AM I A FEMINIST?

Am I a feminist? A question, I have been asked a million times, just as much as
any other social entity. Questioned by many characters in my life, including
myself, for which I don’t have an answer just yet. Honestly, I don’t know if I
satisfy the criteria to bear the label. I never called myself a feminist, nor
did I explicitly put thoughts into the idea. The reason, I believe I was brought
up rather comfortably, or that my inattentive self subconsciously ignored the
facts. Either way, I am happy to have had a life without the discomfort of
gender inequality.

But now that I am married, I see and hear things much clearly. The society
started to notice me, as a complete feminine. There is an incident that
particularly set me off on another level, on a masculine humanoid hulk level. I
was at a birthday party with my family trying to meet new people. During the
evening my husband introduced me to a just about senior citizen, and this person
ignores everything that’s happening in the world right now and decides to ask me
THE question. The most important question you could ask a married woman, “Can
you cook?”!! He added “if not, make sure you learn it quickly!”. I never felt so
disrespected and personally attacked in my entire life. It was not the question
but the intention; it was not the doubt but the expectation that triggered me. I
was not prepared. I froze in shock for the next 2 hours, feeling so blank and
out of words, and when I got back, I found myself writing this blog.

I agree that this generation is doing much better compared to earlier
generations, but even today we find people who expect a lot from women and a
very little from men. We are better, but we are not ideal. Another day I
overheard an old lady saying, “If you want to work, you have to learn to manage
both your home and your job, it’s your responsibility”. The oral history of
delusions is established solidly.

Women in older generations bared so much more unendurable pain compared to us.
Lack of education and security, gender pay gaps, domestic violence and a lot
more inhuman rituals. Women were silenced and motivated not to speak up. The
masculine community feared the divine power of the feminine to give life and
foresaw a dominant pack which needed to be misguided. Later generations
continued to practice these in the name of rituals, the unwritten-laws. Books
like “Hammer of the Witches” (Malleus Maleficarum) were written documenting how
free-thinking women were a danger to society and the need to execute them, which
led to the murder of thousands of women in early Europe. Feminism started as an
educational, political, social and economic empowerment for women. The older
generations are very grateful for the accomplishments so far.

While nowadays people see feminists as the troublemakers, as the nagging
Instagrammers, as the people who wouldn’t stop complaining. Most of us prefer
finding non-feminist partners to stay away from the muddle. Women who accept it
do not complain, women who reject it do not complain but the women who is caught
in between while trying to change your perspective, complains, the attender must
understand the reason and the panic behind the complaining and not complain
about the complaining. I hope we all believe in feminism one day and we wouldn’t
need a label feminist anymore. I just motivated myself not to be just a feminist
but to be a better person.

BONPE AND BANBANG

Bonpe and Banbang were two little Piglets, living in the deepest and the darkest
forest. They were neither neighbors nor siblings, though they would meet up
every day at the “meeting spot” and go to the Pond, where they would play untill
sunset. They love swimming in the pond after having mud baths, they both loved
playing and wrapping themselves in warm mud all day like any other piglet.

One day Bonpe was at the meeting spot waiting for Banbang, Banbang is always
late. Bonpe always complained but never stopped waiting. They had to get back
home before sunset, Bonpe’s parents were always scared of losing him to the
thick forest and Banbang was 40 pounds of town’s premium bacon to any man who
lays eyes on him. Finally Banbang arrived with big smiles. Both started walking
through their daily route to the pond. Bonpe and Banbang had their own
personalities, one was big the other was small, one doesn’t talk much the other
can’t stop talking, one was nice the other was not very good as being nice, one
was always smiley the other was always moody, bottom line they are nothing alike
except they both love doing crazy shit. Half way through the route, Bonpe
realised something, he said “I am bored going to the same place doing the same
thing every day, let’s take an unknown route today and …..” Banbang said yes
before he could finish the sentence.

They both agreed and diverted their path into the forest which was less than
unknown. After walking for a while they came across a downstream river. They had
to cross the river or go back, they both can swim, but Banbang had wounded his
leg the day before, which he ignored but Bonpe was always aware of it. So they
decided not to swim, but go for a boating to cross the river. They found a big
enough wooden plan and rowed it across the river using a few branches that they
found on the banks of the river. They continued walking into the woods, Banbang
wanted to get a better view so they climbed over a huge shiny smooth rock, it
was a beautiful view which gave them all the excitement they needed. It was then
the adrenaline started kicking and they start playing, bungee jumping from the
the high rocks, rolling over the slant grass lands, kicking and playing, having
too much fun to realise the fact that they are lost. It was soon noon and they
were already tired, they had to eat and lay down for a while. They ate few worms
and roots that they could find and later had a power nap on pillow like grass
under the bright spring sun. A little past noon they finally realised that they
are lost and had no idea about where they are. Banbang was confident that if he
gets a better view he can figure out the way back home.

So they decided to climb a small mountain and get a better view. I was almost
time for sunset. They had to get back home before sunset to not to worry their
family. Banbang’s heart started beating faster as the sun came down , but he
tried his best to not to scare his friend. Finally, they made it to the top of
the mountain; the crazy little pigs not only figured out the way home, but also
had the best ever view of the big forest. After figuring out the fastest way
back home, they finally made it back home safe. It was one of the best days of
their little piggy lives together. They enjoyed each other’s company and the
nature, also irrespective of the circumstances they supported each other all
along the way. They decided not to tell anyone about the day. It was going to be
just another little secret between Bonpe and Banbang.

To every person who stayed irrespective of the day and the circumstances, A
Happy friendship day to you. I am so grateful for having the best set of people
in my life. Special mention to my best friend, who is my biggest support. Once
again a Happy Friendship to you and your Bonpe and Banbang.

A LIFE SENTENCE FOR NOT BEING BORN HUMAN

Childhood memories are precious and will stay with you for a
lifetime. We were very creative and imaginative. From trying a crazy science
experiment to tasting inedible, we have done it all, we enjoyed ourselves and no
one could stop us from being creative. Speaking of being creative more than 60%
of the kids have imaginary friends along with their real ones. I met kids who
see their friend in a pet, some like talking to the stars, some talk to their
stuffed toys, well some creepy ones even talk to ghosts. Most of you had had one
too, and believe it or not, some friends are for life even when they are just
imagination.

Ever heard of a recursive dream? I had one when I was young, I
am taking about sticking random things up your nose kind of young. I used to
dream about an exact same dream again and again or maybe it was just my
imagination, my guess is less that nothing. In the dream I was in a circus with
my dad. If you are imagining my dream, make sure its extra colorful and unreal.
The show was going on, one spiel after another and suddenly I was called on
stage to help the crew perform a trick, it’s when the real star of the show
walked his way to the center of the stage and stood right next to me, he was a
sturdy and healthy Hippopotamus. I was given a Frooti pack with a straw in it,
the trick was that the hippo must drink the juice through the straw, I mean have
you ever seen a hippo’s mouth, a bit over inventive from my side, anyways the
trick ended well. Later I went backstage, I saw animals walking around as free
as human, I clicked pictures, fed them and then just like any other dream it
ends hasty and blunt. I had the same dream multiple times, I believed it kept
away the other bad dreams. Soon I started believing it really happened. If you
know me, you know I still am obsessed with hippos like I can stop and stare for
a while any day no problem, I think they are dope. I can list my favorite
qualities of Hippo, reasons why I like him, but he wouldn’t like being judged.

After a bit of research I found, everybody has a Spiritual
Animal, a Totem Animal and a Power animal. They can all be in one animal or the
opposite, Spiritual animal is an animal spirit guide, Totem is who you are, and
Power animal is whom you can invoke for assistance from within. FYI human is
also an animal in all the above cases. Humans share so many DNA with both plants
and animals, but of course the conscious mind is not aware of it. I wasn’t ready
to label hippo with any of the above, but I believe he is a keeper, I can bet
during the apocalypse a hippo would come and save me.

But I am much older now I don’t remember the dream anymore, I
can only imagine. I wanted to see how a massive, happy and healthy Hippo would
look at a huge circus stage. I opened my browser, typed “Hippo is circus” and I
immediately regret that act. The resulted were ‘Hippos slapped tortured in
circus’, ’Stop violence against animals in circus’, ’Caged and starved animals
in circus’, not what I wanted to remember. I guess animals and not treated well
in the circus, they can’t walk around of course they are caged and chained.
During travel they live is very low standards, they are forced to remain in
their cages in extreme hot and cold temperatures. They are literally innocents
living in life sentence which is as wrong as a murderer or a rapist not being
punished. How I felt watching the results, after reading what you have read so
far you can feel it by yourself.

There is no happy exploitation, there is no happy enslavement, there is no happy
killfloor. Do they really need a voice for a choice to live?

A Life Sentence for not being born human

HOW I FELL IN LOVE WITH HER!

I always believed love has no limits and unconditional love is the purest form
of it. I am naturally curious and love exploring what mother earth gave me cause
why not. Is it too late to realize and appreciate what I have?? Yes!!

The first stop I love being independent and making my own decisions both good
and bad ones. There were times when I used to think staying away from home,
surviving on pocket money in a girls hostel is independence little did I know
what was about to come. Stepping out of university after graduation hits you
different, cause you are completely on your own. Almost all my friends got
placed in the same company and got allocated together, but not me which was
completely my fault that I will regret forever. I stepped into this City of Joy
(Kolkata) pretty much alone, so here goes nothing.

My very first day in Kolkata purged my confidence. End of the day I could feel
my immature world ending, I had the worst headache of my life or should I call
it a panic attack. “It’s just the first day how worst get it get anyways? I can
handle anything” I told myself multiple times. Well, that didn’t work much, I
got sick soon and almost passed out by the end of the week. When you move to any
new city factors that affect you the most are

 * People around you
 * Food
 * Climate
 * Language
 * Routes
 * New Home
 * Your Stress

I took lots of time getting normalized to all the above. I was just about
homeless multiple times, I had to go to police couple of times, I was robbed,
cheated and ill-treated, I got lost many times and reached home at midnight,
most importantly I was dealing with everything pretty much alone.

There is a saying “Home is not where you were born. Home is where all your
attempts to escape cease”, I was lucky enough to find a beautiful home finally
which gave me peace and protection. If you ask me what did I do differently to
feel better? Honestly, I was just taking care of myself and I must mention I
have good company and people who support me. Recently I found myself enjoying
the city and all the other attributes at most which made me write this blog. I
believe Everything that comes in the way makes your journey unique and special.
Kolkata was not easy, but she is beautiful.

Relax just enjoy the moment, don’t stress over things you can’t control. Always
be grateful to what you have.
