MACRA is spearheading the review of the Act following the challenges met during the enforcement of the Act and to align the Act with international standards, including the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrimes and Electronic Evidence (the “Budapest Convention”). Under the review process, the Act shall be split into the following pieces of legislation: Cybercrimes Act, Cybersecurity Act, Electronic Transactions and E-Commerce Act. MACRA has developed the Cybercrimes Bill whose objective is to provide a comprehensive framework for combatting cybercrimes, powers of investigation authorities when handling cybercrimes and international cooperation in dealing with cybercrimes. MACRA is inviting comments from the stakeholders including members of the public, to ensure that the proposed law is rich and reflects the will of the people of Malawi.
