NBA fans think LeBron James will definitely retire as the league has announced an expected rule change. The Los Angeles Lakers star teased retirement following his team’s playoff exit earlier this year and, while no one believed him at the time, social media reckons he could call curtains on his career now that the NBA is set to experiment with a new flopping penalty. The NBA made an announcement this Tuesday, disclosing plans to test a proposed in-game penalty for the aforementioned infraction during Summer League this year. According to the new rule, a flop will be determined by referees and will be punished by awarding the opposing team one free throw, as well as possession of the ball. The player deemed to be in violation will be hit with an unsportsmanlike tech, though it won’t count towards personal fouls or lead to an ejection. Refs won’t need to stop play to call a flop either. Given that LeBron has been accused of flopping for most of his career, fans think this is the last straw for the 38-year-old. Looks like King James’ future could hinge on the outcome of the league’s experiment. The anti-flopping rule has been around since 2012 but there was no immediate penalty attached. As it stands, players are given a warning and are subsequently fined for an accumulation of offenses. This new consideration could have a significant impact on the game should it come through. Texas girl politely holds restaurant door for elderly lady, only to hear woman's remark and speak upSecret Life of Mom MORE FOR YOU Jordan Poole and the Golden State Warriors have made the headlines for two consecutive seasons after the organization shipped him to the Washington Wizards a couple of weeks ago. Last year, it was Poole's altercation with Draymond Green that became media fodder. Many believe that Green went over the top with his actions, but a recent report has stated that Poole had already been on the nerves of his teammates, including Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, even before his incident with Green. "I put that on Jordan Poole," Fox Sports' Ric Bucher said of Green's punch. "Jordan was on a lot of players' nerves way before that, including Klay's and Steph's. And Draymond was finally the one who tipped the scales and went overboard." POOLE'S APPARENT LACK OF MATURITY The punch had been deemed as the primary reason Golden State had a relatively disappointing 2022-23 campaign that ended with a Western Conference semifinals exit at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers. Multiple outlets have expressed that Green's actions negatively impacted the locker room. Still, "Poole Party" could have shown maturity by finding the resolve to look past the misdeed. Bucher even sort of pinned the blame on the 24-year-old, who might have missed out on his chance to become the dynasty's next face when the time is up for Curry, Klay, and Dray. "I'm not defending at all what he did," Bucher continued about Dray. "But after he did it, Draymond tried everything possible to remedy that situation, and Jordan would have none of it. And I'm just looking at it like, 'Jordan, you have an opportunity to learn and exceed Steph Curry in the Golden State Warriors and a team that has put its eye on the prize of winning championships every chance they can. And you can't get over this situation with Draymond when Draymond's gonna be gone at some point, and this is gonna be yours. You couldn't see the big picture and instead, remain difficult, like made sure that elephant was still in the room.'" "Look, the young guy; there's a part of me that understands. Maybe he wasn't mature enough to get around that. But I look at it as, 'Who did it cost the most?' It cost Jordan Poole the most," Bucher added. NOT MISSING JP'S PLAYOFF DISAPPEARANCE There would probably be no such problem in this campaign for the Dubs after they parted ways with Poole. However, the team will likely miss the 24-year-old's production, as he averaged 20.4 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.6 three-pointers per game in the 2022-23 regular season. Unfortunately, the combo guard couldn't sustain his performance in the 2023 playoffs, seeing his numbers dip to 10.3 points, 3.5 assists, and 1.2 three-pointers per contest. To make matters worse, Poole was incredibly inefficient, converting just 34.1 percent of his shots from the field. In contrast, he posted 17.0 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.3 three-pointers per game on a 50.8 percent shooting clip during the Warriors' title run in the previous playoffs. Fortunately for Golden State, the squad landed a formidable replacement for Poole in Chris Paul. It remains to be seen, though, how CP3's elite playmaking skills will work when alongside Steph, Thompson, and Green. As for JP, he will get a fresh start with the Wizards, where he is sure to have a starring role and won't have veterans to irk with his apparent immaturity and antics.
