MISSOURI LABORERS & CONTRACTORS TRAINING CENTER OPEN HOUSE SHOWS THE VARIETY OF
SKILLS TRAINING AND OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE FOR UNION LABORERS

High Hill, MO – The Missouri-Kansas Laborers’ District Council hosted an open
house for construction owners May 19 at the Missouri Laborers & Contractors
Training Center here to show the extensive training it provides to prepare
dependable, skilled and safety conscious union laborers for work in the
construction industry.

The program included not only a chance to see first-hand the extensive training
apprentices receive, but an opportunity to meet with the apprentices to talk
about what they were learning and what first drew them to the union training
program.

Attending the open house were representatives from Ameren, Associated General
Contractors (AGC) of Missouri, BJC Healthcare, Fred M. Luth & Sons, Inc.,
Lambert Airport, McCarthy Building Companies, Metropolitan, St. Louis Sewer
District (MSD), SITE Improvement Association, Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis
County Department of Transportation, St. Louis County Minority and Women-owned
Businesses (M/WBE) Program, St. Louis Development Corporation and the City of
St. Louis, and Washington University.

Sulynn Keomanivane, a U.S. Army veteran, said she was looking for a new
opportunity after leaving the military when her brother-in-law who works in
construction told her there was an opportunity to be found in union labor.

“I took it and it’s been the best opportunity of all,” she said.

ABOUT US
Today, the Labor Tribune is one of the few remaining labor weekly newspapers in
the country. It has a symbiotic relationship with its subscribers: the paper
exists because of their continued and unwavering support and the St.
Louis/Southern Illinois labor movements are considered among the strongest in
America in great part because they have a solid, strong voice that allows their
positions to be heard in the general community.
