to carry out his research at Harvard Medical School in drug and metabolite delivery applications of novel nanoparticles targeting diseases and other medical conditions. In 2018, he won an Advanced Grant from SNSF to do his collaborative research at Harvard/MIT and University of Twente, Netherlands. His research interests include biomaterials, bioengineering, and biophotonics/imaging. He was awarded BWH and Harvard Medical School’s Award of Excellence for Mentorship in 2019. DR. EHSAN RAOUFI Department Of Medical Biotechnology Iran Biography × BIOGRAPHY Dr. Ehsan Raoufi is a Ph.D. in the field of Medical Biotechnology at the Iran University of Medical Sciences. He has more than nine years of experience in medical biotechnology. He focused on producing and developing microscales to manufacture scale-up of recombinant protein in eukaryotic and prokaryotic expression systems, and also worked on synthetic peptides (epitopes) In order to evaluate in human samples. He proposes recombinant protein as a candidate for the development of antigen-antibody-related test kits and vaccines according to experimental and in-silico analyses. He has lectured several courses and workshops on Bioinformatics and epitope prediction at Iran and Arak University of Medical Sciences.
