WHAT IS CHAINAPI?

ChainAPI is a platform that streamlines blockchain API integrations. Using
ChainAPI’s automated integration process, you can connect almost any API,
whether open or authenticated, to Airnode, a light and serverless node that is
effortless to manage and allows your APIs to be queried by EVM-compatible smart
contracts.

WHY DO I NEED AN ORACLE NODE TO CALL AN API FROM MY ETHEREUM SMART CONTRACT?

To be able to communicate with APIs over the internet, smart contracts need
intermediaries that can operate both on the respective blockchain and the
internet, called oracles. An oracle node is a specific piece of blockchain
middleware that creates a link between the blockchain-based smart contract and
the web-based API, allowing the API to be called by the smart contract.

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THE AIRNODE?

In contrast to many of the more modular types of oracle nodes on the market
today that require constant oversight and active management, the Airnode is
designed to be as light and low-maintenance as possible. As an open source
serverless function, the Airnode can run on any cloud, is extremely quick to
deploy, free to operate, and effortless to manage.

CAN CHAINAPI RUN MY AIRNODE FOR ME?

We do not offer a third-party-hosted version of the Airnode. Setting up an
Airnode is free and extremely simple. Additionally, once the node is
operational, there is no management effort on your part. Self-hosting your
Airnode is preferable, as running your own oracle node prevents your oracle data
being manipulated by any third parties.

WHAT AUTHENTICATION SCHEMES DO YOU SUPPORT?

We currently support basic authentication and apiKey authentication with a
Bearer token.

DOES CHAINAPI SUPPORT BLOCKCHAINS OTHER THAN ETHEREUM?

ChainAPI currently only supports Ethereum. However, we will be rolling out more
blockchain integrations very soon, so keep your eye on our Twitter for updates.
