THE JOURNEY OF LEARNING BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP

Fima and Natasha Prives entered the hair and beauty industry when they were in
their twenties. Natasha had a love for aesthetics and Fima a passion for hair.
Together they have built their careers around making people feel and look their
best.

They immigrated to Canada from Eastern Europe (Ukraine) and had a vision for
what they wanted to do in the industry. The started their first salon in
Saskatoon and it quickly was acknowledged as  “the salon to work in” by local
stylists.

“One salon, turned into two” recalls Fima “and then Natasha opened her first
school of aesthetics in Saskatoon.” Natasha also developed the curriculum for
the Vaskana Institute in Regina when they added aesthetics to their program. 

“Between three businesses and two kids we were so busy, but we loved working
together and doing the work we are so passionate about.” 

After twelve years of bringing the highest levels of education and beauty care
to Saskatoon, countless classes and competitions, training in Vidal Sassoon and
platform work, Fima and Natasha moved their family and business dreams to
Calgary. 

They opened a beautiful and highly successful salon with twelve employees in
Calgary.  Natasha worked in medical aesthetics as well as in the new salon.  At
this time Natasha also developed a cosmetic line by the name of Vada which was
very popular in the health food industry and sold in many stores across Canada. 

Their passion for beauty continued to grow, but they struggled to find young
people to work in their salons that knew more than how to sweep hair and clean
the salon. This was when they realized how the education system was failing
talented young artists. 

“We could not believe how education was presented in the beauty institutions.
Any one can get in to any school, whether you have talent or not. As long as you
pay, you are in” Fima explained. This system was not providing students with the
skills to hit the floor running.

Fima and Natasha dreamed of building a school that would be different. Focusing
on developing new talent with amazing in house educators, utilizing the advice
and skills of some of the best stylists in North America and using technology to
personally teach the students via Zoom. The program would create graduates who
are ready to hit the floor with both industry specific experience and the
business skills necessary for success. 

After many years of developing this dream, here we are. The dream is a reality
and the name is U5 Academy of Hair and Aesthetic Arts.
