TOUR INSIDE OPRAH WINFREY'S $90M MONTECITO MANSION

CHECK OUT THEIR $90M MANSION!

It's no secret that Oprah Winfrey is a media mogul, but few know that she's also
a real estate tycoon. Of all Oprah's possessions in the U.S., she and her
partner spend most of their time at their $90 million mansion in Montecito.
Let's see what it is about it that they love so much!

1. A SPECTACULAR LOCATION

As one of the wealthiest communities in the U.S., Montecito has unparalleled
views: the Santa Yines Mountains to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the
south. Many millionaires have long coveted properties in Montecito, but Oprah
decided to settle here by accident.

2. A FINE CHANCE

In 2001, just as Oprah was seriously considering buying a house, an invitation
to a private party at a Montecito mansion popped up. The moment she arrived at
the mansion, she was completely charmed by it. She knew that house was her dream
home and meant to be hers.

3. AN IRRESISTIBLE OFFER

The house belonged to the party's host Robert Veloz, an aeronautical equipment
manufacturing giant, and he had no intention of selling it at that time.
However, Oprah loved the house so much that she made a record-breaking offer of
$52 million. No one could say no to such an offer, and of course, Veloz accepted
it. Oprah finally moved into her dream house!

4. AN OVERHAUL PLAN

Once Oprah moved into the mansion, she decided to change it inside out, making
it a symbol of her taste. However, it wasn't easy to completely transform a
23,000-square-foot Georgian-style house into an Oprah Winfrey house, and there
were many tasks to be done.

5. LOOKING FOR A NAME

The first task was to find a good name for her mansion. She wanted to use Tara
II from Gone With The Wind, but apparently, it wasn't grand enough for the
house. Finally, she took inspiration from the Bible and dubbed her beloved house
the "Promised Land," the land God gave Adam in the Old Testament.

6. EXPANDING HER PROPERTY

The next difficult task was to make substantial changes to her dream house. From
14 bedrooms to the rose garden, Oprah spent nearly $30 million on renovations.
With the help of designers Andrew Walker and David Simmons, Oprah was finally
able to move into a house that was exactly her style.

After the renovation, Oprah was happy to show her house to the world. Now let's
start the house tour!

7. COZY FOYER

The foyer may not be as grand as you'd expect, but it's homey enough. The soft
yellow walls and the staircase with smooth lines are in perfect harmony, giving
a sense of peace. Oprah keeps her family photos on antique tables, so she feels
surrounded by loved ones as soon as she enters the house.

8. A LIVING ROOM

If there's one word to describe Oprah's living room, it must be plaid. Plaid
walls, plaid couches, and even pillows cases. These rustic pieces of furniture
may seem inexpensive, but Oprah indeed spent heavily on them. George Smith Couch
and flower-patterned cushions alone cost $3,000 to $4,000.

9. ANOTHER LIVING ROOM

It is not surprising that there is more than one living room in Oprah's house.
Compared to the previous living room, this one is much gentler in design and
color scheme. Coral walls, olive-green sofas, antique mirrors make this place
more classical and dignified. The painting in between the mirrors echoes the one
in the foyer.

10. A GUEST ROOM

Who would've thought that this gorgeous pink room is just a guest room? With
floral curtains and chairs, purple plaid ottomans, and matching bouquets, you
may be convinced it's a French princess room. The biggest surprise is the 2
windows that connect to the outdoor garden, allowing guests to take a stroll
directly from the guest room to the park.

11. THE BATHROOM

Obsessed with baths since childhood, Oprah spent a lot of time looking for the
best tub and finally splurged on a huge circular tub and a spacious shower. By
placing the tub right next to the large window, Oprah can enjoy a hot bath while
appreciating the view of the Santa Yines mountains.

12. THE KITCHEN

Every room in Oprah's mansion has a different style, and the kitchen clearly
takes us to Italy. Wood-colored walls and ivory cooktop and fireplace bring in
some Tuscan elements. Although the stove in the back looks beautiful, Oprah
plans to remove it to make the room more spacious.

13. THE DINING AREA

The dining room, next to the kitchen, is surprisingly small and simply
decorated. The table with 2 unique candelabras can accommodate up to 10 people.
The reason to have such a small dining area is that Oprah wants her guests to
feel at home and feel free to ask for any help.

14. THE READING ROOM

Oprah built a private library in her Montecito mansion out of her passion for
reading. Her books on the built-in bookcase are organized by color, and a doll
on the sofa accompanies Oprah as she reads.

15. THE MASSIVE CLOSET

It must be said that Oprah has an enviable closet. Shoes, shirts, and bags are
color-coded and neatly arranged in oak cabinets. In the warm light, the closet
is like a studio. It might be possible that Oprah spends quite a few hours here
since she even keeps a TV set for entertainment.

Now it is time to step into Oprah's garden. Prepare to be amazed!

16. OPRAH'S ROSE GARDEN

Oprah takes extraordinary care to the layout and planting of her rose garden.
She adorns it with lilies, dahlias, and irises, and reinforces its uniqueness
with arches, cypress trees, and hedges. Oprah calls the garden her sanctuary
because it's where she retreats from the hustle and bustle to find peace.

17. A HALLELUJAH LANE SCULPTURE

In keeping with biblical themes, Oprah named one of the main paths in the garden
Hallelujah Road and placed a Greek statue at its deepest point. In honor of her
grandmother, who raised her, she lines the road with white hydrangeas, just like
those in front of her grandma's.

18. A GROUP OF FOUR STANDING WOMEN

Another eye-catching statue is called A Group of Four Standing Women. Oprah paid
$3.1 million for the statue and placed it under eucalyptus, palm, and pine
trees. The four women represent different stages of life: adolescence,
pregnancy, middle age, and old age.

19. THE TEA HOUSE

What's connected to the garden is a tea house, which was initially used as a
flower-cutting room. Wisteria flowers, complementing the purple roof, wind
around stucco columns and hang from the ceiling. An antique fountain stands
among the roses. With so much artistic design, Oprah's tea house is easily
mistaken for a tourist attraction.

20. INSIDE THE TEA HOUSE

Inside the tea room, there are 4 green wicker chairs and a small wooden table.
Oprah would not bring the phone to the tea room or host business meetings there,
for she only wants to be immersed in nature, reading and meditating.

21. OAK TREES

Oprah must love oak trees, for she has them all over her garden. Twelve oaks in
all thrust their branches into the sky. Oprah called them the Twelve Apostles.
She often finds peace just sitting under these trees.

22. DAYDREAMING

After putting so much effort into the renovation, Oprah truly made the Montecito
mansion her own home. She finds peace of mind and her most comfortable state by
simply being present in the Promised Land!
