FRIENDS OF RAY SCHOOL PTO - CHICAGO, IL - 2019

Ray School students are using our new field and the donated equipment in
physical education classes. Baseball/softball is a totally new addition to our
curriculum since we lacked the space and gear before the grant. We additionally
began offering an after-school softball program, and that team is competing
within the CPS SCORE program, a league organized by the school district. When
the weather is nice, neighborhood kids and parents are using the field on
evenings and weekends. We began a google group to communicate about scheduling
and maintenance. [Chicago Cubs scout] Keronn Walker will use the field for his
B.I.G. Baseball skills development program this coming spring and summer, and we
expect our local baseball league Hyde Park Legends to use the field then as
well...It was so great to see these somewhat otherwise unengaged kids being
active in a safe space and not isolated at home and in front of screens all day,
all thanks to our new field!

(literally!) thanks to the amazing renovation Scotts was able to provide. In

"Thanks to MLB and Scotts, the Boys and Girls Club of Roxbury and the Red Sox
Foundation worked together to provide an increased number of baseball and
softball games to youth in the city among a number of other opportunities that
were available due to the newly renovated softball field...Baseball and softball
were the primary use but the club was able to use the renovated space for youth
to spend more time outside as part of their summer program and their camps.
