NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS TO DISASTER RISK FROM CLIMATE CHANGE ARE COST EFFECTIVE,
UMASS AMHERST STUDY CONFIRMS

The global review of 20,000 scientific articles led by Marta Vicarelli,
assistant professor of economics and public policy, also finds that other
benefits of nature-based solutions are “vastly underestimated.”

NEW RESEARCH SUGGESTS FEW PEOPLE GET SICK AFTER BITE FROM TICKS INFECTED WITH
POWASSAN VIRUS

The UMass Amherst scientists, led by Stephen Rich, also estimate for the first
time the number of people in the U.S. bitten by deer ticks each year.

UMASS AMHERST POLITICAL ECONOMY RESEARCH INSTITUTE AWARDED $2.7 MILLION TO
IMPROVE THE ACCURACY AND ACCESSIBILITY OF DATA ON THE U.S. CARE ECONOMY
