We have a comprehensive library of resources that will help you understand eating disorders and spot the signs. YOU ARE NOT ALONE Eating disorders in men are more common than you probably realise. We want you to understand that you’re not alone and help is available for you. WHY MEN? AND WHY EATING DISORDERS? On the evening of Tuesday 29th September 2009, Laurence Francis Nugent, aged just 24 years old, went to bed complaining of chest pain. His family thought the pain was due to muscle strain sustained during his constant vomiting. However, unfortunately they were wrong; Laurence’s eating disorder caused a major heart attack and, sadly, he died in the early hours of the morning. In 2012, Pamela Nugent founded The Laurence Trust to provide a safe and compassionate space for men and their loved ones to find support, so that tragedies like this one can be avoided. ABOUT THE LAURENCE TRUST WHAT WE DO Our primary aim at The Laurence Trust is to reassure men across Northern Ireland that are struggling with eating disorders. We support both those suffering illness, as well as the people that love and care for them. As a bridging organisation, our goal is to get vulnerable men on the right track towards support, medical care, and information to improve their lives and help them recover. MEET THE TEAM The Laurence Trust was created by the family of Laurence Nugent. Since then, we have expanded with the support of passionate volunteers to offer a helpline, online information, and guidance on seeking the best-possible help for eating disorders. Our current team of seven works hard to raise awareness, connect with vulnerable people and support those who desperately need a compassionate ear.
